JULIAN WANG

I am working 10 years in Technology Field and my passion is review to find best product

  1. I’ll start by saying I barely write reviews. Only when something is really good or really bad. This product was the latter. It started off ok…nice looking frame. Very quick set-up. We purchased as a holiday gift for my mother (65 y/o and somewhat tech savy) who lives a plane ride away so we could surprise her with pictures of our family now and then. We really liked the email option. Our kids set-up the custom email address and it was somewhat inappropriate, so I reached out to customer service to see how to delete it and set-up another. It took a day or so, but they got back to me and reset the frame. I thought this was inconvenient that we couldn’t do it ourselves especially since all the uploaded photos on the old address were now removed, but wasn’t that concerned at first. We started to upload photos to the new address and noticed that the mail icon and timer appeared in the upper right hand corner. It didn’t go away for over two weeks that we had the product. Meaning that it was trying to download and couldn’t. The photos also lagged in spots and I received messages that “ourskylight is not responding”. Also the menu button on the back was not responding at all. Clearly something was wrong. I turned the frame on/off, reset my wifi router, placed the frame by the router, etc, etc. Everything the website said on their troubleshooting section. I even deleted every photo assuming we sent too many than the storage could handle. No luck. I have a home office so it’s not like I had issues on my end with WiFi. There was no actual customer service number to contact, which is the norm these days and fine, but email customer service did’t get back to me for almost a week. I wanted this all set-up for a gift and needed time to return, receive new and set-up in time for Christmas. Thank goodness Amazon stepped in immediately and sent me a shipping label and full refund (even though this was a 3rd party vendor). As I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice, I started to do some more research on similar products. There are much better and more economical frames out there. Getting down to the basics:1. There aren’t a whole lot of “customized” options on here. The settings button is kind of a joke and only lets you select a wifi address or tell you “how it works” email address. No other real settings. You can select a different speed (in seconds) but I noticed it reset from my 5 seconds per frame to 10 seconds. Perhaps part of the original defect. Another review called this a “One Trick Pony” and boy were they right.2. To delete photos, you have to go to each and do it one at a time. Select…delete. Select…delete. Kind of archaic.3. Other frames have motion sensor on/off. Nice as this frame requires a hard wired outlet and you would need to manually turn off if this was, say, next to your nightstand and you didn’t want the frame on when you slept.4. The touchscreen is worse than the first version of whatever touchscreen device rolled out. Slow, pressure sensitivity was terrible, etc. Again archaic.5. Does not play video. Many of them don’t and the ones that do are more expensive. But just saying don’t buy if you want to play video. In short, this was one of the more expensive frames out there. The lack of features, seemingly “old fashioned” tech and poor customer service makes this a hard pass for me. That is on top of the fact that mine came defective. I’ll say they did finally get back to me on how to return for a refund, but too late for me.I’m hoping I have better results with NixPlay.

  2. Bought frame for mom so us kids could add pictures for her. What’s good:-Frameo app works well for adding pictures wirelessly. I was able to add my brother and sister to the app easily. Pictures are easy to add to frame. What’s good enough or not so good.:-Picture quality is a little dull and dim. Even with brightness maxed out it’s not that great and the sharpness is lacking. It’s not awful, but it’s fairly mediocre.-I like how you can add captions, but I don’t like how every picture shows the date the photo was added at the bottom when the captions are turned on. That date is kind of irrelevant and confusing as it has nothing to do with the picture. It’d be better if it just showed the captions that you wanted and for pics without a caption showed nothing.-There isn’t a way to just connect the frame to your PC and drag and drop photos. That’d be so much easier when loading a bunch of pictures. I tried connecting to my PC and dragging photos in the correct folder on the frames hard drive. Unfortunately, despite the files now being in the frames HD it does not show them as available pictures. Right now my method that works the best is going into Google Photos (where I have most everything backed up) and making an album from there that I then download to the Frameo app on my phone. It works okay but is a little tedious.-The MicroSD port doesn’t seem to work. I add a MicroSD with images on it but the frame says no card is found. Card works on everything else I add it too.-The screen arrived with a few little air pocket looking defects on the screen that I assume are from a screen protector that was applied. They aren’t noticeable when the frame is on (for most images) but shows a lack of quality control.-Takes a long time to startup.-No zoom ability.-There’s no way to sort pictures or make albums within the frame’s software. It’d be nice to have folders for various seasons, holidays, time periods, etc.All that being said my mom will really enjoy seeing pics of the grandkids and she won’t fret over the above grievances like I would. It’s a satisfactory frame for many situations, but I wouldn’t be satisfied with it myself. Quality and features just aren’t good enough for the price.

  3. PROS: Easy remote access to photos management for grandma, bright and clear display, balance of features and simplicity, well-considered interface streamlined for remote frame control, works with short videos (see frame rate in CONS below)CONS: Entire system relies completely on manufacturer’s app and cloud service, no internal storage or card ports, narrow use concept may not suit everyone, videos can only play for 30 secs total at about 10 fps, frame control is a bit fiddly and oversensitive to touchSUMMARY: If you don’t mind that his frame is completely dependent on Aura’s app and cloud services, and you want to control a frame for someone else remotely, then this frame works quite well.AURA VS OTHERSI looked for frames that had more flexibility but was daunted by an array of dubious products with the gamut of confounding reviews (“This frame’s every dream come true?” next to “This frame tried to kill me!”) and general user confusion.Mainly, I wanted a frame that could be controlled remotely AND locally with internal storage or SD card ports. This way if the manufacturer tanked, the frame might live on with locally uploaded photos. Unfortunately, all frames seem to rely on apps even if they have internal storage so they would still be useless if the app is gutted. Also, the more flexible the more complex and these products seemed to suffer according to many reviews. The Aura frame seems limited in the right ways to the narrow task at hand: remote management of photo display for someone else.GREAT FOR GRANDMA/PA FAR AWAYI like how it’s possible to set up the frame as a gift with the recipient’s WiFi credentials preset so you can mail it and it’ll automatically work when plugged in at its destination. You can even type a note to appear on screen at launch to greet the recipient. Otherwise, it’s easy to setup one WiFi network and then bring it to another network and reset to work there. Obviously, Aura devs are thinking closely about who’s using this and why with fun and personal touches available.EASY & FLEXIBLE PHOTO UPLOADINGI use Apple iCloud shared folders in iOS Photos app to share photos with family members. There are 900+ photos and videos in there. Aura’s app easily allowed me to select that shared folder as a live source and over a few days added them to its cloud service for access by the frame. This means I can still add photos over time to one place that I’m used to and NOT be forced to upload to iCloud AND Aura’s cloud. In other words, the frame just worked for me. Otherwise, it’s easy to use the app alone for photo management and display. It taps into your folders and photos on your phone so it’s flexile and easy to get the right photos to appear automatically.Happily, I was able to easily pop a special photo into the frame’s stream by simply uploading it in the Aura app and setting it to “Show Now.” My grandma was sitting by her new frame 900 miles away and saw the photo almost instantly as we spoke on the phone. Perfect! It’s also possible to email photos to the frame via a custom address provided by Aura. It’s useful that I can see which image(s) are currently showing on the frame from the app so we can chat on the phone and see the same images together.OTHER USEFUL FEATURESOther nice features are: set timing of slideshow from 15 secs to 24 hours, autoplay videos or not, set speaker volume remotely and locally, remove individual images via app or frame, and auto sleep when lights go out in room. I don’t have multiple frames, but it seems easy to manage multiples with unique settings for each. There’s a simple touch interface on top of the frame that allows next/previous sliding of images, tapping to see more info such as date of image(s), limited control of image/video display (videos that don’t play sound automatically unless tapping the frame is a good choice so it isn’t randoming playing noise in a quiet room), and even remove an image from the stream. It’s fun that grandma can double tap an image to like it with little heart that floats up onscreen as I get a notification in the app showing me the image(s) liked. The minor problem here is that the touch strip on top of the frame is a bit too sensitive and fiddly so that sliding and tapping is delayed/too fast and generally twitchy. It’s not as easy to use as it should be but it’s not terrible and there’s not much to be done with it anyway. The worst part is tapping it to see choices of Cancel, Remove Image, and turning off the frame. Sliding between the options and then tapping to select is genuinely hard. However, the main use of sliding images forward or back works well enough. It seems like Aura chose to go cheap on processing power with the result being a bit of control lag and low frame rate on videos. Not a big deal but still frustrating when computing power is so cheap and available nowadays.

  4. So bummed out about this photo frame. I have another Fullja Digital frame and it is fantastic from the software to quality to execution.I love the size of this frame and that it doesn’t fall short on delivering great software and colors. It is super responsive to touch and easy to use. I set everything up wirelessly using the VPhoto app with my iPhone 12 Pro Max.It wasn’t until after I had it set up that I noticed 2 dead pixels. Thankfully Amazon sent a replacement frame and as I was setting up, this one had 1 dead pixel. I know dead pixels can happen, but I haven’t encountered it in I don’t know how many years and at this price point, I would just expect there to be none.It might not be noticeable if you didn’t notice it, but like a red dot on a cashmere sweater, once you see it, you can’t unsee it.Aside from the pixel, everything about this digital photo frame is pretty fantastic when it comes to size; this is the frame you get to impress the in-laws. I definitely feel the resolution should be higher at minimum 2k so that the colors don’t seem too washed and the pictures would be clearer. Most likely you are getting this for someone as a gift and they won’t be as critical as you would be, but I would recommend going with a higher resolution smaller frame rather than a larger frame with lower resolution.

  5. I was Not able to connect with Wi-Fi unless my frame was in same room as my router. Anywhere else in my home it would read “out of range” when I tried To connect with my wifi. This is very disappointing as I cant Have in my living room where I can Enjoy it. All of my other devices load with my Wifi with no problem. I cant Figure out why it won’t pick up my wifi. Other than that it works great, but the fact that I cant Place it where I want It ruined the whole experience.

  6. It took me a week to get it set up. While the instructions themselves were okay, I didn’t want to send thousands of photos from my phone in batches of 50 at a time, so I bought an SD card. I missed the one sentence on the site that stated the max SD card size is 32 gigs (totally my fault but as a helpful hint from my headaches, make sure you format your SD card to fat32 before you transfer files). So when I bought a 64 gig card and transferred a bunch of photos, it wouldn’t (obviously) read the card.I was slightly concerned based on some people’s reviews saying that the company was difficult to get ahold of. That was certainly not the case with me. They responded quickly, were kind, and offered photos and videos for clarification. One thing I would change if I could: when you choose “random” for your album settings, it makes the *photographs* random. It does not pull any videos into the feed that you may have saved to the device itself or saved to an SD card. So you either watch all photographs or all videos. First world problem but disappointing nonetheless. But, a good note in the “random” setting – It randomly and alternately chooses photos from the SD card AND its own internal memory so if you have files saved both to an SD card and to the internal memory of the frame, it randomly selects photos from both locations. Also of note – I have not had any issues using a 5 ghz wifi connection to transfer files.Overall, it does what it should. Great picture quality and makes my office a bit less depressing. But I would not buy it for its current price at over $100. I purchased it during a sale for $50 and $50 seems reasonable for the product (and minor issues) I recieved. It’s been running for two days now and so far, no major issues.

  7. Nice frame and great quality. However I bought this to make a slide show on it and add music. The picture quality is 5 star however the sound is so low you can hear it and there is no Bluetooth option or speaker plug in. If no desire for sound then this is an awesome purchase. If wanting sound then go with another option.

  8. I loved the easy setup and the quality of the pictures. I have the frame in my great room for family photos and memories. So much easier than doing a photo book. In years past I’ve done photo books for my children and grandchildren each year for Christmas. This year they are getting a digital photo frame.

  9. My daughter got a 10″ frame for Christmas, her only complaint was she wish it had a bigger screen. I saw this 15″ on Prime Day and ordered it for myself. I had a problem with the app. I kept getting an error message, I was going to send it back, but the next day I tried again, and the app worked on both my iPhone and hubby’s android. Was easy to send the link to family and I loved when the photos started popping up. Pretty easy to use, but you can’t watch videos and photos at the same time, so one day I pick videos and it plays all the videos that were uploaded and the next day I switch to photos. I noticed on newer digital photos some are very clear, but some of my older digital ones are a little grainy. It is very easy to add photos, through the app connected to Wi-Fi or you can plug it into your computer and drag your photos off of that. Also, you can use a usb device or SD card, pretty versatile. In conclusion – it’s not the highest quality frame, but it’s not the worst either and for the price I am very happy with it.

  10. I love this product quality of pictures are great and very user friendly. I have already recommend it to several family members.

  11. I was looking for a good quality digital photo frame that looked nice and this is the perfect fit. Many I have seen are in cheap plastic frames or just a plain tablet. I wanted something that looked like a framed photo and the quality and look of the frame is very good. It seems to be fake wood, but still looks nice. I will be painting it gold to match other frames, but I was so happy with it I ordered another immediately after setting it up.The app is easy to use and accesses all photos on my iphone without issue. The touchscreen is also user friendly and when in slideshow mode there are no popups or menu buttons showing.

  12. I’m updating my previous review. Today, I heard from the support team for this frame. They sent me a file that allowed me to update the frame via USB and that resolved my problem. I did lose all the pictures because I had tried a factory reset that did not help. However, I had a copy of the photos and was able to restore them. Couldn’t get the frame to access the photos on an sd card, hence the 4 stars, but otherwise, I’m good to go. PREVIOUS REVIEW: We’ve had this frame for 11 months. Today we got a message to update the software. After doing so, frame is completely non-functional. We keep getting an error message that “Unfortunately VPhoto is not running”. Since there are no buttons on device, all actions are via touch screen which is not functional, we cannot do anything with this device. Have emailed support and received no response. We will ABSOLUTELY never by anything from this company again.

  13. Was working fine until a mandatory update crashed and now it won’t work. Keeps giving an error, “Unfortunately, VPhoto has stopped”. DO NOT INSTALL THE UPDATE!**I am updating my review. I still stand by the comment of DO NOT INSTALL THE UPDATE as it will crash and ruin your frame. Could not contact the seller through Amazon, so had to spend days and days searching for the customer service group for the frame. Finally found it and was sent instructions on how to fix the update. Did NOT work. I ended up having to send the frame back and waiting for a replacement to be sent. The person I worked with did get a new one sent out, but it did take a month of back and forth emails to finally get a resolution.**

  14. **Updated – AEEZO quickly got back to me and helped with the frame that stopped working. We were able to get a new frame set up and back into Grandma’s room. **I bought this digital picture frame for my husband’s grandmother. It worked great for six months. Family near and far were able to add pictures from the app and his grandma LOVED it. We programmed it to turn on and off at a certain time so she would not have to worry about it and it was working out wonderfully. However, after six months, it quit working. Half of the screen flashes a white color and the other half is all black. Very disappointing.

  15. First, the good, and there’s a lot of good. I bought this frame for my 99-year-old mom who has advancing dementia. She absolutely loves looking at the photos and it can keep her calm and entertained for literally hours. Being able to put captions has saved family members from constantly having to tell her who people are and what they are doing. Also, the ability to add short videos is an added bonus, and interspersed with the photos it’s delightful fun for her. The photos are crisp and clear. I like that you can make a photo full frame if desired. I chose this frame over others because of not only the lower price and overall good reviews but also because it has internal storage and no subscription fees. The Frameo app worked perfectly for all the family members. I can sit with my phone and add a photo and captions in a matter of seconds. No problems at all.Now for the couple of negatives, one which is extremely negative. The lesser is that you can’t edit captions once you’ve loaded them into the frame. When I realize I need to add or change a caption, I have to reload the photo and delete the prior one. (Unless I’m missing something that’s easier! I’ve only had the frame for about a week now.)Now for the extreme negative feature for those dealing with someone with dementia but I also think it’s not a great feature for anyone. But for my mom with dementia, it can drive whoever is sitting with her a bit insane. Underneath the caption, the name of the person who submitted the photo and the date they submitted it is automatically added. I have seen no way to remove this. So my mom will read the caption and then read what is usually MY name and the date—Every. Single. Time. Plus, because of her dementia, she thinks that I took the photo and I took it on that particular date. Which of course mostly makes no sense at all, especially when they are old photos and I wasn’t even born yet. Haha. For those without dementia, I still think it’s confusing because it really can seem that it is the person who took the photo and the date that it was taken. So I think there should be an option to remove that. Trust me. It’s important! After more than a hundred times hearing your name in one sitting, along with a current date and “you took the photo”—it’s important! But, her enjoyment of the frame and the ease of use, supersedes even this. Just wish they would fix that.

  16. Love the size takes forever to upload. Still have not been able to get it to play video & sound

  17. I’ve had my first Photospring for about five years. It was a gift and I love it as a grandmother. The kids can send pictures to it and I can be surprised when a new picture pops up. It recently had a problem and so I bought a second frame to replace it. I couldn’t get the pictures to transfer so I contacted tech support. They had me send both frames to them. I received an email that says not only did they fix my older screen but they transferred all of my pictures and videos to the new frame as well. This is perfect for me as I have two locations where I would live to have an additional frame. Their product which holds an amazing number of photos and videos and their service is exceptional in this day and age! Thanks Photospring for being all of what I expected and more!

  18. I have been very pleased with my two purchases of the 10.1″ digital frame choice from Frameo. It is intuitive, the quality of the photos displayed are great, short videos and sound work well, and I like the choice of having all photos, arriving via the app, to upload at either full screen or fit to frame – your choice. And, if an image is missing the detail you’d like to see, it is as simple as touching the screen and choosing the fit or fill for that particular photo. The only issue I had was when purchasing a 32 GB micro SD. The first “non”-SanDisk purchase did not work with this frame and it should have, according to the description. I sent that SD card back and re-purchased a SanDisk micro SD (32 GB), and the frame recognized it at once. It was so easy to backup my photos from each of my two frames (one is a gift for my mother’s birthday), and I have the frame set to automatic backups now. My siblings and children all have a code to upload photos prior to us gifting her the frame. She is going to LOVE this!

  19. I got one for my dad, my mom asked for one and my mother-in-law. This is totally worth the money, holds a ton of pictures and is so nice to look at. It comes in multiple sizes which is nice for someone that wants to see a bigger picture or smaller or anything in between!

  20. I just opened it and started playing with it, so much not to review. But it is so much fun and seems to be working just as described. Send an email to the email address and it pops up on the screen in the rotation, no apps no accounts for the senders. I just had to set up an account for the gift receiver/frame.There are a few other options to fiddle with that I haven’t figure those but even so. The simplicity in how well easy and no fuss will make it a great gift.

Only put my grandkids on it and now my first great Granddaughter.

  22. The frame is great & more affordable than others. I have a skylight and this frame is very comparable. The app needs upgrading tho, it freezes, only allows 10 uploads at a time and is a bit frustrating to use. I ended up uploading the same photos several times because the app wasn’t keeping track of what was already uploaded. As a result I had to go to the frame to delete them as I haven’t found a way to delete single photos using the app. Having said that, the frame itself is easy to use and even has an option to adjust your photo to fit the frame or see the whole original photo. As with any digital device, a little time spent going through the settings and its very easy to use. I bought 2 for gifts this year. Our parents passed in 2020 and I wanted to share family photos with my siblings, one who lives in another state. I have recommended this frame to several people & they love it too!

  23. This is great photo frame . Now I can see the good memory everyday , I love how they let you transfer picture through wifi and your family member can do it , too . Over all great product .

  24. Share with family. Dropping photos to mom is always fun to share life thru picture with friends and family.

  25. It’s a great photo frame that I wiah Google Photos integration was a bit better. Unlike what’s shared on their website, you can make the frame use a single Google photos album for a slideshow rather than all photos in a Google photos account. However, since the frame slideshow settings can Connect to Google photos, it would be nice if it used the following Google photos fields in the slideshow when enabled in slideshow settings(“Show photo info”)1. Photo location2. Google photos album name instead of just “google_photo”3. Photo description for the caption

  26. Past digital frames I have rely on a card you put photos on and then they weren’t always to scale. These bluetooth frames are the bomb. This is so easy for me to send photos to and for my family as well. Now, to get people to continue sending after set up is another story, but I get their stuff on texts and just send it. I like the timer feature because I am not home all day. I have it set to turn on and off at certain times and if I want it on I just tough the screen and it turns on. Using the app makes it easy or I just email photos. You have to pay to access certain features which I am not willing to do yet, but I have had it for a year and absolutely no complaints. If there is a photo on there I don’t want, it just touch it and choose the delete option. There is a like button and when you hit the hear on a photo it tells you it sends an email to the sender, but no one has ever received a notification that I liked a photo.

  27. Bought this over a year ago for my 83 year-old mother and she LOVES IT. It is so easy for the whole family (28 grandkids and 2 greats) to upload pictures remotely and view all the uploads from the app. It has been an amazing way to stay connected and up-to-date with each other. We recently had an issue with the frame and customer service was excellent – quick response with clear directions, and the problem was easily solved. We are super satisfied!!

  28. It is a gift, so I cannot say how they like it. I am sure they will, because they asked for it.

  29. This Skylight frame is so wonderful! My daughter bought one for me for my birthday and I love seeing new photos displayed without having to get prints and change them out. I enjoyed mine so much that I purchased one for my parents for Christmas this year. The frame is so easy to use and set up. When new photos are delivered to the frame, you click the notification and it brings you to the new photos. Changing the orientation or size of the photo is very easy as well.I love my Skylight frame!

  30. Great picture quality. Easy to add pictures. Fantastic customer service. Case in point. I gave up our home cable Xfinity wifi service. Too expensive. Decided to rely on iPhone for internet access via cell towers. Forgot Aura frames needs internet to run, normally using wifi. Was ready to box up frame and give it away. But customer service walked me through setting up frame access using iPhone’s hotspot. Got me extra points with wife!
