  1. Well, I’ve had my machine for a good long time now- and at first stopped using it after just a few uses due to the debris shower than many others have mentioned. It was bad. Really, really, really bad. But after reading the manual and the reviews, I finally purchased the larger guard, which has been changed to part # N512929 (which is different than the part number referenced in the manual). Three thumbs down to dewalt on this (for many reasons)- #1, it should come stock with the *real* guard. #2, I contacted dewalt and they told me “that part is no longer available and there is not a larger guard you can buy for this”. Well, needless to say, they were wrong. After reading a review here I ended up finding the larger (i.e. properly sized) guard. It *did* take me two months to get it- I placed simultaneous order with dewalt AND partswarehouse dot com. The latter arrived after two months- not shockingly, the dewalt order is in limbo. I emailed them to cancel the order, and they said I would need to call the service center by phone. What kind of disorganized operation is this?? I emailed the thru the same channel I used to place the order!!!Anyway, on to the operation. While replacing the guard, based on advice in this review section, I also replaced the head with the Husqvarna 53738810, because even in my brief prior usage, I had a few occasions where the string broke off inside the the head and I had to open it up to retrieve one of the ends before continuing. Very annoying. So I just went out and whacked, and it worked GREAT- for the string trimmer portion, I kept it on low power. No grass shower! And the string stayed exposed the entire time!! Nice quick, clean (except for my legs and feet, but there’s nothing that can be done there) experience. And THEN…the coo day gra!! (sic). Again based on reviews here, I picked up a Weed Warrior Brush Cutter (Part Number 16246B). Like the Husqvarna string head, this thing popped on very easily once I determined the proper nut (it’s #2 in their package) and popped in a 9AH flexvolt battery, turned the speed to “hi”, and set off on a large section of overgrown path that I’ve been avoiding for a long time now. And let me tell you, the combination of the 60V motor and the FF brush head was impressive!! I cut everything in the path- from run-of-the-mill weeds to sumac about 1 to 1-1/2″ inch in diameter. And the think did great! Some of the larger, greener sprouts took a couple seconds of gnawing away, but mostly everything cut clean on the first pass. And I just kept going, and going, and going. What I thought was going to be a two hour job took me about 30 minutes with this combo!! And I ended up doing some other places that were not even on my radar for today- but the battery still had juice, so I kept going!! In fact, the battery sort of outlasted me!! Maybe I’ll try a shoulder strap- that may reduce fatigue a bit, but this thing is pretty well balanced- and most fatigue was in my trigger and (OA FTL 🙁 ). It was sort of a blind experiment for me, but I was blown away with how well this performed with a brush cutter. So, to recap:1- Get the bigger guard! In fact, if you haven’t bought the trimmer yet and don’t need one immediately, I’d wait until I had the guard in-hand before ordering the trimmer.2- (Optional)- replace the head with the husky head listed if you hate stopping to re-thread string3- (Optional, depending on your needs)- get a brush cutter head! I assure you this motor can handle it!4- Biggest drawback: the head doesn’t pivot like my old trimmer, so edging is difficult and mistake prone- If you get just a little too close at the wrong angle, you’ll gouge the soil where you hadn’t intended to cut.5- Dewalt support is awful. Do research within these and other reviews and Q&A’s if you want correct answers.DISCLAIMER: I’m a big Flexvolt user- I’ve probably got 25 tools of both the 20V and 60V flavor, and about 11 batteries (mainly because, as before, Dewalt Hates Their Customers, and often you can’t get a bare tool without a battery for about 6-12 months after the tool’s initial release). So this tool was in my sweet spot, and it took some tweaking to get it perfect, but in the end this is an incredible alternative/upgrade to gas powered machines.

  2. The media could not be loaded.  Let’s start with the items I think stand out:1. One of the key features for me is storage. I’m a recreational cyclist so my garage is full of bikes leaving little room for lawn equipment. The Greenworks equipment stores vertically against the wall in a area of the garage not normally occupied leaving the area where I keep my road bikes free while not interfering with vehicle parking. This also may be appealing to those that like me have a standard garage but full size trucks, SUV to fit inside.2. As this equipment has no gasoline in it, you are able to transport it inside your vehicle without the danger of exposure to explosive and toxic fumes. This combined with the mowers already compact size mean you have many options for transportation.3. Of all 3 items only the trimmer requires servicing to replace the trimmer string and in this way it is exactly the same as gas powered unit and the trimmer string is a generic standard string I purchased at Wal*Mart.4. I use the second battery for the mower to power the trimmer. I could and sometimes do use the lower amp/hour battery that came with the combo and do when the yard is particularly thick or tall.5. The trimmer operates like a traditional gas unit and dispenses additional string each time the trimmer is activated by the user.6. All 3 devices have safe start buttons to insure deliberate activation and reduce the possibility of accidental activation of the device.7. Speaking of reduced, another key plus in my book is the substantially quieter operation. The mower is not much louder than a household vacuum cleaner. Allowing me to mow much earlier in the day while it’s cooler without disturbing my neighbors.8. The mower make a reasonably effective cut but does require 2 passes to accomplish this. I think this may be a limitation of the blade speed. The mower does increase RMP when it hits a certain resistance threshold. The higher speed will help you get through a more dense patch of lawn and will maintain that speed until the resistance drops below the threshold.9. I bag my clippings but attachments were included with the mower that would allow for either ejecting the clippings out of the side or mulching. My front yard is a mixture of fescue, and buffalo grass and grows quite densely and the mower does have to work to cut this area. The sides and back are mostly buffalo and are fertilized but not watered10. The combination of all areas including the ally is 2,600 sf. and used to require approximately a 1 gallon of gasoline a month to maintain with a gas powered edger and mower, and fuel oil mixture for the string trimmer and blower and the inconvenience annually of servicing the motor oil and spark plugs. Comparatively it cost pennies a month to charge the batteries with a substantially reduced mechanical footprint and no physical exposure to fuel or oil. Additionally fumes escaping from gas equipment and containers no longer contaminate the living environment of the house through the garage.11. Now lets consider durability. I have been using this group of Greenworks equipment for over 1 year now with the same batteries that came originally with the equipment. I have experienced no failures or defects. After 2 mowing seasons the battery life has met my expectations of reliability. This was the most important aspect to me because if the batteries died prematurely it would completely negate any operational cost savings.12. Aesthetically the mower has been style to have to outward appearance of a traditional gas mower and while this may not be of particular importance to me personally, some may feel that it is a selling point.13. Now let’s talk initial cost. In 2006 I bought a full set of Yardman gas equipment totaling $1,300 and it would cost even more to buy that equipment today. The Greenworks equipment totaled $550 making its up front cost a considerable value if reliable.14. Care for this equipment is not totally without effort. Once a month I routinely wash out the bottom of the mowing deck to insure clippings flow effectively to the bag. The lack of heat from a combustion engine seems to preserve the painted finish allowing the deck to be completely cleaned to a almost new state and I have not seen any indication of chipping or rust.15. Despite regular use the cutting blade has remained sharp and has not required sharpening.16. The blower works every bit as effectively as a gas powered blower but is perhaps the loudest of the 3 pieces of equipment.I have always been able to mow my entire yard on a single charge of all 3 batteries but a yard larger than maybe 3,200 sf. would likely require additional batteries which can be purchased separately at a cost of $119.99 each.In conclusion for my size and type of yard, the Greenworks equipment has been a very good solution for my lawn care, and I highly recommend this gear.Who wouldn’t I recommend this gear for? I wouldn’t recommend this for someone who has a lot if tall brush or rough cut obstacles that have to be routinely traversed. This is not a heavy or brush cut solution.

  3. TLDR: This review is for both the Redback cordless mower and Redback Weed Eater/Cordless Trimmer. Redback asked me to not give a negative product review, and in exchange would send me free products. Both lawn mower and weed eater were defective and the weed eater was a major safety hazard.Item arrived. Followed the minimal instructions on the manual. Item never worked. Redback has no phone numbers, contact etc on their site when Googled it. I used the listed “contact us” option and my email was returned “undeliverable.” After several days of this Amazon made it right. Amazon refunded my money & apologized that one of their sellers, Redback, was so difficult to contact about a defective item. Amazon even made it so UPS would come pick the item up via me having to lug a giant box off to UPS to return. After Amazon made it right. Rachel from Redback sent an email. The email was to set up a phone call time to troubleshoot the item. By this time the item was already gone and refunded. Now that was just for the lawnmower. I additionally purchased the cordless weed eater and leaf blower. I liked that all 3 units were more compact, light weight , & ran on the same battery. Redback cordless weed eater was easy to assemble and I followed the manual instructions. Upon first use, I was about 10 min into use, the battery self ejected from the top of the weed eater. Thinking I didn’t fully “click” it in, I re inserted the battery. Began using for the other side of my yard. This is the stringless option and uses small blue “blades”. This was a feature that appealed to me. A few minutes in, one of the blades flew off of the unit. It had melted at the base that holds it onto the unit, melted and flew off. Being a bit more annoyed, replaced with a new blade. Now we were good to go and keep edging my yard…But wait, there is more. A collective 15-ish min into total use, the weed eater FELL APART. The bottom 1/3 of the unit detached from the top where I was holding the handles. This now became a HUGE safety issue! There was no fail safe to auto stop the now free swinging power head with 2 blades attached to immediately stop. I immediately took my hand off the trigger and the unit continued to freely swing like a mid evil torture device for another 5-7 seconds. This could have been worse. No one was actually injured, but easily could have been a bad situation needing medical attention quickly. So next, I went back to the email from Rachel @ Redback and updated that yet another product was defective. Next call was to Amazon customer service. They could see the issue with the lawn mower from the same company. I send them a video I took (safely) to show how the product came apart, while in use, thru no user error, & didn’t immediately stop running. Amazon refunded my money. They also asked me to dispose of the product as sending back would be useless since the item is a safety hazard. At that point I was satisfied.Until…. A call from the seller came in last night. (Amazon had already made it right and my money returned) Redback called and first apologized. Asked how to make it right. Told them Amazon has fixed the situation & money returned. At this point the Redback rep began to almost accuse me of not knowing how to use a weed eater. The Redback rep began to question if I was using the item improperly. I informed the Redback rep that I am a gardener & have years of experience using lawn & garden equipment. When I told him there was nothing more I desired that’s when the conversation shifts. The Redback rep asked if they could SEND ME FREE PRODUCTS AS LONG AS I DONT WRITE A NEGATIVE REVIEW!?! Are you kidding me? The call came in at 8:04 on a Monday night, from a “scam likely”phone number with an LA area code. The call was 12 minutes. The gentleman asked me to email him at:Info.swift garden.com with my address so they could send free product.I was so angry that is what he flat out was asking me to do. I read through (sometimes) hundreds of reviews on products I am interested in. I called Amazon customer service and let them know the information and that one of their sellers is asking to give false reviews in exchange for “free products.” Amazon was very interested in the information & noted they are looking into the situation. Will NOT buy from them again.

  4. This product is great for trimming hedges, if you think your going to chop down large thick sections then look for a commercial grade gas trimmer, these are for maintaining and trimming not heavy duty cutting. Battery lasts 45 mins on average and only thing i don’t like the button for adjusting the trimmer head it can be stuff to adjust at times otherwise so glad I’m done with the extension cord!!!

  5. cuts stuff down, does it well. Doesn’t cut things bigger than the distance between forks, but that would make it a miracle product. Its not a miracle product, but it beats scissors or chain saws for stuff in its range. Best if you have other compatible tools for the battery, else you will spend too much probably, but hey, you’re rich right.. just go ahead then..

  6. I bought this set specifically because I do a great deal of gardening with another person and we were always having to share tools. This has 2 spades, one for digging and one for bulb planting with measurements marked on the blade. They both are great. There are 2 rakes one bent for help digging and one straight, both are great and one weed puller. My only complaint is that the plastic where you can hang the tool up, sticks out and is uncomfortable at times. It does feel like it might cut your skin, but I have not been cut and have been using the set a lot.

  7. Pros: the blower is extremely lightweight. Powerful enough to clean the drive and the grass clippings. Trimmer folding in half for storage is a HUGE bonusCons: battery life is short as expectedTrimmer is a little heavy and could use a strap.

I had my mind set on a different type of Weedwhacker with a blade instead of a miserable string. This machine was made correctly and does the job overall. The only thing I don’t like is that I’m worried that it won’t cut through stuff and I do have to go back over some areas. And also I will have to purchase other packs of plastic blades in the future.

  9. I like the trimmer itself but only one of the 2 batteries worked so I can only use it for around 20-25 minutes and have to wait several hours for that battery to charge. I specifically ordered the one with 2 batteries so I could finish my yard in one go but now it takes several times.

  10. I used my trimmer today for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. For a light weight, inexpensive model it worked pretty well. I wouldn’t recommend it for use on a farm or large country lot, but for a small lot without a tall grass or weeds it’s fine. The adjustable trim head and handles are helpful, the edger works good. I sure won’t miss dragging a long extension cord all over the place, and especially over and around my fence. I can’t comment on battery life yet, but I used it for at least 1/2 hour and it’s still going strong.

  11. Everything works fine except I don’t like the automatic string feed that happens when you let go of the switch. I went through all four spools till I figured out that I was going to have to keep the tool on the whole time if I didn’t want to waste string! I liked my old tap-the-base-to-advance-the-string technology.

  12. The features on this tool are awesome. Smart spool and two speeds makes for easier trimming. The blower has plenty of power for blowing large piles of grass. I would recommend this tool to anyone because the batteries are interchangeable.

  13. I had to go online and download assembly instructions because the ones that came with the unit were not clear at all. Once I got it together, I was happy with everything else. Great trimmer for the price.

  14. Great trimmer worked on bigger hedge with plenty of power

  15. Product is good works great however there’s no phone number or part numbers to replace blades

  16. My husband made fun of me for this purchase. But WOW, this little trimmer is awesome. I used it all over the yard, even on the blackberries. Did a wonderful job. Its so light and easy to use, much better than our huge gas powered one. Great value for a great product.

  17. Light weight easy to use

  18. I got this package for near $100 during Amazon Prime days, but I feel my review also stands if I had paid $135.Everything worked as advertised out of the box. Battery seems to charge quickly to me and I have gotten a full charge in what feels like only an hour or so.The most impressive thing about this package so far has been the string trimmer string – this stuff is heavy duty! I’ve cut patches of small woody weeds with this no problem and the first spool of string has lasted me a full half a summer, including some initial clearing out of overgrown areas. I can usually string trim my entire 3/4 acre yard on one charge of the battery. The blower is less impressive, but works for what I need it to do. It is not tremendously powerful, and would have trouble with wet leaves or heavier detritus. However, I am able to blow off my entire 200 feet of driveway, including large parking area at the top, with one charge of the battery. It has also been great for steps around the house, the porch, patio area, etc.All in all I’ve been very pleased with this purchase.

  19. This weed wacker is very strong, the next step would be a brushwacker with a blade. The good: — enough power to cut down weeds up to waist high if the weeds are not too woody. — has variable control so that light weeds can be trimmed easily and effectively. This trimmer can trim from light flimsy weeds all the way to dense almost brush weeds.Cons: — the DeWalt string head is useless and jams way too often. After one use I replaced the DeWalt string head with Husqvarna T35 537388101 (indeed, I bought 3 of them eventually to have prewound spools when the line runs out in the middle of wacking). The T35 Husqvarna just goes and goes and goes without problems. — the weight is a little high for some folks, there is no shoulder strap.I am happy with the DeWalt trimmer line and have only used the DeWalt line except for the initial Husqvarna line. The DeWalt trimmer line does not jam in the T35 even when randomly hand wound. This is important, carefully winding line is such a waste of time and some trimmers seem to only work well with well wound line.I get about 45 minutes from a 9AH FlexVolt battery with perhaps 50-80% of the time actually wacking heavy weeds, averaging knee high. After two of these batteries are depleted, the unit weight is fatiguing, the wacker plus 9AH battery is fairly heavy albeit well balanced.I tried the suggested alternate DeWalt guard to reduce getting covered with bits of weeds, and I was disappointed– this alternate guard might be OK for a suburban yard with sidewalks, but the guard just gets in the way with heavy weeds– and if you only have light weeds, well, you don’t need this weed wacker. Switched back to the original shield and wear long sleeves, chainsaw chaps, and mask due to poison ivy. With the original guard one is guaranteed to be covered in bits of weeds, from head to toe particularly the lower legs. Regardless, the original DeWalt guard works very well in heavy vegetation.Use: 12 acre pocket farm, this trimmer plus a Stihl gas brushwacker, the latter for the heavy woody bushes. If those are not sufficient, there is the DeWalt battery chainsaw followed by a Stihl gas chainsaw.

  20. Nice product for the money

  21. Made short work of the Barberry bushes and Bush honeysuckle I used it on.. easy to use, easy to wield.

  22. delivery was delayed thanks to FedEx, had to prove to manufacturer that I had not received item; once that was accomplished item was reshipped in 2 days, unit has worked quite well with one exception. There is a hand ring shown in one photo in the instructions that does not appear in the exploded view of parts, nor included in the box. I had a handle from a Troy Built unit that fit perfectly. After attaching it trimming began very easy.

  23. This is the most powerful one I’ve owned cuts like a gasser battery last a good while!

  24. I have several acres and for years I have fought with gas powered trimmers and all of the frustrations that come with these. Never again!!! This unit has all the power of my previous gas powered trimmers and best of all no more yanking on a starter cord over and over. No more engine problems to diagnose. No more gas. No more mess. No more wondering if the unit will start at the beginning of the season.I wrote this review because I just replaced the line for the first time. It is so easy! Insert the line, push a button, done! No more twisting on the trimmer head to wind the string. The team at EGO has thought of EVERYTHING!. I will be buying more of their products for sure!

  25. Very strong and easy grip

  26. A little heavy but not horrible. It’s going to be heavy when you’re lifting like that. But very happy with the power and once I got used to it the precision.I’d buy it again.

  27. Cut all kinds of weeds/grass regardless of height better than any gas powered trimmer I’ve used. Can be run with adjustable low to high speed. The string last a long time. The battery lasts a long time. If you use two batteries, charging one while using the other, you could cut all day. Mine last about 40-45 minutes per charge. You get tired before the batteries are depleted. It’s not too heavy, but not light, but it is very nicely weighted, so it’s easy to use.

  28. Bought this kit as an upgrade from a corded blower. The blower is lightweight and works well, however the battery won’t hold a full charge, We bought an extra greenworks battery also and both are the same. They charge up to four bars, and immediately before using they go down to 2. One of the batteries will not even charge past 2 bars. Don’t know if these were stored hot and got damaged, are just old, or what? The trimmer is decent, not much better than my old one and looks like we will have to keep the black and decker blower because that one also reverses direction to suck up and mulch the leaves. If you are considering this package, I would first explore the newer models. I have a feeling this model of battery is just older.

  29. I bought this Dewalt Weedwhacker one reason because all my tools are Dewalt. However, I also have a gas Weedwhacker that I couldn’t start. Plus had to add the gas is a total nuisance now this electric is clean and effortless powerful can handle the job without a problem, I highly recommend.

  30. Have a small ranch and been fighting with the usual 2-stroke finicky noisy trimmers and blowers. Decided to risk this cordless trimmer. WOW. Auto feed line, weight and balance of trimmer, quiet, 50-minutes battery time. Takes about 2 minutes to reload trimmer line – it does it for you! Could not be happier and truly not much more $$ than my 2-stroke devices plus, no fuel or oil to mix and to buy ever again. Don’t hesitate on this, you’ll be happy with it.
