Let me start by saying that even if the Garmin Xero was the same price as the Burris Oracle X, I would choose the Burris in a heartbeat!I like the lower profile of the OracleX. I like the wireless ranging switch. The Garmin has a wired switch. I like the fact that you always have 20 yd. crosshairs even if the battery goes dead. If the battery went dead on the Garmin, you are dead in the water until you replace the battery. The Burris is also a true variable 2 to 7 power scope. Most crossbow scopes are fixed once you set the speed dial. I like this because I prefer low magnification when hunting, yet it’s nice to be able to crank up the magnification when target shooting or sighting in at longer distances. When I first looked through the scope and turned the eye piece, it quickly came in to focus and I was amazed at sharpness and clarity. The Oracle X also compensates for up and down hill shots and has built in level indicating led’s. Truing is simple once you learn the menu button sequences and the scope ranges distance very quickly. Much faster than my hand held laser rangefinder. One of the best features is the Burris lifetime no questions asked warranty. As a retired electrical engineering technician and 50 year bowhunter, I can’t think of a single improvement I would make to the Oracle X. It is truly the ultimate crossbow scope.
I have glasses and it’s had to see the recticals on this scope. It holds zero pretty well. The fps adjustment is also the zoom. So if you have a fast bow the scope will be super magnifying or a slow bow like mine 20yds looks like 50 yds through the scope. If you got the money, get a tact zone from excal.
I’m still working thru some issues not related to this product, so it’s difficult to leave a full and comprehensive review at this time. But my findings are so far are…..I bought this as a slightly more economical option to other brands of xbow scopes that offer similar options/features. I like the reticle layout a lot more than others I’ve seen, and way better than the one on the cheap scope that came on my xbow that didn’t have a speed ring necessary to attain proper trajectory/subtension correlation. My shortcoming at this point is, I don’t think, related to this product. I am running heavier than usual bolts, that when used with 100gr fixed blade heads move the FOC of my arrow back too close to center, and allows the head to steer the bolt excessively in flight. I experimented with the bolt components, refletched using blazer veins to save weight over the 4″ veins the bolts came with, and that helped. Went to a 125gr head and it helped too. Got best results with a 150gr head when it comes to consistency, but now the bolts are nose diving at distance to the point where I can’t get a good correlation between the reticle subtensions and bolt trajectory. I basically went from a bolt that was 440gr with a 100gr head to a bolt now weighing 500grs, but the better FOC has seemed to sole the steering issues I was having.I was able to make it thru archery season with the setup, limiting myself to 40yd max shots. Took a few pigs but no deer (by choice). Now that I moving into rifle season I will get some lighter bolts for the xbow, and re-approach my setup in hopes I can get the FOC I need with a lighter head, and then be able to take full advantage of the features this optic provides. I don’t ever see myself needing it to be accurate out to 100yds, but will need it to make 60yds or so to not feel ripped off. Right now it’s good 20, 30, & 40yds, then bolts are hitting the ground before the target at 50yds using that subtension. Again, not blaming the product at this time, as I feel the problem lies elsewhere in my setup.Glass is nice and clear, reticle is crisp and well proportioned in the sight. Provides good features without overly cluttering the sight picture. Adjustments seem a little wonky, as can be the case with cheaper optics. Significant up/down adjustment results in some left/right wander, the adjusting left/right can move poi vertically a bit. It;s a back and forth game but one that isn’t completely crazy once you figure out what’s going on.The only feature in construction I could criticize is the ocular adjustment when used in conjunction with the flip up cap. The cap seems to tension itself on the adjustable portion of the ocular end of the scope, which means it can rotate and change the ocular lens setting in the process. I fixed this by getting the focus set where I needed it for my horrible eyes, using a couple wraps of electrical tape to secure the ocular adjustment to the scope body, then reinstalling the flip up cap. Now everything stays put as it should.Would I buy it again? I will answer that when I get all of my issues sorted thru and see if I can make this thing live up to its claims.
I only gave it 4 stars because it could be a little brighter field of view. Great scope for the cost. As for the BDC reticle… my crossbow shoots 350fps per manufacturer. With a 20 yd zero, 2nd reticle is at 37 yds, 3rd reticle is at 47 yds. Hope some find this helpful. Harvested a deer 20 minutes before sunrise, deep in the woods, first time out. Happy with purchase!
Use this scope on my crossbow! Have to make sure lighted recticle is off or you will kill the battery
This is a all in one piece for different situations. I like that I can choose what I need depending on what my target is.
Over all I really like the scope. Ballistics calculator looks sophisticated but not something I’ll use. Lots of other bells and whistles like automatic video recording after a shot is fired, including a few seconds before the shot – very cool. One shot zero was more like 6 shots; a little worse zeroing than I can do with iron sights. Super battery life. Zooming under 4x the site picture is great, zooming over 4x the image starts to digitize. Does not include lens covers and ATN doesn’t sell them for the thor 4.
I have not gone to the range yet to test accuracy; connecting it to my firearm was simple and the sighting is great at short and long distances. How ever for the value tested for accuracy or not; it is great.
Ok so the scope did not work on my crossbow it didn’t have enough elevation…… with that said the scope seemed very clear. The way it works for those of you that haven’t used one is you sight it in set the speed ring to the arrow speed of you bow and it’s then calibrated to your bow. The only draw back it the speed ring is the zoom for the scope so for it to stay calibrated you can’t touch the ring. Seemed like a nice scope. I ended up returning it for another one. Which was kind of a bummer cuz I really wanted it to work. But didn’t didn’t have the time to play with ring height.
This is an excellent scope for the price. It works and very bright. It appears to be a sturdy product. You can’t beat the price and it’s functionality.
