Okay, I did NOT expect this little thing to work, but it did and might for you IF you have patience.My Grandfather who was MoAT (Mechanic of All Things) owned back in the day what I thought were REAL chargers, they were so big and heavy they had to be put on wheels and rolled around, they had giant switches that’d illuminate and while I’m probably purely imagining this they were plugged into 220-volt outlets. This thing fits in the palm of my hand, just as pictured, smaller than most mobile phones. “Huh,” I said, “this should be comical.”I hooked it up and, as others have said, figuring this thing out is NOT straight forward, the instruction manual is weak to say the least, the good news is, as I found, there are many intrepid experimenters who, like me, bought it on a whim and did some trial and error which it’d seem 99% of them got the thing to work to their needs, just like me hence, I’m taking the time to write this review. What this lacks in coherent features or instructions it makes up for it in the end by eventually (boy I mean eventually) getting the job done, for that honestly I’m giving it a generous five stars, because it did what I wanted it do against all odds, just like the Phil Collins song. (“Just take a look at my car now, ’cause it’s finally starting here.”)To get the to point, this took TWO WEEKS to charge a completely dead battery in a completely dead system. If it’ll help anyone I own a 2000 Lexus RX300 that is, in fact, drinking age, if I could find a small ute-friendly bar to have a couple with me of which, in terms of trusty old friends, this boring beige over beige has been one of my best now with over 270,000 miles with no reason, per the Lexus dealer, to give up the ghost before 300,000. Toyota quality and then some with only wearables and maintenance needed BTW, the car has only had one issue, eating car batteries every four or so years. Being a cheap bastard and Lexus parts are pricy I’ve chosen battery over a slightly-off generator which brings us to the recent hullabaloo and the need to be the Noco Genius, though it’d prove not straightforward as I hoped.Hooking up the Noco Genius you get a slowly blinking light, like a heartbeat, that will tell you nothing really. Also there’s a force-charge setting where you hold the button (there’s only one button on the whole thing, this thing is basic) it supposedly will force a charge into a battery… this doesn’t work, at all. After some digging it supposedly only does this if a battery is below some arbitrary limit which, my battery was completely dead, kaput, nada, force charge only made the 6V light go on which, apparently, is what others experienced. Point being, don’t hold you breathe.I kept trying to charge the battery but it didn’t budge, didn’t budge, didn’t budge, then I had a thought and said to myself “self, what if I unhook the battery, THEN charge it?” As in, is it because it’s also hooked to my car hence current is going other places? Mind you, this thing is only one (1) amp, that’s very little, if you’re looking for a quick charger or something to charge and jump your car, this ain’t it, have you seen the size of this thing? Ha no, no, but it will trickle, very slowly, a charge into your battery… if it’s not hooked to the car.Listen, some people this may work when the battery is not hooked up and, in fact, I hooked my battery back up AFTER this thing actually worked and then hooked up the Noco to it and it did, in fact, go from red blinking to green, sooo, yeah, that happened. But I’m burying the lede here:The Noco charger worked for me but ONLY after it was hooked to the battery without being connected to the car. Total time to charge the battery not hooked to the car? About 36 hours. Great? Eh, there’s a pandemic, I’m not really going out much so had time on my hands, not to mention my wife’s car.In summation, IF you have even a completely dead battery or run down battery and IF you don’t have to go anywhere in the next two days and IF you’re comfortable unhooking the leads from your car to your battery so that it’ll only be charging the battery itself this Noco Genius is, er, uh, genius! It really works! It works and for the cheap cheap cheap money its worth every penny. If this thing cost even 50% more I’d be taking down stars but this thing cost less than a steak dinner (back when I ate steak) so suffice to say it got my battery charged all the way up, hooked up to my car and after the computer was all “what the… ??? Was I in a coma” my car fired right up and ran, I even drove it around a bit.This would be a good thing to own for just-in-case as its just in case money. If you have any situation close to mine, get this trickle charger, if you need the big guns, well, open up your wallet and say ah. Luckily most of us, probably 99% of us, if your battery is run down, this will do the trick.Best of luck!
Compact small size, but the presence of completely enclosed loops on the charger’s charging cable attachment points make it necessary to completely remove the nuts on your battery cables to attach the completely enclosed circular loops. I am not sure if that additional contact surface is necessary for the efficiency of the trickle charging process or not. If the loops were somewhat open ended with gaps in the prongs instead of a completely enclosed circle, you would NOT have to COMPLETELY remove the car’s battery cable clamp nuts to put the trickle charger’s charging cables in place. You could just loosen the nuts a bit and push the loops into place and tighten them back up quickly. If your battery has those separate negative and positive attachment screws with just a wingnut on them, this device will be easier to install. I used this on a car with 10mm hex nuts and it was a greasy affair (even though the car battery is only a year old). Trying to initially loosen the nuts was not easy with a box wrench, then using a rachet to completely remove the nuts was difficult due to the tight spaces (no slack in the short battery cables in the car). Trying not to lose the nuts by having them pop off the car’s cable bracket clamps and drop down into the engine compartment to be lost forever was another issue. I am considering getting tin snips to cut an opening into the charging cable loops to reduce the time involved in installation and removal. The problem is that I have three cars and the diameter of the bolts in the battery clamps are all slightly different, so I don’t want to cut a third or half of the loop off and possibly reduce charging times due a to a loss of contact area between the trickle charger charging cable discs and the car battery clamp assembly. The trickle charger has an inline fuse in the red cable. There is also a small plate with two holes in it, a velcro strip and two self tapping screws to mount the charger to the engine compartment, but the small size and weight of the charger made it possible to just balance/lay it on the top edge of the radiator while still closing the hood completely.
1st. Why did I buy this? I like NOCO, I have other devices that have never failed me. Even had a neighbor borrow my Boost and hook it up backwards and saved him from damaging his Battery and PDC/Fuses. – that was my bad assuming someone knew how 12v systems and polarity worked. Don’t roll your eyes, I have seen more tow companies fry a Vehicle by hooking up a jump box or jumper cables wrong than you can ever imagine.2nd. I have a 2017 VW Passat R-Line that sits because I WAH and the wife does most of the shopping and driving in her 23 Atlas R-Line. *I do not have a IOD out of spec, the vehicle just sits in the driveway or garage for weeks*. The Vehicle will naturally have a draw. You have a Radio, Security System, TPMS, RFH, and other Modules waking up and pinging the CAN-Bus. You also have newer Vehicles that can connect to WiFi and perform OTAs for software and firmware.- Simple to install and operate, 0 complaints on design and functionality. *I did not screw or drill for the bracket, I opted for a zip-tie install to not lessen the value and appearance of the Engine Bay*. I did a clean install, routing wiring and connections properly and out of sight as best as possible. Keeping in mind that water and atmospheric ingress will happen in an Engine Bay.3rd. I read the Reviews and read the Picture Captions. What a joke. You put a 90 degree bend in a cord and jammed the device in your Engine Bay, wedged between the battery and fender and you complain of a cable cracking?! Cables don’t like 90 degree bends! Next you shut the Hood on the power cable and it got severed? Really? Didn’t see that happening! Next, oh you hooked the device up in opposition of polarity, forced the device to power on and override safety warning. Didn’t see that letting the smoke out of the unit? In my sole opinion I would read the other reviews carefully and look at the pictures before believing the hype of negativity. Most of it is self inflicted by bad DIY. If you need help, ask a automotive professional or someone with LV, 12v experience. Don’t half do the install, don’t expose the unit to elements ingress that could be avoided if you took 2 more mins to think things through and do them right. Last enjoy the purchase!
Having tackled bigger old fashioned 12 volt lead acid plug in battery chargers this was a pleasant suprise. It pumps 800 mAmps which it is calling a trickle but that will top off a brand new lead acid battery fairly quickly: about 4 hours. Which is something you want to do as brief trips in the car won’t do it. If you have ever left your lights on, or drained your battery with an open door, or you leave on a trip or you just don’t drive you car long or often enough, you want to have one of these. A lower rate of charge for a longer time is excellent and safe for lead acid while it is in the car. If you can’t reach your car with an extension cord you might want to set up a solar panel with a charge controller for the same needs, otherwise this is cheaper, smaller, works well and lets you know when your battery is topped off. A must have for most folks with lead acid battery cars. As for desulfating, that is merely a matter of leaving the battery connected to this charger for days or weeks, but it will work if the battery is not too old and corroded.
We own a Class A RV that has a battery bank of four 6V batteries (to power the coach systems) and two 12V batteries for driving. Somewhere in this RV is a vampire. We either have a rodent damaged wiring system that is completely draining the batteries, or one of the appliances is miss wired and zapping the batteries. While parked and ALL power is cut off (several switches and shut off knobs) we still walk out to do maintenance and find a dead RV.We were not looking forward to shelling out another $1200 (at least) for batteries, so we took a chance and bought this. Our batteries are all deep cell and much larger capacity (220 AH) than what the charger states it is able to recharge… but after several nights on the charger, all 4 of the of the deep cycle marine AGM batteries are showing as good to use.In addition, this charger was able to recharge our 2 large vehicle batteries for a F350, several lawn mower batteries and our daughter’s power wheel battery. This is such a great charger. Extremely happy with this purchase.
I had a battery maintainer on a self starting emergency generator. It only showed if the battery had a charge. I bought this unit because it would show more about the condition of the battery. I purchased this because the last 3 times I left the country for 2 weeks, my battery was dead when I returned. This time I decided that shouldn’t happen again. I did a lot of research and decided to purchase the Noco Genius 5 smart charger. The setup is simple. I attached the clamps to my 12 volt car battery, plugged in the charger, an clicked on the 12V setting, and that was it. When I returned 16 days later my car battery was fully charged. This works great to charge your vehicle battery and maintain its charge even long term. I have used one of these for my motorcycle for a few years, and it always starts right up again, even after sitting unused all winter season. I recently got a couple more to keep the batteries in my WaveRunner (jet skis) at peak performance. It charges the 12-volt batteries reasonably fast, and monitors them to keep them charged. The kit includes large spring-clips to connect to any battery temporarily, and also has connectors that can be hard-connected to the battery terminals; then just attach the connector to the cable from the charger and you’re all set. When you want to use your vehicle, just disconnect the cable and put the included dust cover over the connection point so that it doesn’t short out. It can also be used on 6-volt batteries; just slide the switch to that setting.
I’m a greenhorn at car-care, but this product was pretty much foolproof! I’m using it to keep the battery topped off for my family member’s car, as she has just had surgery and won’t be driving for 2 months. I do not need it for months and months of storage and maintenance, so the 2018-era reviews complaining about “now it only lasts for one year” after the manufacturer’s move to China, really don’t matter to me!I really appreciate the built-in safety feature of no sparking if you touch the clips together. Current won’t flow through this product, even when connected to the outlet, until it senses 3 volts. This could make it hard to charge a TOTALLY dead battery with this product, but it worked perfectly for us.To put this thing together, you’ll have to pick either small-ring connectors – which are for the non-car uses that will sit for over 6 months, like an ATV or motorcycle or boat – or the alligator clips, which are for cars and bigger engines that will be connected for just a few months. You’ll also have to have color vision to discern between red and black, since the alligator clips confusingly have a (+) symbol on one side of their jaws. On the second jaw, they differ (+) and (-), so if you can’t tell them apart at first glanceThe most difficult part for me was step 6e/f in the instruction manual – determine if your car engine has negative-ground or positive-ground status. Like I said, I’m a greenhorn here. Sure, the manual says “most cars” are negative-grounded, but I didn’t want to mess it up, cuz car batteries are big hefty things you don’t play around with. After real careful inspection, I found that the battery of our car had a wire going directly onto and behind the hefty metal of the vehicle body or “chassis” I learned it is called, which came from the (-) side of the battery. The (+) side had a complicated plastic cover over it, which made connecting the alligator clip a bit difficult, and that side’s wire led to other engine parts. That’s what made me 90% sure that the negative side was the “grounded” side. So I connected the (-) black clip to the (-) side of the battery, and the red clip to a nut-and-bolt part of the engine. I was able to close the hood on the car most of the way by turning the clips sideways and flat as I could. It’s not latched at the moment, but sitting in our garage, it should be plenty protected from spiderwebs and dust and whatnot. No option in our case to thread the cable thru the front grille since it’s pretty jam-packed with engine parts right behind it.My one complaint about this product is that the cable ending in the two alligator clips splits pretty close to the jaws end, and it would help to have it split further up, to help users reach a part of their engine block or chassis more easily. Also, I highly recommend addition of diagrams. There are words saying “connect wire to engine block or vehicle chassis, not sheet metal or fluid lines” but some of us need an illustration of what is a sheet-metal body part vs the vehicle chassis!Once connected to the engine, I turned my back on it just in case, to plug in the “wall wart” (credit to Mythbuster Adam Savage for that term) and the light turned steady red! This was encouraging, since when I had tested it earlier by plugging it into the wall with no connections made, it blinked red. So I was confident I did not have a defective wall wart box.6 hours later, the light had turned blinking green, and 6 hours after that, it had turned steady green, which the manual says is the perfect state to leave it in for ‘drip feed’ of electricity to keep the battery operable while not in use. So I am perfectly satisfied!Our car’s battery was diagnosed by a mechanic as “being on its last legs” anyway, so this comparatively cheap product, for 2 months of use only, is perfect for our needs. I’d recommend anyone with a really expensive car or battery that needs storage for 6 months or more do a bit more research and spend a bit more on it.
I bought this to put on the battery of our hobby car for the winter. It is doing a very good job maintaining the battery. It also has indicator lights letting you know what the status of the battery plugged in is. I have been using this for a couple years. And am very satisfied
I liked the fact that it does a great job at recharging a battery. It will recharge a drained battery and it will also “desulphate” (I believe that’s what it’s called. I’ve used it to recharge a 12V AGM battery and it did a great job. Unfortunately the battery was too far gone, it took the charge well (fully charged) but it does not hold the charge for long. The car is not driven much at all, and batteries will get drained by many electrical components on board that “work behind the scenes” like an on board computer.I only wish that it had the ” power supply” option which comes in handy when using to replace a dead battery.Unfortunately the manufacturer of the battery on my car does recommend a slow charger up to 5A.The NOCO 10 has the “power supply” option, unfotunately it’s 10A.
My local motorcycle shop recommended this charger to maintain my bike battery over winter. I’ve also seen it recommended elsewhere so picked one up on Amazon. It comes with battery leads and alligator clamps. The cable from the charger is a pretty good length (though I didn’t measure; maybe 6 feet). I like that both sides of the charger have an indicator light key sticker so that you don’t need the manual to figure out what the light sequence/colors mean. Super helpful. It’s also easy to switch between lead-acid or lithium battery types. Very happy with it so far – will follow-up after winter when I see how well it actually maintained my battery.
I had the Genius 2 and it’s an excellent product. Only con is it takes up to half a day to fully recharge a battery. In comes the Genius 5 and it cut the recharge time in half. It is an excellent value. I now use the Genius 2 to trickle charge my lawn tractor and keep the Genius 5 for larger needs such as maintaining our vehicle batteries. The unit barely feels warm in full charge mode, it super portable and takes up almost no space and the adapters to enable quick connect are inexpensive, I’ve bought several to allow for quick setup. I highly recommend this charger, get you one.
Boxed up nice and sets up easily. No issues so far on charging batteries. Nice robust cabling that has quick connects. Great that I can recharge or trickle charge four at once. Would take me days of walking and moving my single charger I had. Instruction book was interesting. Wow, a nice big fat one…must have lots of good info in here. Huh…several pages only and the rest is the most ever foreign translations I have seen compiled!
Winterizing consolidates batteries inside for me. Lawn mowers, ATV’s, boats, cycles, etc. The NOCO Genius2x4 was my preferred choice for tending multiple batteries without multiple tenders. I’ve used 3 other brands in the past and the convenience with this unit is superior. I love the LED displays for each bank as opposed to a simple blinking light. The NOCO is fuller function and can be used on more types of batteries than the others. Connectors and alligator clips are larger than others’ and actually more appropriate than some of the smaller ones that can slip off or be difficult to find purchase. The 2a option should create less off-gassing and be safer indoors but higher amp charger/tenders are available if speed is your need.
Charges at 1A until full charge, then 10mA intermittently to keep battery topped off.
Recommended by a friend that has these on 10-12 classics in his collection. Great productand does it’s job when vehicle stores and notused for awhile. The battery lead needs to belonger, nowhere to “Exit” it under the tray, orout the fender. 5 stars if that had been longer.
I bought 4 a couple of years ago to keep my motorcycle batteries charged over the winter and just bought 2 to replace the ones I misplaced over the summer.

I liked that the installation was easy for my motorhome. Two included self-tapping screws make it easy to anchor with just hand tools. Once it was installed, it immediately got to work. What I didn’t like was that, when I went to disconnect it, the thing was flashing a red light. I’m thinking “now what the heck does that mean?” I had no idea and I didn’t remember just where I put the instructions two months prior at this point to find out. Nevertheless, I went to start the coach and it fired right up, just like it had a new or fully charged battery. Relief. I guess my only complaint is that there’s no explanation for the light codes on the face of the unit. By the way, I have four others of this brand (different models) for the various vehicles that I own and all have performed well.
First off I did have a little trouble with the instructions as they are microscopic. I am not kidding. Had to take a pic with my phone and then zoom in to read the manual to make sure how to use the thing. Other than that it is very self explanatory.It charged my completely dead battery in just about 4 hours. This would NOT be ideal for cars with huge cranking amps. I assume it would take a day or longer to charge that size of battery. Go for the Genius 5 or 10 for that and you’ll be fine. It’s super compact, automatically registers and charges most types of batteries, and even claims to repair your battery. I have no idea what that is about so I cant make any claims there.I would buy it again. I will be using it all winter. It is also a battery maintainer and goes into a maintenance mode once your battery is fully charged. It will not damage your battery but stops it from draining in the cold or if you don’t ride for a while.5 stars even with the tiny instruction booklet. They could have put a VR code on the book with a link to a digital version. That would have been perfect.
I needed a motorcycle battery charger. I bought this, it worked great. I then ran over it and bought another. Three year warranty shows maker is trying to build consumer l, yal and confidence it product.I wish them luck because if they succeed I benefit and have a go to product for my many 12 volt batteries.It seems like I go through at least one charger a year since USA made was replaced by chinese people made.New one maintained battery through the cold of winter.it got fried somehow. I sent it back. 60 or so days later I got my repalcement.convenientwhat I like is that it scrolls through the charge modes easily, has a and desulficating mode, and two detachable connectors to the battery terminals. I have one attached to my motorcycle battery. I can unplug charger from my motorcycle attach the alligator clips to my boat battery. it then will desulficate that battery and top it off.
I bought this without reading the full description. It will not charge a dead car battery. My battery on my car was dead it measured 2V on my volt meter. This charger would not charge it and blinked red no matter what I did. I went to the discount tool store near my house and bought a cheap float charger and it charged my battery over night then plugged this in and it showed solid red meaning it was charging. It seems to be maintaining the charge which is what it’s intended to do. It works fine but if you need to charge a dead car battery there’s a different model for that.
Best ONES I HAVE EVER USED. Been using these for 5-7 yrs now. We put them on all our collector vehicles that do not get driven much, and a large semi truck with 4 big batteries. Have kept the batteries slow charged, and save us hundreds and hundreds of dollars, as we do not need to replace these expensive batteries in our vehicles every 3-4-5 yrs.HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE IF YOU WANT TO SAVE YOUR BATTERIES. I was nervous about getting this as labeled junior. My prior wasn’t junior. My prior charger, (10+ years old) quit staying green in cold weather. At 30 degrees and less, it would go from solid green to flashing green to red and green flash. Wasn’t sure if defective car or charger. Battery only 1 year old when charger behavior began. Hitting second winter for this behavior, so gave the junior a try. Very pleased to see it stay green so as to milk some more time out of my ancient car. It has just been 2 weeks, hope not jinx it. My car spends about 325 days plugged in a year. Crazy, but it is there when I need it, thanks to the charger.
