I bought this to replace my Amazon Fire HD8 Plus. That is/was a great tablet but my old eyes were finding it more difficult to see the smaller display.I did a lot of research before selecting this Tab 11 Plus. I had considered several of the Samsung tablets but the value and features of this exactly met my needs.I think everyone else has covered all the technical aspects of this tablet already. The action of tablet when switching between screens and apps is snappy fast. The screen brightness can be adjusted so that is super bright for viewing in direct sunlight. I particularly love that when setting up the tablet it will not only sync with your Google account but I was able to pair it with my Samsung phone and automatically copy all of the apps from my phone to the tablet. That saved a lot of manual download time.I did come with a bit of bloatware preinstalled (mostly games) but they were very easy to uninstall. All you have to do is hold your finger on an app that you want to get rid of and when the app window opens just select “app info” and if you can get rid of it the “Uninstall” option will appear.The tablet definitely has a solid and sturdy feel and is easy to hold.If you want all the deep nuts and bolts reviews on the tablet, then look at some of the other extensive reviews. Many make comparisons between the Tab 11 Plus and other comparable tablets.Update 10/31/2022: For a little over a month I have been experiencing an odd pair of things with the tablet. It will randomly restart with no user input. A Google search said to make sure that if it is a case, the enclosure is not touching the power switch. Mine is well clear of the switch and when it is restarting I am not holding it so there is no way there is any pressure on the switch. It will also randomly terminate an app and return to the home page while I am viewing something.Lenovo provides a troubleshooting tree at their support site for this problem and I have done everything, including a couple of factory resets and both problems remain. I haven’t been able to identify any user action that would cause these things and they just seem to happen.When I went to the Lenovo site and looked at the items I have registered there it indicated that I still had 635 days remaining on my warranty. When I started chatting with them on the support site they looked up the serial number and it indicated that the tablet had been sold in Poland and they only provided warranty repair service for items sold in the USA. They recommended I go back to the Amazon support site to resolve the issue.I cannot say enough about Amazon support. I used the Chat function and Patrick looked up all of the information and told me it should definitely be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. He then took my phone number so he could call me back once he had personally talked to Lenovo warranty support. After he explained the situation to them, he dialed me in on a conference call and everything was straightened out. Lenovo sent me a FedEx return label for either repair or replacement.BTW, everything else on the tablet is still perfect. The screen quality is excellent as is the sound. Everything about the tablet is zippy fast and a real pleasure to use, other than getting momentarily bumped out or having to re-open an app and try to find where I was when it terminated. That is not always easy depending on the app you are using.UPDATE 11/11/22 I sent the tablet in for warranty repair over a week ago and it is still in processing. The last update I received from the Lenovo repair website was that the tablet repair is on a “Hold” and that the damage was not covered under warranty. I can’t figure out what they are referring to when they state “damage”. The tablet is in pristine condition and it is a problem with functionality. It has to be something in the actual Android operating system since nothing is physically broken or damaged and I just experience the occasional restart while using the tablet. I guess we will see what the resolution is.UPDATE 11/20/2022: The damage done to the tablet was during the return shipping. I received a pre-paid FedEx return label from Lenovo. I took it to the local FedEx counter at Walgreen’s and they packaged it for me there in a padded envelope that I was skeptical would provide adequate protection. I voiced my concern and was told it would be OK. It arrived at the Lenovo repair center with a cracked screen. Since the FedEx label was generated by Lenovo, I couldn’t claim damages with FedEx (my direct claim was denied). I contacted Lenovo and they have been fantastic in handling the situation so far. The repair cost to replace the screen was not much less than purchasing a new tablet which is what I had already done thinking that FedEx would cover the damage. Lenovo customer service wasn’t aware that I had already replaced my tablet and after getting the details of how the shipping was handled, offered to send me a replacement tablet before they had even settled with FedEx. I let them know that I already had the new tablet in hand and they said after they reviewed all of my invoices (original purchase and the replacement) along with the photos I had taken of the front and back of the tablet before taking it to FedEx, they would give me a direct payment to my bank. Everyone at Lenovo customer service has been fantastic in the handling of this issue. The tablet itself is great and comparable to or better than higher cost tablets from other manufacturers.

I want to start off by saying that I currently own 3 tablets; a fire HD 10 11th gen, an ipad {8th gen} and this new Fire 7 12th gen. I use a Samsung S22 for my phone, have an Echo device in nearly every room, a gaming computer and a discount laptop. The Fire 7 is a digital life upgrade for anyone and Amazon released it at a price point that makes this a quality tablet that anyone can add to their life. I tested all 3 of the tablets and their “plus” versions, that Amazon is offering this holiday season. I am most impressed with this guy the 2022 Fire 7. I use it more than any of my other devices at this point. It fits perfectly in one hand for me and although it doesn’t have the responsiveness of my $1400 phone, it’s plenty quick for me and I need/enjoy using a larger screen. The Fire 7 is more than just my go to for accesss to all things Amazon, it’s a perfect e-reader, my video calling go to, my online shopping tool, the remote for all my smart home devices and it’s the perfect size to carry around the house.I purchased my Fire 7 with lockscreen ads. I don’t even notice them and advertising doesn’t bother me generally since it’s all tailored to my preferences these days. I much rather spend that $15 dollars on a bigger micro sd card. I have a 512gb card installed on mine. I do a fair bit of traveling and to be able to have this portable giant library of books, media and films is going to be priceless.The Google Play Store can be installed on any Fire tablet with very limited technical knowledge. It increases the devices usefulness and enjoyablity having access to all apps. If installing the Play store seems overwhelming to you ask a teenager in your life for help or pay some lonely coffeeshop some programmer $10 bucks to do it for you. I really just wish Google and Amazon would kiss and make up already.These make great gifts for just about anyone in your life. Get it with the ads and use the money saved to throw a 128bg micro sd card in with the gift. The 16/32gb that it comes with are unacceptable. Amazon gets dinged here for that. With the memory being used by the un-deletable Amazon apps and the system, if you purchase the 16gb version, you have under 8gbs of memory. Download one movie and you’re out of storage space. Unacceptable! All Fire tablets should come with 64gb of memory standard.Things I wouldn’t recommend this for; gaming, as a mini laptop, playing music or as cheap Echo show 8. The Fire 7 is the only Fire tablet that doesn’t do “show” mode, which essentially turns your docked tablet into an Echo Show (in theory). You aren’t missing out on anything. Echo shows are completely different and amazing machines and the Fire 8 and 10 do a lousy imitation.I just can’t say it enough. I get so much use out of this tablet. For $60 it’s an unbelievable value. I have a gaming rig and a $1400 phone and I find this tablets speed and responsiveness tolerable. Tolerable enough to make it my go to casual usage device. For everything most people will use a tablet for this does the job wonderfully and at a price that’s affordable to most everybody. Bezos has come to give tablets to the people! Do yourself a favor and get the 32gb model. 10/10, five stars. Excellent. The 12th gen Fire 7 is a total win.

I’ve been searching for a basic, good quality, and affordable tablet that I was gonna mainly use for web browsing for online classes, maybe stream some videos here and there. Though I was tempted to get an iPad, I had to be realistic with what I needed a tablet for. I need something that is good enough for simple tasks but basic enough where I can’t really do much else – need to be able to concentrate on studying. This tablet covers all the bases – fast enough, screen quality good enough, and not a lot of games or in my mind, distractions. So if you want a bare bones tablet that’s really just for doing simple tasks, this tablet is for you.

I found out what was wrong with my 7″ fire after I got this tablet. I got the 7″ to play my games on because I wanted to play on a bigger screen that is light. However, I had a problem within months of getting it & called customer service. The representative did screen sharing & although she couldn’t exactly figure out the problem, she found a solution. Months later, though, I had the same problem, but was so ticked off about it that I didn’t call for a long time. Finally called & as soon as I told rep about issue playing facebook games, he said to call facebook. Obviously rep is not familiar with facebook, because you can’t call them. You message them on pc/app. I explained that I kept receiving an error message about an embedded browser, but the rep wouldn’t screenshare to see what I was seeing & just wanted to get me off the phone & not try to solve my problem. After that, call, I worked on my facebook settings to see if I could get my games to work again & had initial success but had the problem again. I mention all this because the same thing happened with the 8″, but this time I had clues from my 7″ issues to help me solve the problem. Initially I played my games without using a sd card, but I had problem when I put it in. I erased & reformatted it first & received a warning that it may slow things down. It did. My game was so slow that I took out the sd card. This took out all the games I had transferred, so I put the card back in and got the embedded browser error message. I tried a new sd card, same issue plus another issue I had had with my 7″. I kept get messages when I opened my tablet that the sd card was missing & it wouldn’t let me use it till I ‘reinserted’ the sd card. The sd card was never missing, it was in the tablet the entire time, but i took it out then put it back in. THAT was the PROBLEM the whole time, the SD CARD! I didn’t play games on the 7″ till after I put in sd card. Since I played games on the 8″ before putting in sd card I knew the problem wasn’t the facebook’s, but Amazon’s. The way the device is set up, it is finicky about the sd card. Device doesn’t always recognize that the sd card is in & taking it out & putting it back in just causes problems with apps that were moved to it. The best option is to NOT USE SD CARD. I took out the sd card, did a factory reset (I had just bought this & the only thing I had done on it was play games, so I didn’t lose anything) then set it back up and enjoyed my games again. You CAN play facebook games on fire devices because they are on the app store, there is no problem with facebook, it’s the sd card. My recommendation is that if you use a lot of apps on a tablet, buy the tablet with more storage. Using a sd card is more headache that it is worth. Also, I tried 2 different brands of sd card & same issue. I bought the 32GB tablet which does suit my needs. Also, this device works fine. I would have given it 5 stars if it hadn’t been for the sd card issue. Do Not Use SD Card! What really bums me out is that I finally figured out what the issue was on the 7″ fire, but only after I’d traded it for a bigger tablet. I thought that the issues I was having were because the 7″ wasn’t as advanced as the 8″ which I thought was weird since I had an older 7″ that worked fine. The Amazon reps need new training to better help with Fire issues such as I had. I didn’t appreciate being brushed off by the last rep I spoke with & if the reps did get better training, I would have still have the 7″ that I really wanted. On the plus side, due to Amazon’s error/poor training, you now know Not to get a sd card for your Fire.

My kids have had IPads, and they are great devices, but theirs are extremely old and many of the apps were starting to not be supported. So it was time for an upgrade. I decided on buying the Kids edition of the kindle and my two girls have been extremely happy with them. I’ve also been impressed. Here’s what I liked and didn’t as compared to using an iPad for my kids:Good:The price of the device is a great value. Games on the display are colorful and bright, and both my girls can play for hours on one charge.The devices are easy to increase storage on. Unlike an iPad that is stuck at the storage you purchase it with, I bought the 16gb model and installed an inexpensive 128 gb sd card in them. The equivalent iPad would have been several hundred dollars more.I find the Kids plus software far mor intuitive for parents than how screen time on iPad works. It’s easy to set an appropriate age range on the kindle device and make sure my girls aren’t downloading anything that’s too mature, or too immature for their ages. Apple allows you to set limits on time, general maturity of content, and also block certain websites or apps (as does kindle) but the way that the Kids plus software works, it’s far easier to use in my opinion.The build quality, the protective case they come with, and the 2 year no worry guarantee exceeds what apple offers and costs far less.Finally the apps and content on the kids plus software are excellent. Apple doesn’t have anything like the breadth of content offered by kids plus and it’s all included for one year with the purchase price. I thought it was great that it’s not just games, but books, videos, and educational software as well. The content for the fantastic price of “free” is amazing and I can see paying the monthly fee for this after the year is up. It’s that good.Needs work:The games and apps are clearly tuned for the Kindle devices, but anything you do outside of just the kids plus software will seem very slow compared to iPads. If you are used to how an iPad immediately opens an app or menu, you will notice a lag when using the kindle. I would not recommend these for any sort of productivity. They are really only good for installed software. Any sort of web browsing and switching between apps, or opening third party apps (Netflix, Hulu, etc) will seem very slow by comparison. I will reiterate that for kids plus, these are fantastic, but don’t expect to use them for much else. Once an app is open they are ok, but moving between apps and doing admin tasks (changing passwords, updating profiles, etc) requires patience.Similarly, the non-kids software is fairly clunky. It operates on a modified version of Android and only having 2gb of system ram is very noticeable. You mainly see this when switching between your child’s profile and your own, which is necessary for many of the setup tasks needed to get the kindle ready for use for your kids. I often found myself wishing there was a way to access the adult menus from within the kids profile to save time, but alas, you have to switch to your profile, make updates, then switch back to your kids.In summary:If you can have some patience with the slowness of the device and the initial time needed for setup using the snails pace the system requires; this device is a no-brainer to entertain and educate your child.The parental software is excellent and easy to use to keep your kids safe. The device can easily and cheaply be upgraded to hold as many apps, books, and shows as your kid can handle. And the games, educational content, and books included with the 1 year free trial are consistently excellent. Finally, the 2 year, no worries guarantee will make sure no matter how hard your kid is on the device, Amazon will fix it for free. I give these my highest recommendation for young kids and tweens. Respectfully I disliked that no one mentioned the change in size HD Fire Tablet 11th Generation versus the HD Fire 10 Tablet 7th generation so now I had to get a new Tuatara Which is still like new would’ve worked if My new Refurbished 11th generation was just a Lil larger and the Camera in the Middle. I should get my new Tuatara by Sunday night. But I would’ve order it together had I known by the way I did my part with my trade in. I haven’t gotten any 20% off discount..The other thing I didn’t like. Whole foods would go find the Amazon return lady. She was gone it took about 10 min to get her. Unfortunately I was on my way to work. I do understand people need a break but someone should have been there . Imho. Okay I like my New Refurbished Fire Tablet HD 10 11 generation. I work during the week so after church tomorrow I will really put it back on. It came wrapped up nice. Thank You Refurbish dept and Amazon Warehouse. Merry Christmas.

At the end of the day, you would not be dissatisfied if you bought one to replace an aging 9th generation because the wireless docking option (get the wireless dock) just takes things to the next level, and the gain of two additional GB of system ram does give you a better overall experience. I’m setting this thing up for someone else, and I’ve been working with it side by side with my 9th generation having similar specs less 2GB of system ram (2GB vs 4GB) having no wireless charging option. Both are linked to the same Amazon account, same router (home network), with the same apps installed. Both are running Amazon’s latest version of FireOS which to me is the most impressive thing about Kindle Fire tablets because old or new both are maintained as equals – meaning you don’t lose your investment over time. Outside FireOS, you would have to spend $600 or more on an iPad to get this cause I don’t see any of the Android device makers doing this, and I’ve owned several Samsung Galaxy S’x’ models, Lenovo, ONN, LG, and many others. One year and six months out and you’re abandoned.Performance of Kindle’s $200 (2019 version) 9th generation tablet in DEC of 2022 rivals today’s $200 (2022 version) 64/4 GB Galaxy Tab 7 lite – with the 64/2 GB 9th gen Fire 10HD coming out slightly better despite having half the system ram and more screen area to manage (I owe this to the fact that Fire OS 7.x.x is actually a version of Android 9 Amazon currently maintains in-house while the Samsung Galaxy is trying to push the added baggage that comes with Android 12 – much more overhead.) The 11th gen Fire Plus tablet handles the screen better: When I drag the map in the MyRadar app around with my finger the 2d scrolling is smooth and responsive with the 11 gen Plus model – the older 9th gen begins to stutter as you zoom in and then pan about (but this is minor). Now, if I tried to edit a 1000 page spread sheet while listening to Spotify running in the background during a unique collision with an untimely app store update the added 2 GB system ram would make a huge difference. I can tell you that 3 years later due to Amazon’s diligence in keeping up with their version of the OS, Going with Amazon’s $200 Fire tablet proved to be a better decision than my purchase of a $600 Samsung Galaxy Tab S5E at the same time. WIFI reception of both generations of Fire tablets is superior to all competing Android tablets I’ve worked with equalled only by an iPad. So in terms of security patches to the OS, battery life, and WIFI reception – the iPad or the Amazon fire tablets are in my opinion the only way to go.A word about security patches: in my opinion of all Android devices Samsung is the best, but they use a tiered approach – top line models get fairly timely security updates (doing an app update in Google Play Store only updates the apps and Play Store, it doesn’t update security issues in the OS itself. ) I’m talking about OS system updates you can only get by going into your tablet’s system settings menu – which only the tablet makers provide. Entry and mid level Samsung devices get these as little as twice a year (which technically honors their pledge to support their devices for four years but in reality … sucks!). ONN ditches their devices so fast they obsolete stock still sitting on the shelves at Walmart. But check on the policies of LG and Motorola – you need to ask the right questions. I have a $600 Galaxy S5E I bought the same time I bought this $200 9th generation Kindle Fire 10HD. I’m still waiting for Samsung to patch a bluetooth issue the Android Open Source Project announced publically as “severe” five months ago. Amazon patched it the moment the security issue was announced … Five months later Samsung is still dragging their feet and I can’t use Bluetooth head phones because of it or any headphone for that matter because the $600 Samsung Galaxy didn’t come with a headphone jack which is kinda surprising since not only did Amazon include a headphone jack on the $200 2019 model, but Amazon includes a headphone jack on the latest 2021 11th generation model.A word about FireOS, and why I’m sold on it. Unlike Android tablets and their thirst to ad more and more functions and features to newer versions of Android in a frenzied race for the latest “greatest”, Amazon historically runs a modified and well maintained older version of Android for much longer than competing Android devices for performance reasons. Does anyone remember running Windows XP on a desktop designed for Vista? That same machine ran XP four times faster than Windows Vista. So HP and Dell had to stop shipping desktops with XP when Microsoft stopped patching security issues and were forced to ship the newer, but much slower and feature bloated Vista (the performance gains of the latest hardware were lost to the added baggage of the latest OS making the newer machines slower than the older). BUT … What if Dell had acquired the rights to XP and maintained the security patches themselves calling it Dell OS. Well, that’s exactly what Amazon does with Android. So, the eventual Fire OS 8.x.x.x soon to be released is actually Android 11 and Fire OS 7.x.x.x is actually Android 9 as I have learned. Running older but well maintained versions of Android just makes sense. The performance is just going to be better. People talk about converting Fire Tablets into Android tablets by hacking them. I have a $600 Samsung Galaxy I wish I could hack and convert into a Fire OS tablet because I percieve that Samsung is sloppy if not purposely negligent.As a side bar item: If you hack a Kindle with Fire OS 7.x.x.x to side load Google Play store, you will only be able to get Android 9 versions of apps which are likely no longer maintained by the Android community at that version level. Once Fire OS 8.x.x.x is out, adding Google Play Store at best will give you apps maintained up to Android 11 compatible source code – which will fall out of maintenance at the Android 11 package level as Android moves on to later generations.The most significant point I want to make in this review is that Amazon has demonstrated consistently over time that their tablets hold up well, and that they continue to commit to your Fire tablet’s system firmware with timely updates long after the purchase. Amazon runs an older version of Android they continue to maintain themselves. This gives newer hardware performance gains without making something you bought years ago obsolete. Why would I buy a 11th gen for myself, being otherwise satisfied with the 9th gen??? the wireless docking charging station. It would be nice to be able to just drop this thing in a cradle once I’m done with it and not have to worry about a cable everytime. With the docking station, you can afford to install the “what weather” app and leave it on as a weather station when not otherwise in use.

I got the 2022 Fire HD 8 to replace my 2013 Fire HDX 7. While the software on the new tablet is a huge upgrade, the hardware is rather lackluster (the decade-old HDX had an excellent display and processor, even by today’s standards). The Fire HD 8 is still perfectly usable for most basic tasks as long as you put up with occasional stutters, and the 8″ size is a sweet spot that is not too large for ebook reading but also not too small for watching videos. There are very few alternatives in the compact tablet market and pretty much none at this price point.Hardware:The display has a resolution of 1280×800, so it’s not full HD (compared to 1920×1200 on the old HDX 7 as well as the current Fire HD 10). The lack of sharpness is most noticeable with smaller text, but otherwise the resolution is not really an issue when reading ebooks (I use a medium font size) or when watching videos.The stereo speakers are also pretty good for a tablet of this size, certainly good enough for watching videos. For music, I use wireless headphones paired via Bluetooth, but there is also a wired headphone jack for those who prefer that.The MediaTek processor is perhaps the biggest letdown on the hardware side, it barely gets the job done and chokes if you try to do anything fancy.Battery life is excellent. Since my last charge 3 days ago, I’ve used the tablet about an hour each day (mix of reading, music and videos) and I have just under 80% remaining. That is pretty much in line with the advertised battery life of 13 hours, and it loses very little charge on standby. Using a USB-C charger capable of fast charging (not the bundled one), it charges fully in under 2 hours.Software:Fire OS is a pleasure to use, especially if you’re into the Amazon ecosystem. Obviously it comes preloaded with all the Amazon apps, but my favorite part of the UI is the Library tab on the home screen, which provides quick access to recently viewed content in each app (such as Kindle books or recently visited websites). It’s basically an improved version of the carousel on my old HDX, and it’s a really useful feature that other tablets could benefit from.Fire OS comes with the Amazon Appstore – it is technically possible to get access to the Google Play Store, but this is probably not the right tablet if you use a ton of apps. The Amazon Appstore does have apps for most subscription video services, however there is no official YouTube app (I just use the browser and it works fine).There is even a split-screen mode that lets you run two apps side-by-side, but the underpowered processor makes this unusable in practice. I even had the tablet lock up once when playing around with the split-screen feature. It’s a shame because the software features really deserve a better processor.Overall, it’s a decent tablet for the price and works fine for reading books, listening to music and watching videos. That “decent” could turn into “excellent” with a faster processor and a full HD (1080p) screen, and I would gladly pay a bit extra for that.

I’ve used Fire 8. It’s a good tablet. Nothing fanciful. Resolution was bad, 1080 etc. Anyway, I knew that when I bought the tablet. But the speed dragged too much for me to like the tablet. I only used it for streaming, games, and light online research.When Amazon had a sale on this Fire 10, I traded in my 8. I’m so glad I did.First important thing. The resolution is excellent. I think Samsung A8 tablet seems a little sharper, but I may be off. Anyhow, I am very, very happy with the display on the Fire 10. Compared to the 8, this one is royalty good. I love watching movies on this 10 tablet.Battery life so far is excellent. One charge lasts more than 10 hours and that is for streaming.The touchscreen is fantastic. I love it. Very responsive!When streaming, the volume bar also lets you mute the notifications. I did not see this feature on the Samsung Galaxy A8. That extra feature on the 10 is useful when you don’t want to be disturbed.Size of the 10 is great for carrying around and for daily use. Streaming on the 10 size is more pleasant. 8 is too small for that.Like other reviewers, I wish this 10 has google playstore, especially google meet. Very disappointing that Amazon locked out google. That is a BIG MINUS for me in terms of the 10 tablet. I knew this before the purchase. I’d still keep the 10 because I like it and Amazon had offered a good trade-in value and discount on it even at the sale price.When this tablet is on sale, and especially if you can trade-in an older one, I would recommend getting the 10. It’s easy to use. Even for seniors who are uncomfortable with computers.I have a bluetooth keyboard and it connected easily. Love my new 10! Thanks, Amazon. If only I had google meet on this tablet as well.
