So I thought it may be a good idea to compare them side by side since I happen to own both. I’ve owned Frigidaire for about 9 month and hOmeLabs for about a week.EPA recommends indoor relative humidity levels 30-60%. Both of these units are well capable of maintaining that. Another note is that both of these units are appliances that do electrical work, therefore, they do generate heat. At my summer rates of 0.1154 cents a kilowatt, if it ran 24 hours a day for 30 days, with the compressor always engaged it would cost $33.23 a month to run. I use it an hour a day so for me it’s $1.38 a month. Overall it feels well made. I’d buy it again. Will it last? I don’t know. The reliability of these things has been in a steep decline since the 1990’s. This is now the only consumer purchase I will buy the warranty for.Details: This is my fifth dehumidifier and I like it the most. Compressor was noisy on the first start up for the first couple of hours then there were no rattles, buzzing or weird noises. Just the steady whoosh of air without any variations in pitch. The last run option is to put the humidistat in control of the dehumidifier and it will cycle on and off based on the set point. A word about humidistat control. When the desired humidity level is reached, the compressor kicks off and the blower continues to run for an additional 3 minutes, (drying out the evaporator coil). Drying out the evaporator coil puts humidity back into the air. Enough humidity that in a small room it (plus the detected moisture in the machine) will force the dehumidifier to restart a couple of minutes later. It then becomes this endless start, stop cycle. Very annoying. I use a small fan blowing on the humidistat (top right corner of air filter area at the edge of evaporator coil) to stop the humidistat from being triggered by the moisture in the dehumidifier. Not very effective once temperatures fall into the upper 60’s. If you wanted it for a basement I’d pick something else.

After reading many reviews ranging from 1 to 5 stars, I was scared to purchase this product, but I have to say, I’m not disappointed.Let’s start with why I purchased it – I needed to bring down the humidity in my west Texas home (~1,730 sqft). The humidity in my house with refrigerated air was between 55 (downstairs) and 65% (upstairs). After receiving the dehumidifier, I placed it upstairs in my loft, which overlooks most of my downstairs.PERFORMANCE (5 STARS): I ran the dehumidifier on its continuous setting for about 3-4 days, and I didn’t see any immediate results. The humidity in my house was the same, but it was removing moisture from the air – about 12 gallons a day. I was on the verge of returning the product, but on day 4 or 5, the humidity levels began to drop dramatically. After about a week of running, they are down to about 30% (downstairs) and 43% (upstairs), ±2%.TEMPERATURE: I read some reviews about the air from the exhaust being hotter than the current air temperature – this is true on occasion. I felt that the air leaving the machine was a little warmer than the surrounding temperature; however, it wasn’t anything significant. Other times, there was hardly any noticeable difference in the air temperature from the exhaust and the surrounding air temperature.PLACEMENT: I read in the instructions that this unit should be placed at least 12 inches from the wall on any side. After looking at the unit, the air intake is on the rear (which looks like a design flaw). I feel this could have been better placed on the sides or front (but hey, I’m not an engineer). Even though you can’t see the water level, the unit will automatically turn off once it is full.NOISE (4 STARS): While quieter than others (from what I’ve read), this unit is still a bit noisy. The 4.5k sq.ft. model I have does a good job at removing moisture from our home. At the price of $240 I do believe it should come standard with a pump & constant drain hose, but it is what it is. The unit itself isn’t going to get a stealth award, but outside of turbo mode this unit still moves a ton of air. If you purchase this unit, be sure to look at the fins of the condenser as some of mine were bent in the corners. As for the BEEP, it sounds off when you turn on, off, switch modes and the tank fills…not gonna lie, doesnt bug me. However, it did wake the family up at night when the tank would fill up so i de-soldered the buzzer from the pcb. Ease of disassembly made the process super easy, but it also revealed to me how much of the $240 is actually in the unit.All in all, this dehumidifier gets a 4/5. Could/would get 5/5 if a drain pump & hose came standard as well as a button to disable the buzzer, but I may add my own pump later on down the road.Side note: if you use a constant drain hose, you absolutely cannot route the hose to go higher than its comnection point. The constant drain is gravity-fed, so if you don’t route it properly you run the risk of your unit flooding like other customers have had happen to them.

Simple to use, but as others have noted, the water tank is rather small, so you have to empty it frequently when humidity is high. It is rated for 4500 square feet, which I would think would mean you could knock humidity levels down fairly quickly with a 2200 S.f. home like mine. Unfortunately, either the hygrometer on the unit is inaccurate, or it struggles to remove water from the air once humidity is below 50%. On the other hand, at least I don’t have to empty it as frequently now.

I purchased this product for continuous use in my basement. It has been running basically 24 hours/day for 3 months now. I turned it on continuous run mode and hooked a hose to the drain hose outlet to avoid emptying the tank and any downtime from the machine turning off because the tank was full.It has been very effective in reducing humidity in my basement. The machine measures humidity in the room, but I also purchased a separate humidity measurement device to compare the two. Both devices read fairly close to one another—the dehumidifier displays in 5% increments. My separate device reads in 1% increments so they were often a little different but within the range you’d expect. For example, before beginning the use of the dehumidifier, the area was at 57% humidity on my device and read 55% on the dehumidifier. I checked another time and found the device read 48% humidity and 50% on the dehumidifier.My basement is about 1500 SF. The humidity was uncomfortably high, ranging from 50-65% before using this dehumidifier. The dehumidifier removed 5-6 gallons of water per day from my basement (based on drops/minute coming from the hose) when humidity levels were 55%. It continued at the same removal rate when humidity was at 45%. At about 35% humidity, the removal rate was 2-3 gallons per day.I can’t easily speak to the energy efficiency of the product because there are so many other factors that affect energy use at any time, especially since my first three months ranged from the second half of July through the middle of October when A/C use is by far the biggest factor in electricity consumption, at least in my home. Honestly though, energy consumption was less of a factor versus effectiveness at removing humidity. The unfinished basement feels way more comfortable now, and I think we have fewer bugs in the basement as a result of eliminating the higher humidity.I’m satisfied with this product so far. I will see how long it lasts on continuous run mode though. I do have an expectation that it should be able to run for years in continuous mode. Perhaps that’s an unreasonable expectation, but I don’t think so.

The media could not be loaded.  I bought this dehumidifier for a future home. I figured it would be more cost efficient to keep the central on ‘away from home’ temperatures and let this machine run, while we’re away.Testing it here at this house has made me very comfortable with the purchase. Set up is a breeze. The 3 drain options make it suitable for any situation. Even in this modern home with an excellent AC system, it draws a lot of moisture. It fills the tank in less than 12 hours.A few important things to mention (that Vellgoo somehow missed):1) In the tank there is a small magnetic float that engages the cutoff switch when the tank is full. (See pictures) Make sure that it is not blocked or damaged. It should move freely. You can hear it click as it hits the top or bottom of it’s range, when you tilt the tank upside down and back. If the float is blocked or damaged, the dehumidifier will not shut off when the tank is full. This will result in water on your floor.2) When attaching either of the drain hose options, make sure that it is fully engaged on the nipple inside the device cabinet. (See pictures)3) There is an air filter holder in the side of the cabinet, where fresh air is drawn in. But, no filter element is provided. (See pictures) If you want this unit to filter the air as it recirculates and dehumidifies, it uses the same thin, open cell foam filter element as many window unit air conditioners. That element material is typically 1/4″ thick, cut-to-size and charcoal embedded to remove odors from the air. It is readily available at any Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s or on Amazon.I am very happy with this product and gladly recommend it.

First unit was damaged in shipment. When it his my front porch, the reverberation was felt at the back ofour home. Vellgoo’s box clearly states not to repack and this end up in bright red letters. First unit failed, never worked. Contacted Vellgoo and they shipped a second unit repackaged. Was delivered upside downwith no clear markings on the Amazon Box up, down or fragile. Poorly boxed with no interior padding around the box. Dehumidifier slips and slides inside of the amazon box. Person handling has no idea that it is a fragile product clearly marked this end up. Amazon shipping needs to get their act together. Replacement unit is operating as it should now for 36 hours non stop. Thank you Emma at customer service for you help with the replacement and return of the defective unit.

We purchased this unit because of good reviews from testing sites. We run a dehumidifier non stop in our RV in a coastal area with a lot of rain. Our first was a Keystone which worked great for 6 years, then started leaving water on the floor. Since it was not ranked as high we chose the Frigidaire.First the Frigidaire doesn’t have carry handles on the sides. We move it in and out of the RV or people moving it downstairs will find it slick to hold on. These are fairly big and heavy.It has a hose attachment at the back. It warns to make sure it is tightly closed when not using a hose but we didn’t. Water on the floor, but once tightly closed it is fine.This unit does not pump warm air into the room as our other one did. Having warm air was nice in the RV but not needed in our house. This frigidaire fan pumps a lot of air but it is cool.The air must be able to reach the back in order to take out the moisture. We always left our old one next to the cabinet to save on space, but noticed this one was not taking out the same amount of water overnight. It had to come out 12 inches into the room to work better.We will see if it lasts as many years as the old one.

We bought a larger version of this last spring and found it made such an enormous difference in the comfort of our home in Fort Worth, TX that we were rolling it into our master suite at night to sleep more comfortably, then rolling it back out into the main part of the house for us to comfortable work the next day. This year we purchased this second one for our master suite and we now run them both continuously. We were even able to turn our thermostat up one degree and still be more comfortable than we were previously. They both fill up after ~ 12 hours during the summer, but are easily emptied on a plant to water them without using extra water.

Didn’t work right out of the box. A small red light blinks (bucket full) even though it is completely empty. The compressor is not heard, total deadness.After a short inspection and surfing on Google, I found the problem (bucket switch position) and fixed it relatively easily. It took me 15-20 min. Since it was about something that I was able to fix myself, I did not return the product just to avoid returns and reordering…So, it has been working for a couple of hours, it has collected some water and everything looks OK so far.I was attracted by the extremely favorable price for “Black Friday” and the huge number of positive comments.What particularly positively surprised me was how quiet this dehumidifier is. Incomparably more than the previous 4-5 that I had before.Of course, shipping as always – flawless. Arrived two days earlier than they said.”Only” four stars, because it is obvious that this product did not go through product control, which is extremely irresponsible on the part of the manufacturer.Finally, a piece of advice. Since I recommend this product after all, my advice is that you should pay for the insurance for three years (it covers shipping, labor and parts) and it only costs $21.
