  1. Good things come in small packages

  2. I had purchased a 4″ battery chain saw for branches and was completely satisfied by ease of use and battery life. I had a half dozen 20 year old spruce trees that died and needed to be removed. I used the 4″ to remove the side branches and then this saw to take the trunk down at ground level and then saw fireplace length logs. Used it all morning off and on and I gave out before the battery on the saw did so can’t really say how long it lasts. I would recommend for household garden use 100%

  3. I had a Hart 20v system. They advertised 120 cuts. Didn’t get close to that. This unit is a beast compared to the Hart. I think it will also turn out to be more durable overall.

  4. The battery on this lasts around 45 minutes to an hour depending on what you’re doing. That’s cool, after lifting your arms up repeatedly with this 10 lb-ish tool for an hour a break is a good idea, so take one and charge the battery.Right out of the box, it’s uncomplicated to set up and start cutting. Cool. What’s not cool is getting bar oil into this tiny tank. You can’t actually see how full it is or not through the side, and it’s super easy to overfill it and have it go running over the saw, you and the ground. Have a clean rag and don’t fill in the garage! Each time I used it it over two days, or four hours not totally use I had to refill the oil every 20 minutes or so. Not cool! But it does oil the bar really well…maybe too well.My first project was some overgrown bushes in front of our new house. Eight of them. From sugar cane like branches to normal ones, this saw ate through them! Along the way tightening the small slack that kept occurring in the chain (which is normal) via the screw on the front. Easy.At one point I needed to clean the gunk out. So, I took off the housing cover over the bar and chain and removed the debris, but the chain came off the bar. I put it back on, facing the correct direction, put the cover back on mostly, and adjusted the tension screw once more to remove the slack. And that’s the flaw. No matter what I do it will NOT get rid of the excess slack now! I read the manual (not overly helpful) watched videos online, yet the problem persists. Either I’m missing something or there’s a hardware problem, I can’t say.Do I like this tool? Yeah, when it works. I especially like just having to deal with a battery and oil. No mixing, just easy. I own other Greenworks products, including a lawnmower and this is the only one I’ve ever considered returning. It was easy to maneuver with bushes and I still had tree branches to tackle.

  5. Wish it had more power

  7. I bought this chainsaw to cut up a large Bradford pear section that a wind gust from hurricane Ian took down. Am 75 years of age and not looking forward to the cleanup. I do have a 16-inch Sthil that was a great working saw when bought a few years ago. However, the last couple of times I used it the saw was hard to start and didn’t want to keep running. Seems I was pulling the rope more than cutting.Thought about taking it to the fix it place and get it worked on or buy a new one. But still would have to mix gas and oil and pull on the rope till it decided to start. If one doesn’t use a 2-cycle motor often it can be finicky. I changed from 2 cycle weed trimmers to battery operated one’s years ago for that reason.Decided to check Amazon and see what was available. Saw the Greenworks 40v 16-inch cordless and read the great reviews it had received. Decided to order it. If it doesn’t live up to expectations can always send it back. Love that about Amazon. It arrived a day early. Unboxed it and charged the battery. It took 90 minutes to charge. I took it out this morning, put chain oil in it and fired it up. Let it run a minute to make sure the chain is getting lube. Wait, I missed pulling on that rope several times…not. Push the power button, push in the lock out button, and pull the trigger, you don’t have to hold the lock out button in after it starts running, and I’m making wood chips. Dang, I can get used to that.My first real cut, after cut some small branches so I could get to it, was a crosscut at the broken off end of the tree. First Picture, 19 inches across. Maybe the Sthil could have cut through it a tad faster, but the Greenworks did it in right good time with lots of big ole wood chips being made. I was impressed. I figured if it could cut through a log this size that easily, it is a keeper.I continued removing branches and limbs on left side of the blow down. Cut some branches, put saw down, it shuts down when I take finger off trigger, clear out the stuff I cut, pile it up, pick up chainsaw, turn it on. Then repeat again and again and again. Not once did I have to pull a rope to get it to start. That was so nice. That process continued till I needed a break for the day. I have no idea how long the saw actually ran, but I do know I ran out of juice before it did. Was thinking about buying a second battery but if one battery outlasts me…. What’s the point??? FYI…just checked the battery, it is fully charged in 1 hour 15 minutes. It had one light on the charge indicator when I put it on the charger. In addition, it used 1/2 tank of chain oil for what running it did.Am very happy with this Greenworks chainsaw. I am even happier that pulling a rope and mixing gas and oil is a thing of the past for me. Time will tell how it holds up. I would recommend this chainsaw to anyone

  9. Just received the 16″ chainsaw, and so far it’s a joy to use and can easily cut 13″ diameter logs with one cut. Processed all this wood (see pic) in about an hour, including hauling the logs up the hill. I have 2 other Greenworks tools (pole saw and string trimmer, with 4ah and 2ah batteries) so I bought the chainsaw “tool only.” I used the 4ah battery and it ran out near the end and used the 2ah for the last couple cuts, so if you have the choice, I’d suggest 4ah or better if you want to get an hour’s work out of it. Chain oil reservoir is still mostly full.Great customer service: I had a burnt motor on the pole saw a while back and thought it was probably no longer in warranty – contacted the company to purchase a new motor, and they sent me a new complete pole saw free of charge and it arrived within a couple days!Since the batteries work with so many tools, they’ll be the first brand I consider when I’m looking for leaf blowers and other tools. Love not having to deal with gasoline smell and pollution and rebuilding tiny carburetors! And I’m sure my neighbors appreciate the much lower sound polution if they can hear it much at all. Love it!

  10. I got this electric chainsaw first because I already have some other Greenworks tools that use the same battery and so I wouldn’t have to get the gas powered chainsaw out for small jobs or cutting down those occasional oversized firewood pieces. While it does work the chain doesn’t rotate at a speed near what my gas-powered one does and so it tends to bite the wood more and kicks and bucks. It also takes longer to get through the piece of wood.No problem with battery life since I only use it for small jobs.So I wouldn’t recommend this for your primary chainsaw, but if you need a second one just for small stuff then it’s okay.

  11. I said great saw and it is for me. I am 70 years old and about 120 pounds so I did want a light weight chain saw. We had a bad storm and several trees came down. Some of the branches were 6″ diameter, so I asked my husband if I could get this. He had a crew cut the trees into large sections and I started on the big branches. It cut very easily, and about the time the battery stopped, I needed a break anyway. I tend to over work myself, so this is a good thing. I am very happy with this saw.

  12. Exactly the saw I needed to process small kindlin …I use alot of small starter wood during the winter and it was a job to drag out my big saw to cut small wood…this saw is light weight , battery charges quickly, the oil reservoir has a large opening with a cap that operates like my big Stihl … couldn’t be happier and I’m going to give it a good workout tomorrow…if something comes up that is not as should be…I’ll edit this review… Had an opportunity to run this saw and I’m even more pleased with it… I’ll keep updating as I use it more…highly recommend

  13. This thing is just what I was looking for. Ive been cutting utv trails through some over grown property and cleaning up along fence rows. The battery life is way better than I would have imagined. I have 4 greenworks 6ah packs. 2 hours of cutting and dragging limbs and small trees and the first battery was still showing full charge. I’ve cut up to 10in diameter so far with ease. Its small enough I just leave it in my utv incase I need it.

  14. I researched several chainsaws before choosing greenworks – I wanted light weight – high safety ratings and powerful enough to tackle thick logs. The battery lasted perfect for my goals I sawed several thick oak trees that were already fallen in my back yard -I chose the 40 volt battery and 14 inch blade for high performance and wouldn’t have to deal the gas and oil mixture – easy maintenance -I recommend highly !And can add speaking as a female – any women out there looking for a light weight safe chainsaw you will LOVE this ! As well !

  16. Typical Green Works Beast. Quick check of the package, quick check of the Chainsaw, and off to the cutting. Put in the Oil, double checked the chain tension and cut/saw until the battery ran dry…..twice. If you own 40v Gmax Greenworks tools, then this one belongs in your collection.I won’t own gas powered items anymore. Battery power is the way to go and this 40V Chainsaw by GreenWorks is AWESOME and a Beast at what it does.

  17. Light weight and works just as good as gas powered

  18. Love it so much. Have cut down more than 100 middle to small trees and am ready for many more. It is strong and cuts very well. Bought a 6AH battery to significantly increase its working time. The 2AH battery comes with the tool works very well too, just need charging after about an hour’s work. Have sharpened the teeth of the chain once, and it is now working like new again. Highly recommend it, should have bought it long time ago.
