I travel a lot and happened to be back in the US for the first time in awhile so I took this opportunity to get another hair clipper. I have other Wahl clippers but all are several years old as Wahl clipper just seem never to stop working. I have a Wahl clipper from when I was a child that’s still working and I’ve picked up a few more since then usually at times when I was traveling and didn’t bring my clippers and needed one. However, I decided to get a cordless clipper this time as that’d be easier for traveling. I also needed universal power so I didn’t have to carry around a large power adaptor or worry at all about the power input of the clipper–most of the older Wahl’s seem to be single power input and won’t switch.Wahl has always been just fine but I am not one fixated on brand so I’ll get what ever I think is the best. I did some research online and found one page online which seemed to have good information about a lot of different clippers. I looked up additional information on all the ones they recommended. I was surprised they didn’t recommend “1” Wahl clipper. Seemed strangely odd as this is the only company I remember from when I was a child and I was surprised they couldn’t even recommend “one” from Wahl. After some thought I decided that I should go over the line-up the Wahl had.Money was no issue as I was set on getting the best cordless clipper available regardless of the brand or price–I just wanted the best as this would be something I knew I’d use for many years to come. I understood that I probably would be sacrificing some power for cordless portability and I was ok with that realization, but otherwise I wanted a quality clipper. Finally decided upon this one after looking at probably every clipper on the market that I could find out information about online. Ordered and It quickly arrived and I was just as impressed as I had anticipated. You can read the description to find out everything about this clipper as it is as the description says. I love the different attachments, the ease of cleaning (which I don’t think they pointed out clear enough), the very compact size which is perfect for traveling, long battery life, and the look / design of it. The feel is very nice although I think it feels a bit too small in the hand although I am probably just use to larger clippers so I am sure I’ll get use to it in time. The stainless steel design is nice looking but feels a bit like it might slip from my hands too easily. They do offer a rubberized version but I feared that over time the rubber part of that would be worn off or ratty looking or be more difficult to clean so I went with a more long term choice with this one.The power adaptor on this is universal and adjusts power depending upon the power input. Very important for me as before I had to select the correct clipper power input according to what country I was traveling to. This one will work anywhere in the world. Very important for me.Now the best part about sticking to Wahl. I have heard their customer service is great, but I never had to use it until now. They messed up and sent 2 of the detailer adaptors and omitted the nose trimmer which I wanted. I called Wahl directly using the phone number provided with the clippers and the lady answering the phone was way beyond nice and helpful. She quickly got my information and said they’d send the missing item via Priority mail at no cost. 2 days latter it was here. It wasn’t just the fact that they took care of the problem, but she was sooooo nice, helpful, and also didn’t ask me a lot of unneeded questions. The service reminded me of the type of service Apple use to be known for.I understand mistakes happen. Not only just the possibility of getting a wrong accessory but even though they test all items I am sure it’s possible to get a defective item. Sh*t happens. But the piece of mind knowing that Wahl will very quickly and professionally take care of any problem is such a nice bonus that I will NEVER even think about buy any other brand and I will recommend this company to anyone looking for a clipper. This company has been around for a long time, is an American company (important for me), and has American quality customer service but not just that but top quality American style customer service. I could tell just by talking to the lady on the phone that they obviously train their customer service staff very good and give them the power and authority to “just take care of problems” instead of having to get stuff approved. She had my problem solved so fast and the missing item at my house very quickly.Other minor things. I also liked the small size of the power adaptor, the very stylish holder for the clipper (surprised they didn’t show that in the ad as it’s very nice and is stainless steal holder). Almost perfect little item. I always like to think about what I would change if I had designed a product. If I can’t think of much I then know it’s a great product. With this there are the issues about the small size and the feeling that I might drop it, but those are things I probably wouldn’t change as I think I’ll get use to them and the trade-off might not be work it if those things were changed. Yet, I would like to have an adjustable blade instead of having to use all the attachments. Adjustable like the larger Wahl clippers. Probably more difficult to design for that with the small size of this unit but that’s about the only thing I can think of that I believe is realistic and would improve this almost perfect item. More power of course, but I knew it wouldn’t be as powerful as a larger corded clipper, yet I understand this is not a realistic request of a small battery operated clipper. Furthermore, it is as powerful as I anticipated. It cuts my hair just fine (not at easy as my larger corded Wahls, but satisfactorily enough that it works and I don’t think I’ll feel the need to use my other clippers. I am a Black man also with thick difficult to cut hair and it works fine for me so should work for anyone.I can not recommend this item, their other items and company more.
Over the course of the last two months I tried multiple high end shavers (with cleaning stations) over time, to try and see which offers the best shaving and user experience.TL;DR:———After trying top of the line wet & dry from Braun (both 7 & 9) and Panasonic (Arc 5 – LV9N model) – I ended up keeping both the Braun series 7 and the Panasonic Arc 5. In my testing, the Arc 5 offers the best shaving, even if marginally so, and I prefer it as my everyday shaver. However, the Braun 7 comes close, and it is more compact, thus making it my travel choice, and why I ended keeping both. Braun 7 also offers best value for money. The Braun 9, in my opinion, offers no real advantage over the Braun 7, yet costs more and is bigger.Disclaimer————–After reading plenty of reviews online – it appears that unlike many other types of products, there is no one answer here. Each shaver has different design and therefore works better on specific types of faces. So what works best for me may not work best for you and vice versa. This is why I ended up buying and trying few of these products…Having said that… review in depth:The Competition———————-I initially bought the Braun 7 (Wet&Dry, 7865cc) and was actually very happy with it. So happy that I realized I will be moving to shaving with a shaver from now (vs Gillette blades), so I decided to check out maybe there are benefits buying a higher end model.I then ordered the Braun 9 (Wet&Dry, 9290cc). In my opinion it offered no real benefit so I ended up returning it.Then I ordered the Panasonic Arc 5. Note that the Arc 5 has two “current” models – the LV95 (which is not noticeably more expensive than the Braun series 7), and the LV9N, which is still new and therefore costs 300$. The latter is considered to have better comfort over the former, and given that my neck area is a tad sensitive I figured it was worth the extra. The LV9N is the one reviewed here – I have no experience with the LV9S.Quality of Shave———————-Naturally, this is the most important feature of a shaver, so I will start with that. I find all three shavers to offer really good shaving. In fact, I was very skeptical coming into this (I used to shave with Gillette up until this point), and while none of these offer as smooth as a shave, the difference is really, really, small. The Braun 7 was the firs tin the bunch, and I was really surprised with the closeness of the shave it offers. I got into this “adventure” a bit skeptical, but after trying the Braun 7 I realized this is good enough for me 99% of the time, and is faster and more comfortable than regular shaving.I then tried the Braun 9 to see if it can offer closer more comfortable shave as suggested by some reviews. It did not, not for me at least. Even though the head is larger and there are more cutting blades, I did not feel any real difference. Apparently one of the big selling points of the Braun 9 is its ability to better cut longer hair (3+ days of growth). This is not a real use case for me so I did not see an advantage there. In both one day old hair and two days old hair – the results were quite identical. (As a side note I will say this – I find that going over 2 days without shaving makes it quite hard for a shaver to get great results. In the few instances where I skipped shaving, I realized it was easier to just use a cassette blade for that). Finally I tried the Panasonic Arc 5. The Arc 5 is also quite big – but here you get something in return. The shave is ever so closer. Is it a huge diff? Not really…. But when shaving one side Braun and the other Panasonic, my wife can always tell which one is the Panasonic one. This is true right after shaving, and also 3 or 6 hours after). It is also a tad faster to shave with, esp with one day long hair, although again, the difference is small, as I need to do a similar process with all shavers (i.e. I can go only in a single directions on my face, but have to criss-cross in my neck area which is harder to shave – and that is true with all 3 shavers).Comfort of Shave———————–Comfort of shave was the biggest concern for me going into this. Roughly 20 years ago I tried buying a shaver and was very distressed by the rash I got. I gave up shavers since and not tried them until now. I can say all three shavers are very good in this respect. The Braun 7 is a very comfortable shaver. I had very very mild itching in the first couple of days in my neck (which is sensitive), but they went away and never had a problem since, even when skipping 2-3 days of shaving. The Braun 9 is similarly comfortable. Some claims say it is more comfortable, and that may be true for some – but I did not feel any difference.Regarding the Arc5 – It’s hard for me to give a similar review as I tried it already after using the braun for some weeks (and thus my skin got used to the electric shaving first). Today, I do not feel any difference in comfort between the Arc 5 and the Braun 7. I can, however, say that in the second or third day of using the Arc 5, I had some rash on my neck – it was a combination of shaving rather “aggressively” (i.e. pushing) and having a day with a lot of physical labor (i.e. sweating), so it’s hard to put all the blame on the Arc 5. Nonetheless, it was there and it was so notable I skipped shaving the day after to let it relax. This has not occurred since again, and so now they offer similar comfort. Some reviews I read on the previous model (the LV95) suggest comfort is a little less perfect there, so point to be taken.Handling————I like holding the Braun 7 the best. It is compact (which also makes it better for travel), and it feels more solid (probably because of the size/weight ratio). I also like the type of plastic it is made of. It’s a great shaver, really. Both Arc 5 and The Braun 9 are noticeably larger, which is sort of a disadvantage, esp. above the lips area. They also feel less solid (even though they are not), with the Braun 9 scoring the last place here in my opinion. The Arc 5 has the best locking and trimming mechanism in my eyes, and also offers two axis of movement for the (large) head, while the Braun 7 only offers one axis of movement (but its smaller head makes it a little less required). Bottom line, if they all shaved the same, I would use only the Braun 7.Display———-The Braun 7 has a very basic “display” while the Arc 5 offers more data and the Braun 9 even more. If you ask me – this is all complete waste of electronics and cost. The only thing to really care about is battery life. The braun 7 is a little more basic in it, while the Braun 9 and Arc 5 offers more granular data (Arc 5 shows it in percentage in jumps of 10%). The rest of the data, like “how long did you shave” etc – is meaningless, at least to me. In any case, for my use case, the Arc 5 and Braun 7 are “opposite”. The Arc 5 offers more granular battery life, but I intend to use it at home only, whereas the Braun 7 is intended for travel. I would consider all of this non-decision point anyway.Cleaning Station———————-All three models come with cleaning stations. For me this was non negotiable as I do not like to waste time on cleaning etc. Looking back, I may have bought the Braun 7 without the cleaning station as it is mostly for travel, although I think even this way I would be happy to come back from a business trip and just throw it to the cleaning station rather than starting to take it apart. All 3 cleaning stations seem to be working similarly well, although in different approaches. The Braun stations look a little cooler, and offer a 3 level indicator as to how dirty the shaver is (low/medium/high), where as the Panasonic Arc 5 only shows you where it thinks you should clean it or not.The Brauns use “cassettes” of cleaners which come with the fluid inside. It is flammable and thus harder to carry with you for travel if you travel longer and want to carry the unit. They are also harder to order (will only ship by ground shipping etc.), and more expensive. The Panasonic uses a soap based solution which comes in nice small packets. It takes a few seconds longer to mix it with water but its not a big deal.Bottom line – hardly a decision making point either…Conclusion—————You can’t go wrong with either of these models. As I said above – I ended up staying with the Braun 7 as my travel shaver and the Arc 5 as my home shaver and I’m happy with both.
I was excited about having a razor that does it all. I just wish I knew what was in store for me. Keep in mind, this could entirely be my fault, so I’m not judging and convicting here, just laying out what happened to me so I might save someone else from the same type of thing.I received my new razor on Aug 31, 2018.Using this razor for the first time was great. I loved how easy it was to use. The reason I got it was because a friend of mine purchased one.The way I found out about it was during a business meeting one day, I noticed him running this thing along his cheek and I asked him what he was doing and what that thing was that looked like a razor. He said it was the Philips Norelco OneBlade hybrid electric trimmer and shaver and he was shaving with it because he didn’t have time to shave before the meeting. So I checked it out and it looked pretty innovative and I liked the concept of it. The next day I ordered one from Amazon and when I got it, I went picked it up to try it out and accidentally dropped it in the bathroom sink. I saw that the blade section had come off and I wasn’t too concerned. I’ve been shaving for 30+ years and that’s happened to me a lot of times before. However, when I went to pick it up and snap it back together, I saw that the plastic blade stem itself had broken. It was so tiny and so fragile there was no gluing it back together even with PRO Super Glue (and trust me, I tried). So I sent the seller a message saying exactly what happened and they sent me a return label and a brand new razor and I had it in 2 days.Still on my mind about how many times I’ve dropped my old fashioned razor in the sink, the tub, the ground on a camping trip or any number of other places and all I had to do was snap it back together. So I resolved that this new progressive time we live in came with some drawbacks and I would just not be able to drop my new razor anymore if I wanted to keep using it. Especially when the replacement blade is $25 bucks a pop just for one blade refill. Now here’s the clincher. The fragility of this really cool and convenient device is NOT the reason I’m writing this review…I had that image of my friend/business associate shaving just prior to the meeting a couple of weeks earlier and I thought that was pretty cool. So I couldn’t wait until I was able to benefit from this new magical razor in the same way.Sure enough, I was running late for a meeting and had not shaved yet, so I figured, no problem, I’ll just run into the bathroom at work and shave before the meeting and that is what I did.The important thing to know about this razor is that the flat side of the blade itself is meant for shaving your face, but it doesn’t shave all that close. it keeps a 3 o’clock shadow which is fine for a weekend party with friends, but not for a work meeting. So if you want a close shave, you have to sit there and keep running the razor over your face several times and shave your beard down a little more each time. OR, you can do what I did…The edge of this razor is for trimming side burns, mustaches, etc. I assumed, but I found pretty quickly that if I used the edge to shave the cheek and chin and neck area, it cuts the beard down much quicker than the flat edge of the blade does.I hadn’t seen any warnings or “BE CAREFUL” messages in the literature and unless I completely missed it due to my failing eyesight, there wasn’t anything like that having to do with using the edge trimmer part of the blade for shaving your face. It’s also possible that this type of incident is something new that they had not counted on during their product development. If it was, I’m sure they would have had LARGE UNMISTAKABLE words that said, “CAUTION ~ READ THIS MESSAGE FROM NORELCO BEFORE USING THE DEVICE”.So I used it the edge of the razor on my face and I got my beard shaved down quickly and I had a clean shave for the meeting. About a day later after I had time to look in a mirror, I noticed a red circle on my cheek and 3 large blotches on my chin and one blotch on my neck. I assumed it was just a rash from the new razor and my face getting used to it.What it actually was however, literally did not even occur to me. Not even the possibility of what happened to me entered my thoughts. As I mentioned, I’ve been shaving for many years and nothing like this had ever happenedI figured it was from the razor and just a little rash and it would be gone in a day or two just like every other facial rash I’ve ever had from sunburn or shaving with a new razor for the first time.A week later when these red marks were still there, I decided to take a really close look at them with a magnifying glass and what I saw was frightening. Where I had used the edge trimmer to get a quicker shave with my new wireless super razor, every one of those red marks appeared to be gashes where the skin on my face was actually removed. Since it was a week after I had used that razor because sometimes I go for a week without shaving, these red marks were beginning to form what appeared to be permanent scars. It’s well over 4 months. Yes, I waited that long because I thought for some reason it would go away and I guess I denied that it was what it was (permanent?) I still don’t know and I’m writing this in January 2019 and it’s still there. It’s faded a little, but not much.I kept telling myself that this time would pass and these red marks would go away but they never did. I now have faint scaring on my face everywhere I had used that razor and perhaps pressed a little too hard or ran the blade over my face too many times causing a red mark where not only the beard was removed, but so was the skin on my face.I’m now at the point where I don’t know what to do. I thought about suing, but who do I sue? What are my grounds? That I was too stupid to not use the edge of the razor sand sacrifice my face for a quicker shave? But how could I have known it would do this. I’ve used blades made out steel, 5 of them lined up next to each other andI’ve never received permanent scars from it.I didn’t see any warnings in the literature saying not to use that part of the blade to shave with and it was easy just to flip the blade up and use that edge part to get a quicker shave.Nothing jumped out at me warning me to use caution and not to run the trimmer blade over my face too many times. I didn’t want a 3 o’clock shadow for a business meeting and I didn’t have time to run the flat part of the razor over my face 6 times to get a closer shave. So who’s fault? Who knows. All I know is that I haven’t used my new razor since I saw these red marks on my face and I’ve been purchasing scar ointment here on Amazon to try and get my face back to the way it was before I bout this amazing new technology contraption.I uploaded some pictures so you should get a pretty good idea about what happened to me by looking at my before Norelco and after Norelco pictures.
As I mentioned, I’ve been shaving for many years and nothing like this had ever happenedI figured it was from the razor and just a little rash and it would be gone in a day or two just like every other facial rash I’ve ever had from sunburn or shaving with a new razor for the first time.A week later when these red marks were still there, I decided to take a really close look at them with a magnifying glass and what I saw was frightening.Where I had used the edge trimmer to get a quicker shave with my new wireless super razor, every one of those red marks appeared to be gashes where the skin on my face was actually removed.Since it was a week after I had used that razor (because sometimes I go for a week without shaving), these red marks were beginning to form what appeared to be permanent scars. It’s well over 4 months. Yes, I waited that long because I thought for some reason it would go away and I guess I denied that it was what it was (permanent?)I still don’t know and I’m writing this in January 2019 and it’s still there. It’s faded a little, but not much.I kept telling myself that this time would pass and these red marks would go away, but they never did.I now have faint scaring on my face everywhere I had used that razor and perhaps pressed a little too hard or ran the blade over my face too many times causing a red mark where not only the beard was removed, but so was the skin on my face.I’m now at the point where I don’t know what to do. Maybe I thought I might use it again one day, but my overwhelming fear outweighed my desire to use something I paid a lot of money for.The scars that seemed permanent and scared the hell out of me, eventually faded. It was about another 6 months before they did but they did fade.I’ve been shaving with the old fashioned razor ever since.I’ll never use this razor again even if it comes out with a new model which I’m sure it probably has several times. But that’s okay I’m old fashioned and I’m used to old-fashioned ways.Whether or not I changed back to my old-fashioned razor is probably of little to no concern to anybody. In the context of this particular review however, I just wanted to share my story because I think it’s important that everybody knows about it.
The best of the rest
I just got this today and I already used it to cut my hair and get a shave on my face and it seems to work great so far, all the attachments are a little bit confusing at first so it takes a little while to figure out how to use them and change them but they have them in different colors for different areas of your body which is cool so you use the black ones on your head, the grey ones on your beard I believe and the couple green ones for your body but they have everything down in the paperwork so just make sure you read your instructions but it seems to work really good, the foil shaver or Precision shaver or whatever they call it is a little bit narrow so I would have preferred it to be wider so that I could cover more area at once but it seems to work pretty good so that’s okay and the longest attachment to cut your hair for me at 16 mm is still really short so I’m not really used to having my hair that short so I wish they would have included a couple more or several more longer attachments because right now I kind of look like I’m in the military but my hair was pretty long before so I definitely look cleaner but if I could order some longer attachments for the hair that would be great but I’ve been getting a little bit tired of always having to pay a lot for a haircut all the time and drive back and forth and wait for my turn and tip the hairstylist Etc even though they’re all great people and I love them it just has gotten old to be doing that all the time my whole life and having to always rely on someone else to cut my hair when they’re available so to have the option to cut my own hair is super cool for sure no doubt about it but this is definitely a good buy so far but I just got it today so I really don’t know how long it will hold up but I’m hoping the battery lasts for a long time as well as the cutting aspect and all of the different attachments but be careful you don’t lose any attachments because there’s a lot of them and it would be good if they had a better case for you to put everything because instead they have some of the attachments on top that are basically an advertisement showing the different areas of the body you can trim yourself and the rest of the different attachments are just underneath all loose but there is a little baggy thing and a little brush to clean everything but it would have been nice if there was a better case with a specific slot to put everything to keep it all more organized but then that would have added to the cost I’m sure so there’s a trade-off there and if we were able to buy extra attachments if we lose any or if they get broken that would be cool too because it wouldn’t make any sense if we had to buy the whole thing again just because we lost or had one or two attachments disappear or break because historically the thin metal part of the foil shaver always tends to get holes in it for me regardless of the price of the shaver or brand so I have to be super careful for that and not abuse, drop or have anything come into contact with that piece so I would love to be able to buy more attachments at an affordable fair price if mine does get holes in it because you can’t use it when it gets holes in it because it will cut you and that isn’t fun because I have a Wahl shaver that only costs about forty or fifty bucks and my foil shaver part has holes in it and just that little tiny piece is already thirty bucks if I want to buy another one so that’s already almost the price of a whole new shaver with that piece included so that’s beyond ridiculous for any company to sell a little attachment that they know everyone needs for almost the entire price of a whole new shaver so I hope that isn’t the case with this shaver set or if anything breaks or disappears we should have a way to replace things but overall so far this set definitely seems like a pretty good buy so far and one more thing make sure you charge this shaver 3 hours before you use it which is what the paperwork says I believe because mine came with a completely dead battery so that worried me a little bit but after I charged it 3 hours it was showing a full charge and it had plenty of energy to cut my hair and shave my face so I think my battery is alright, it was just dead plus it’s a lithium ion battery I think so I don’t believe it will be ruined if the battery arrived to me completely dead or I hope not anyways.UPDATED BELOW 07-15-2019Okay after using this multigroomer for several days now my thoughts are primarily the same but I have had more time to get to use it because my original review above was on the very first day that I received it after just 1 use and I still think it’s a solid multigroomer even though it’s the only one I’ve ever bought so far but my original complaints are a little bit stronger now because I’ve shaved the hair on my face multiple times now with it and it does cut like it should and it will cut all the hair on your entire body from head to toe like it says which is great and the reason I purchased it but the foil shaver piece for your face does function but it’s so extremely tiny because most shavers out there that are dedicated to shave your face they’re literally twice as wide if not even more than that plus they’re a lot wider also and they’ll have two or three different blades often where this one just has 1 blade that goes back and forth and the foil that covers it is really small also so it takes a lot longer to shave your face with this multigroomer then it will a dedicated face shaver which I have learned and just like my prior complaint about using it to cut your hair remains because if you really want to be able to cut your hair and have it a little bit longer on top this device will only allow you to have your hair 16 mm which is only like 5/8 of an inch plus the little flimsy bag that comes with it is totally inadequate so those were my prior complaints and they remain but I’m going to knock it down 1 star from 5 to 4 stars just because it’s a lot more work to shave my face now after using it several days then I originally thought so it takes me a lot longer to shave with this now so I actually think this multigroomer is like a jack-of-all-trades but maybe a master of none like the old saying goes because it will shave your hair everywhere on your body and trim it which is great and what it’s for and if you’re going to go on vacation for a week or two or whatever and only wanted to take 1 device just to maintain the hair on your body everywhere I think this would be perfect as long as you have a better case or bag for it but if you’re going to be using just one device on a daily basis to be shaving your face especially if you’re in a hurry and if you’re going to be using something every few weeks to cut your hair on your head yourself I actually think it would be much better if you have dedicated face shavers and dedicated hair trimmers because this will do everything but I think if you had a dedicated shaver for your face that would cover a lot more real estate that would be a lot better to use on a more regular basis especially when the hair on your face grows pretty fast like mine does and is pretty thick and if you wanted to allow your hair to be a little bit longer on top like I would like then I think you should have a dedicated hair trimmer as well that will allow you to trim your hair and leave it longer than just 16 mm with longer hair guards plus you should get a better case to put all of these attachments in so if it came with a decent case, had longer hair guards than just 16 mm and had a much bigger foil shaver for your face then I think this would be a perfect package honestly but it’s still pretty good nonetheless.
This product had clearly been used. Out of the box there was hair on everything. It appears to be genital hair. DISGUSTING!
Ok, so I have had a lot of earlier experience years ago with electric razors and found the experience very unsatisfying! I was prone to getting razor burn that was so common back in the day… my earliest experience was mostly on very early models I tried borrowing them from my dad, and then years later using various Norelcos…I gave up due to unsatisfying results, razor burn etc…I’ve always been an every other day shaver and for many of shaving years used blades. I remember liking the early Bic disposables a lot! Then later, when Gillette came out with the tri-blade fusions, I was sold… never looked back and have shaved that way for several years… so seeing a Braun unboxing video one day on youtube and being bored, i checked it out and loved the look of the Braun design and the cleaner/charger… I thought; Wow this looks like its come a LONG way… but I was skeptical… I started watching videos and comparing different models, everyone seemed to have their favorites and it came down to probably three names…I read reviews and kind of determined you likely would not go wrong with either of the top three, but it then would come down to design and accessories! After all my research, I settled on Braun because of design and the very cool accessories! I went with the series 9 and chose the cc version because of the cleaning charging stand, which I loved the idea of!Of course after I bought it, I was still looking at videos while awaiting its arrival… I started second guessing my decision and wondered if I shouldn’t have gotten the pro version… the pro can come with either a leather case or the very cool charging case…I was really concerned also that maybe the pros shave was a bit better and because of my earlier experiences with electrics, I thought maybe I mighta erred and for the money I spent, I hated to think I had not gotten the best shaving version…The long and the short of it is, I did a lot more research and video reviews and came to the conclusion most of the differences with the pro were accessories and a new head design that is on some new pro models. The heads for the newest pro are not even available yet in the USA (to my knowledge) and when they are, any series 9 can use them! Phew! So I really hadn’t made a mistake! At least in buying an inferior razor!Well today the razor arrived! Having a day off and 2 days growth of beard, (my beard I think is avg, not overly coarse or thick, not fair or light either!) I was excited to test it out!The worst part of a new Braun arriving is that it does not arrive charged! But I knew that having seen so many videos… charging time is only about 1 hour anyway, so I set up the cleaning charging base and installed the cleaning and lubricating fluid cartridge… then i had to wait…I let it sit for a couple of hours, (I had also started the cleaning cycle on it even though it was a brand new shaver, I figured a cleaning and lube couldn’t hurt it!!) The cleaning is also a lube for the shaving heads, so why not.Anyway, I finally tried it out! It was still slightly damp from the cleaning, but not really wet, (a lot of people in reviews said it often does not fully dry for 24 hrs, but no biggie, its designed for the razor, your face, etc… and the smell is pleasant!)Bottom line? What a terrific shave! I did the initial shave and was surprised how quickly it took down my beard! I did go back over it again in a different direction after feeling my face, (which looked completely smooth!) and gave a few strokes in a different direction just to polish it up!My face felt mostly baby smooth! Something I am not used to even with a blade! It also went way faster than my normal shaving routine which I always normally do only after a shower!I am extremely happy with this razor! If the rest of my shaving goes like this, I am one lifelong Braun customer!!One or two last things, I found a charging travel case on ebay for about a hundred and decided to buy it! Under normal use, i will be using the cleaning charging stand to clean, charge and store it in my bathroom, but for flights/road trips of a week or so? I will use the travel/charge case to keep it charged until I return and can drop it into the cleaning charge stand. And lastly, I do plan to use the cleaning cartridges and stand as an everyday thing! It’s funny, in many youtube unboxing reviews, I see people saying; I doubt I will use the cleaning charging stand… or some post videos of how you can save money washing out the cartridges and refilling them yourself… the cartridges do a very necessary and helpful service by both cleaning and disinfecting, and lubricating the shaver head!Yes, you can probably save a few pennies by washing them out and refilling as long as you are adding in the correct fluids, (and you need to make sure the right lubrication/disinfectant, etc is added) but the cartridges at the end of the life of it is NASTY! Check out a few youtube videos! The stand has been cleaning hairs, dirty grime and oil from your face and beard for a month or two!Personally, I don’t need/want to handle it! Theres a pop off cover on the cartridges and you should save it and recover it if you plan on recycling or tossing it out so the nasty stuff isn’t spilling out!I bought a 6 pack of cartridges and did an Amazon subscribe and save which put my cost, (with free shipping!) at about 5 bucks a cartridge! The cartridges last about a month or two depending on use…I’d rather spend the 50-60 a year and just buy the cleaning cartridges which help prolong the razor and the shaving cartridge’s life! With proper care, shaving heads last up to 18 months! Spend your money on the cleaning cartridges and your razor and shaving heads will probably last longer!Hope this was helpful! So far I am very, very happy!
I’ve had this unit for about 2 1/2 yrs. No complaints. Everything you could possibly need is included.Turned out, the attachment i used the most wouldnt stay in place anymore, as it had probably stretched out a bit from taking it off and on so much. I recalled lots of reviews stressing the customer service, and contacted them. Immediate response from the owner, and a replacement sent out the next day., free of charge. Not only the great trimmer, but customer service that one can only find with a small business these days.Well worth taking a look at if you’re in the market for a trimmer.
These clippers do great on my beard until you get underneath my jawline. Where my beard ends and my neck begins the clippers pull my hair instead of clipping it. It’s very painful. So I use my old clippers to clean up the edge of my beard on my neck, they don’t pull the hairs.
Great battery life and gets a really nice shave! Didn’t realize I wanted a timer on my clippers until I had it.I gave 4 stars because I specifically needed the nose hair trimmer, and that attachment does a really poor job. My old, dying nose hair trimmer does a better job than this one.
Lots of options. Doesn’t feel sturdy but so far so good. Doesn’t seem to cut as close as my old Remington but close enough. Changing attachments isn’t foolproof but got the hang of it after a couple of times. Seems good for the price (So far)
Needed a new beard trimmer and went with this Panasonic for a couple reasons. First I have used Panasonic trimmers in the past and they have always worked well (one of mine is still going after 13 years). I wanted a trimmer that only had one head vs. multiple as I did not want to have to keep up with multiple heads when trimming my hair. The bonus of this one is I liked the idea of not having a cord and instead just being able to put it on the charge stand (takes up less space). The trimmer is nice, but nothing too fancy basically a solid black design. It cuts well and is easy to adjust the hair length. The reason for 4 stars vs. 5 for me is, that it is rather expensive considering what you get. There are lots of other trimmers for more than half the price of this one. Maybe you get what you pay for, time will tell. I was surprised that it did not come with any kind of bag or case to make traveling with it easier (especially at this price). Another thing is that other trimmers have a 0.5mm hair size vs. this one that the minimum is 1mm to 10mm. Would have been nice to have the 0.5mm length just to have the rough look option. Other than that, no complaints good trimmer.
I was amazed when I opened the box. The weight of the unit is what got me. Not heavy, but heavy enough to know that it’s not a piece of junk. The attachments caught my eye as well. So many to choose from. Great buy!!!
The product lasted us ~22 months with an average of 1 haircut/week before the batteries wouldn’t last 1 haircu and by that I mean the batteries would get so low in charge that they would still power the cutter but at a much reduced practical feed rate. I am buying another one now if that means anything but I don’t need the case, accessories or charger so my new purchase today is creating unnecessary waste. Anyway the clipper is easy to use, of light weight and has plenty of attachement. The included scissors were dull after six months of use and I ruined them while trying to sharpen. 10 bucks at the mega store in every town gets you a much better pair of scissors that are able to hold a close cutting edge after sharpening. Anyway I rate this product as 8/10 for use and a 6/10 for longevity. (Best solution would be to have easily replaceable rechargeable batteries in the unit …or, as other reviews have pointed out, allow the clippers to work while plugged in to the wall wart.)
Dont go thinking these are top tier clippers. What i will admit is that for the price im very satisfied. I do like how you can adjust the length on the clippers themselves, i like these color codes to signify the different sizes and i dont get any hairs being pulled as i would with a cheaper pair. This is about as accurate as a review can get. You get your moneys worth.
When you get a new job and you have to be “presentable” everyday. This is a must! It does it all. Mustache, eyebrows, goatee, even my head!
As a side note I replaced the Wahl “Model 9916-4301V” beard trimmer with this one since that one really sucked. Maybe I got unlucky and got a bad one or something. This trimmer is fantastic. I’ve only had it for a bit, but compared to the last one I had, it works very smoothly and doesn’t pull hairs, the guards go on very easily, and most importantly come off very easily. The trimmer itself comes off and you can rinse it and let it dry so that makes cleaning it pretty convenient, there are three color coded attachments for Stubble, Beard, and Hair length with multiple attachments for beard and hair as well as two other attachments for fine trimming and nose/ear hairs. It being rechargable is also very nice as I don’t need to replace the batteries every now and then and I won’t go shave just to find that the power is weak. The shape and lightness of the trimmer helps a lot with handling, it’s comfortable to hold and has a nice textured bit. The only thing the Wahl one I replaced had over this was a better switch, this one is just a button, the Wahl one had a bit of a lock so you had to press in and push up to turn it on. It’s not the end of the world, but it was something I liked about that one.Overall, I am pretty pleased so far! The only thing that would be nice is if there was a light when plugged in to show if it was close to or finished charging, but other than that, honestly a pretty fantastic trimmer, especially considering the price!
I actually bought this as a bikini trimmer. There aren’t a lot of affordable, good quality options out there for women that just want to be able to get a quick trim and aren’t relying on their shaver to fix everything but the kitchen sink, but this trimmer seemed like a good option for just cleaning up real quick. I wanted something that coild get things pretty short, but I didn’t plan on relying on it to get immaculately smooth, that’s what I use the actual razor for, and to that purpose it works great. The relatively small size and light weight keep it easy to handle in delicate areas. And no, you’re not going to get a razor shave, but if you’re looking to just get things neat and ready for a close shave later where you want it, I highly recommend it. The color is nice and I honestly love that it’s not super gendered the way so many women’s shavers are bright pink or otherwise a blatantly eye catching color. It makes it much more discreet.Pros:*Good quality*Conveniently rechargeable*Light weight*Great color / style*Value for the moneyCons:*You’re not going to get your closest shave*Not totally waterproof
I replaced my 15-year-old Wahl beard trimmer with this. This is a very high-quality, well-built product with plenty of length settings. (Perhaps too many – but I did see another with more). I really only need two and this certainly has more than my old Wahl. When you turn this on you know you have a high-quality product, the hum is low and fast, and quiet. I haven’t had to charge it yet so the battery seems to last quite a while. (I have had it for three months not but I do not use it every day – more like twice a week)The drawbacks – It does not come with a case (But you can buy one for $13-15 on Amazon. Its charging cable has a somewhat large base (2′ x 3/3″) to plug into the wall, which takes a bit of room when packing. Finally, I wish the plastic “Trimming comb” felt a bit more substantial. It’s thin and light, and I kinda feel like it could easily crack or snap, especially during traveling. It’s the one piece that feels cheap on this otherwise quality razor.
I gave this to my boyfriend as a birthday gift since he was wanting a new one and he loves it. He has recommended it to several other men he knows so I would say definitely a good buy
Cuts well. the guides are great and in particular the short guide is very accurate. but it is very loud. Also, it seems a bit chincy, I hope the plastic body holds up.
Good trimmer i like it
Was using a Remmington like this. Needed the micro shaver. The foil part got a hole in it(3rd x). The replacement cost was too much along with shipping, could bye a new one. Did this one. Did alot of research. This is the only shaver that had consistently good reviews. It’s a little big, I have average size hands for a man. Anyway it does a great job. All attachments do a great job. Although, I don’t have a big bathroom and can’t keep it on the sink or in the medicine cabinet. It’s in the box in the linen closet. The only draw back. I say take a hard look at this shaver. The cost is very reasonable when compared with same models.
I love the trimmer. Powerful, long-lasting battery. The tools seem to be high quality. I don’t “manscape”, I just trim my beard and moustache. Great for that, I must say. The variety of combs/trim attachments is exactly what I needed and why I chose this. Well, the battery life too. It is very, very good. It arrived almost a month ago and I’ve yet to run out of battery – I typically groom the beard twice a week. I dropped it on the floor – hard! The floor, I mean. Didn’t phase the thing. I’ve owned several trimmers over the years. Some much more expensive. I’ve been completely satisfied with this purchase and the price point is spot on.
Did not come with a charging cord
I got this to replace one my husband broke. The number one thing I looked for was ease of use. Our old one had clips on it that broke very easily if not put on the right way. I hope you can see where that lead. So far we don’t foresee a problem of that with this one.
I have been buying Panasonic beard trimmers since maybe 2005. I had 3 in a row with a plug in charger stand and this upgrade plugs right into the wall without a messy cord. It’s super easy to adjust to any beard length I want. The trimmer head is removable for close detailing or cleaning stubble. The shape fits great in my hand. This newer version is black and wet dry and I think the blades are a bit sharper than previous versions. The price tag is right on and if you are mindful of handling these-don’t soak it or drop it-it will last many years. I have tried a couple other trimmer brands but this one gets a platinum medal for workability for any beard styling, lasts long and doesn’t cost too much.
Had an issue with the head and contacted company. They responded immediately and not only said they would send another head, but they sent 3 of them at no cost. Stood behind their product. Would highly recommend company and product to anyone.
I’ve bought several name brand trimmers from Amazon (Norelco, Panasonic, etc.) over the years and this outperforms each one of them. I was extremely skeptical because this wasn’t a brand that I’d heard of and if you take this position, this trimmer will surprise you.The best thing is that this trims fine and coarse, curly hair without snagging. I’ve even used it on areas that are curved and did not nick my skin. As this is just a trimmer you will not get a baby smooth shave so I use this in conjunction with a balding device for the smoothest shaved. By itself this trimmer will leave about 1mm or less hair.An unexpected but pleasant feature is that the body of the trimmer is made of a plastic that feels similar to an armrest on a chair or wrist pillow on some keyboards. It does not feel like plastic from a water bottle. Think of a regular toilet seat versus those weird plush toilet seats. This trimmer feels like a plush toilet seat but in a great way.So I’ve had it for less than two weeks so I can’t comment on how long it’ll last but I will say the directions are clear about the voltage of the charger. Some reviewers could have had issues because their charger output voltage is higher than what is recommended. Just read the instructions and comply with what they list.I’ll update when this dies or if I notice something else.
After being told by my doctor to discontinue shaving with a razor, I was on the hunt for a set if trimmers that would give a good shave, did not take up too much space, and looked sleek enough to keep out on the bathroom counter top. I looked at a lot of reviews and these came highly recommended. I was pleasantly surprised by the look and feel as they did not feel or look cheap. I liked that the shave was close and they did not pull hairs like a lot of other trimmers. I also enjoy the rechargeable stand which has a very small foot print given that I do not have large counters. I have had a few people comment on how nice they look and they really like the rose gold touch. I would definitely recommend.
Better than expected.
The cutting on this thing is great and it can go to town. For trimming downstairs though, definitely go slow and easy as the cutting ability is quite intense. Facial hair, I can trim fine but downstairs has been knocked couple of times so I am using Manscape 4.0 for that region. The trimmer comes with its attachments that work wonders and don’t “bend” easily. Thing to consider is that it is loud and I mean like having a radio on loud. I thought with it being small it would be less quiet but not the case. If you are concerned about waking someone up, know this can and will be heard. In my case, I have a master bedroom with bathroom so the noise filters through.Charging it is easy and lasts a long time. I have not experienced the issue where the trimmer gets stuck in the “on” position like other reviews mention but I don’t get it wet and I do a dry shave on the face. I have not tested to see if it’s “waterproof” or “water resistant” es sus at the end of the day, it’s an electronic device. The trimmer head is detachable and that I do rinse after use or use the included brush to dust off the trimmed hairs. All in all, it works and confidently dry shave the face without knocks or tugging of the hairs. I shave having the flat-side pressed on the face and go up, down, sideways and even with the blades on the face and shave away. For the nether regions, I did resort to the Manscape and works great as this trimmer can still knock even with care.
I bought this model to replace a bulky Panasonic. Have used this product for about a month and so far it has performed very well. The attachments are great, but take special care with the body trimmer! Maybe it’s operator error, but have drawn blood a few times even while exercising diligence and going quite slow. This is a quality product, and the case is an added bonus as it keeps this razor organized in a meaningful way. Very happy with my purchase.
I purchased this trimmer set because the battery in my old trimmer would no longer hold a charge and I had to charge it every time I used it. I only have to charge this one every few weeks and the charging time for this is rather fast. Usually less than an hour. Every time I turn it on it tells me how much charge is left in the trimmer. Another great feature is the fact that changing heads is very simple. With the multiple heads you can do everything from trimming nose and ear hairs to a full haircut. Can really save on trips to the barber and paying $20.00 for a simple trim. I would recommend this item to anyone and have considered purchasing again as Christomas gifts.
Can’t say I buy trimmers often, but I can say for the price, and all that you get, it’s just an all around good deal.
It’s a gift. Can not really comment
Over the years I’ve used numerous different name brand trimmers and this is the best of the lot. Love the adjustable length rather then fixed length using individual attachments. This is the first trimmer I’ve had that I can use the cutter blades directly on my skin without irritation. It’s also my first trimmer that works for both beard and hair with equal convenience and length control. I’ve never been able to give myself a full likeable haircut before. In the past I’ve used an epilator for my ears bet this is more convenient without the ouch. I also like the tray storage and the simple USB charging rather that a separate charger. I definatelu recommend it.
I use this product mostly for cleaning up my facial hair and it works really well. You won’t get the same amount power as you would with a higher quality trimmer but this works well for everyday use. I really like the attachment options that allow me to get a clean shave feel or short stubble. Would recommend this product for personal use! Can’t speak much on the products ability to work threw long hair or beards.
Got it for my husband. He loves it. Says it works great
It has two speeds the low is to low for me but the high power is perfect. Many attachments I only use two but it’s nice to have. I had tried four others and send them back. Best I can find for the price. The cons. The usb is not a standard USB-c type.No stand as a holder.
I’ll keep this review to what’s hopefully helpful to you. Once the pandemic came around, I needed to learn how to cut my own hair and now continue to do. I used to get a haircut once-per-week and I’m sharing that because mine gets a lot of use; I now cut my hair twice a week since I no longer need to pay. I’m on my third one (see below).Pros:-If you buy this to cut your hair, regardless of style, you can genuinely do full/complete haircuts. You can get “scissor-look” on the top with the right attachment and some practice. It’s not just for crew cuts.-Easy to use, small, and very light. I had a corded Wahl clipper that was better quality and more expensive but it was heavy when you cut your own hair and I found it hard to use when cutting the back of my head/neck. No issues with this.-Inexpensive and for what you get, pretty powerful with good battery life.Cons:-The biggest con (and being cheap plastic isn’t a con – that’s what this is) is that these units simply don’t last long with frequent use. I bought my first one in March 2020 and just bought my third one. The unit will just stop working at some point, even fully charged. Sometimes (and some other reviewers said this) you can literally bang it against your sink and it will start working again. But that won’t last forever…once you need to start banging it to work it’s only a matter of time.At least for me and haircut use, I have accepted this product as disposable and needing to buy a new one once a year for around $18-20. It makes sense for me, especially when I was paying $25/week x 52 times a year for haircuts. This latest one I received seems a little improved. The storage bag is much larger (the previous storage bag barely fit the razor and accessories) and this is just cosmetic but they chrome electroplated the on/off button. Not sure if they improved the internals of the unit. The unit comes with enough attachments for most uses. They stopped shipping it with the “foil” razor attachment, which was utterly useless and truly couldn’t shave anything…so it’s good that it’s gone. The other attachments work fairly well. There was a review I read that said the unit is noisy. It doesn’t sound like a jet engine and there’s nothing “noisy” about this aside from the fact that it’s a product with a motor…it sometimes baffles the heck out of me why people expect products with motors in it to be silent. What’s next…a vacuum cleaner that makes absolutely no noise? You want that too?
Appears to be a quality product and works well in initial hair and beard cutting.World’s worst packaging. Everything falls on the floor when you pull out the flimsy plastic holding the parts. Packaging like you expect from the dollar store.Because the packaging is complete garbage, there is no decent way to store all the parts other than in a big jumble. The flimsy black storage pouch is useless — try to find one of a dozen very similar black things inside a crowded tiny black bag. Probably designed for blind people who can do it purely by touch.Sizes embossed on the guards are also essentially unreadable except in just the right light. No braille for blind people, though, so that shoots that theory.Compared to other models, battery life should be good, but have not tested. Mainly got this model for the alleged 5 hour battery life compared to 1 hour for other models. No, I won’t use it for 5 hours running, but I am assuming this battery will be able to hold 10 minutes of charge for more years of use than a “1 hour” battery.Power switch is also annoying. Push to turn on, push to turn off. Also, it is in a position that it is easy to push while using the trimmer, turning it off unexpectedly. Annoying. Bad engineering design on the beautiful artistic switch. Probably designed by someone who was hoping it would hang on the wall in a museum. No doubt the theory is this will be bought for the husband by a wife who can appreciate the finer esthetics of its artistic design.Edit: Another annoyance is the power cord. If you try to use it while plugged in, power cord on the one I got tends to fall out. In addition, because the power cord supplies DC power, and it has 2 prongs, it will only fit one way, and it’s guaranteed to not be the way you try first. Need a keen eye to see the indexing slot. A much better design would use a coaxial plug, hardly an innovation. That would also allow a charging stand that takes up less space and would be way more convenient. Another engineering/marketing fail.

This is a great trimmer set! I bought this for my husband a few months ago but I have found that I can use it as well! Ladies, the “body hair remover” attachment works great for your legs! I have never found an electric razor that actually removes the hair but this thing does. My husband loves it too for trimming facial hair. Its much faster than a traditional razor and doesnt leave razor burn. The battery life seems to be good too! We have only had to charge it one time in 3 months! I am very pleased with this purchase so far. You can not beat the price for the quality you get with it! I would recommend this product to anyone!
Struggled to find a quality beard trimmer that didn’t cost a ton of money. This was it! Easy to use and clean. Happy customer
It was supposed to be a blue as far as I know which it looks just silver barely can tell that there’s blue I didn’t like that but I really like how smooth it is how clean it looks, and how well it cuts it could cut better, but so far very good loved it a lot and the fact that it has a battery display
I’ve had this razor for months and it holds a great charge! I even left it on overnight once and it still had a charge going. Would 200% buy again.
These clippers cut good but do not seem to have the battery life that my old Wahl clippers had.
I’ve used the silver and blue variation of this for years. For some reason, that one has tripled in price and this black one has taken over the $50 and under price. The only real difference I see is the charger being a standalone cradle, vs this one having plug where the shaver nests directly on the outlet. I actually like this as it eats up less space on the counter now, but does feel like an odd and slightly risky design solution. The shaver itself works identical to its more expensive counterpart. It feels slightly lighter, and maybe more cheaply constructed but not by much if at all.I used this predominately to trim my bald dome in and out of the shower. I drop them regularly, and replace every couple years due to the plastic gears / clips breaking.I’ve used just about every clipper, shaver, and blade solution and I keep coming back to these. They don’t grab skin or bumps easily, even without the guard.
I got this as a gift for my brother but got the same one a couple years ago when covid first started.I needed a hair trimmer for my head hair, but they’d all been bought up so I went for this beard trimmer. This is not a hair trimmer for the hair on top of your head however! Any extra effort on longer hair kills the battery (and maybe the motor) on this very quickly.I tried to shave my head with it (as many impulsively did when covid began) and had to recharge it several times, extending the whole process to take 3 or 4 hours. As long as you’re only using it for facial hair, this works like a charm and almost never get nicks unless I’m using the bare blade and going at an extreme angle. Lots of options for length and very cheap!Even with extreme use (such as head hair) mine has survived for several years now.It still runs out of battery quickly: I only use it for minimal shaving every other day, but have to recharge it after only 3 or 4 uses.
I recently purchased the Ufree Beard Trimmer for Men, and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The trimmer is well-made and has a sturdy feel to it, which gives me confidence in its durability. The blades are sharp and cut through my beard smoothly, without pulling or tugging. One of the things that I really appreciate about this trimmer is the variety of length settings that it offers. I can easily adjust the length to achieve the perfect trim for my beard, and the markings on the guide make it easy to know exactly how long my beard will be. The battery life is also excellent – I have been using it for several weeks now, and it has yet to run out of power. In addition to its functionality, the Ufree Beard Trimmer is also very easy to clean. The blades pop off easily, and can be rinsed under running water to remove any excess beard hairs. The trimmer is also waterproof, so I can use it in the shower if I prefer.Overall, I am extremely happy with the Ufree Beard Trimmer for Men. It is a high-quality product that delivers excellent performance, and I would highly recommend it to others.
Works great, isn’t hard to use and battery lasts for a long time. BUT IT DID IN FACT CUT MY INTIMATE AREAS! I was being gentle as it was something I was new to using/doing. Just be sure to be extra careful, because it CAN happen. Otherwise, fantastic product
Okay, I literally just got this today and already this has to be the best electric razor I’ve ever used. I’ve used several, from Philips to no-name brands and I can easily say this tops all of them, especially for the price asked. It’s a decently-sized razor that isn’t too loud. It only has one mode from what I’ve tried so far, but comes with a nose trimmer, cleaning brush, and 2 guide combs. There’s also a USB cable and charging dock included, which for $30 is fantastic. No need for me to struggle finding a cable online to charge my electric razor… You will need a charging block to plug your cable into though, but they are pretty cheap and most people already have one. I’ve also already used it several times today and not a single cut or nick!Highly recommend at least giving it a try. For $30, it’s really an unbelievable product.
works as expected but i gave it four stars because it did not come with the travel bag.
I was searching for a trimmer to get my facial hair to desired stubble length. This dial height adjustment guard is easy to use and many lengths to choose from (.4 to 20mm). This trimmer is also larger than many others and comfortable to hold. For those with large hands or arthritis/ carpal tunnel, this may make it easier to use (but I’m not a doctor!). I’ve included a photo comparing the size for this Philips Beard and Stubble Trimmer to the Wahl 2.0+ (similar in size to the Multigroomer line) and the Philips Norelco OneBlade Trimmer. The problem with the other clip-on, non-adjustable guards is that they come in set sizes. Seems most common for facial hair is 3mm (#1 guard) and I found that “3mm” guards varies greatly depending on manufacturer. I tried the Philips Norelco Multigroomer 3000 (less expensive) which includes a 1mm stubble guard and it shaved bare. I wanted something in between. This dial (lights up the size when adjusting) allows you to go from bare to 20mm quickly. I would imagine this is also a benefit if doing a fade style haircut. I have only used the facial hair guard thus far. It clicks into place and feels secure, but yet easy to remove for cleaning. I’ve also shaved my head bare without the guard and it worked well.An important note – this Philips Series 5000 Beard and Stubble Trimmer ($49.96) is NOT the same as the Multigroomer 5000 ($39.96). Yes, the multigroomer is “18 piece” versus “4 piece”, but I’d prefer 1 adjustable guard versus a ton of loose guards that I have to sort through and can get lost. Plus this trimmer is fully washable whereas the Multigroomer 5000 you need to remove and rinse only the attachments. As noted previously, there is a size difference between the two.It would be nice if this trimmer included the detail trimmer head, but something I can live without. Another area for improvement is if it came with or had a travel case available. I’d rather bring 1 trimmer and guard on a trip rather than a bag full of useless accessories. Overall a solid choice for this price point, especially if you don’t want a dainty size trimmer!
I was looking to replace my cordless trimmer. I never heard of Brightup brand but given the price, I thought I would give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised overall, except for one fatal flaw. If you like to trim to stubble length (1-4mm), you may have to look elsewhere. It has a lot of good features that I was looking for in a trimmer. On the top of the list – Waterproof. None of the big brands have a waterproof trimmer at this price point. Full metal trimmer heads – Many of the cheaper models have a plastic head with metal blades. They tend to be noisier and probably wear quicker. Charge indicator – Many of the cheaper models don’t even have a light to indicate charging, let alone a display that shows battery life remaining. (Personally I found the display of usage time after turning off to be a bit pointless, but certainly not a deterrent.) Number of accessories – I don’t want to have multiple grooming gadgets, especially when traveling. Battery Life vs. Charge Time – A different trimmer had an 8 hour charge time for 45-60 min run. This one is more reasonable 1.5 hour charging for 90 min run. I’ve shaved my head and trimmed my facial hair numerous times and is still at over 60%. Dual Speeds – My old Philips Norelco Multigroomer had a “Turbo” button which is nice for thicker hair, but I didn’t see any new models that still have multiple speed settings. Cut – These trimmers work well and didn’t pull. Build – They look nice and don’t feel super cheap. So what could use improvement? The on/ off button is very sensitive and in a poor spot since it’s easy to accidentally hit it while shaving. Some of the accessories feel cheap, but most of the other brands do too. The storage tray isn’t great. Need to use your own USB adaptor plug for wall charging. For me the fatal flaw is with the guards. I like to keep my facial hair at a stubble length and none of the guards will achieve this. I even looked for other guards and couldn’t find one compatible.A common guard length is 3mm (#1 Guard) but I guess what constitutes “3mm” depends on the manufacturer. Spoiler alert: this Brightup 3mm guard is over 6mm. The description also says “Adjustable Trimmer Guard 1/2/3/4mm”. I’ve included a picture of this guard set at the shortest “1mm”. It’s really more like 5.5mm to the cutting blade. I emailed the seller to ask them about the 1/2/3/4mm adjustment. The reply: “If you do not use the guards, it is 1 mm.” I asked if they had any other guards available or if other brands would work. I liked the trimmer and wanted to keep it. Reply: “There are no other guards. Don’t use the combs.” I know it may sound ridiculous, but this is the single reason I won’t be keeping this trimmer. I even tried to justify keeping it, but I’d still have to buy something else to trim my facial hair. I found others trimmers (at higher cost) that have much more control over the desired length and better designed adjustable guards.I can’t speak to the longevity of this trimmer, but if you don’t mind longer facial hair, I would give this one a try. If you want more of a shorter stubble, I have some other recommendations instead. If they change or improve the guards, I’d consider repurchasing in the future.
Great performance, smooth shave, all the attachments you need! I charged it once and it still works weeks later. Granted I only use it to trim by beard. It has a lot more umpf that I was expecting! I love it!
This was a replacement for my previous when I realized (1) I couldn’t find the charger and (2) a replacement charger cost almost as much as a new kit.In typical Amazon fashion it came quickly and although I thought to open in it delicately and tore through the outer packaging like a spoiled kid on X-mas. It came with enough charge for me to use it immediately and worked as well as I remembered.I’m not even writing this review about the device. The previous reviews are a useful indication; I mean, it’s Phillips. I’m writing this review mostly for the included storage bag. When I first ordered this item it came with a maybe 4×6 bag with a tiny plastic zipper. It wasn’t the greatest and after “not a ton” of use it came off. Sort of a bummer since the trimmer itself hadn’t gotten much use or transport. I was still able to seal the bag because, well, you know how plastic zippers work.Eventually I misplaced the charger and now we’re here but after opening the new one I was pleasantly surprised to find a new, larger storage bag WITH A DRAWSTRING! Someone at the company realized that although it may have been intended for only temporary use, it shouldn’t be total trash, because that’s just wasteful (to include something that has little to no value and might end up in the trash) but to exclude it (the storage bag) may, even nominally, bring down the overall value of the purchase…. And the drawstring allows me to HANG the accessories which allows for more counter space. The zippered storage did not.And guess what!? After retrieving the previous storage bag so I could take the photo that accompanies this review, I opened and found that the charger, you know, the one I thought I’d lost, was in that smaller zippered bag all along. So now I have two and don’t feel a lick of regret.
If you care about personal hygene you know trimming those nose hairs are an absolute must! You do have many tool choices on the market from full electric, to scissors, to these manual trimmers. This trimmer comes with the trimmer itself, and a small brush for cleaning. The trimmer itself does feel like good quality materials in the hand with some weight. This thing is fully manual so you control the speed yourself depending how fast you squeeze the handles. It does get some getting used to especially if you’re coming from a electric trimmer. Note if you don’t go fast enough it does slightly pull some hairs especially if it gets caught in between a cut. The issue with this manual trimmer i’ve found is its not the easier to maneuver at certain angles since you need to keep the trimming motion going. So likely i still have to use my small scissors to finish certain areas. But overall a great tool that likely will last a lifetime and without batteries!
I really wanted this to work as well as the Braun I had been using but it just doesn’t shave as close. It’s passable and might be really good for travel or keeping in the office for a quick shave before an important meeting or something but not what I was hoping for. That said, it gets 4 stars because it does work well on other areas and the guards are perfect for small jobs like eyebrows or sideburns and the skin saver makes shaving in more sensitive areas work really well. Overall, I give it 4 stars due it’s versatility and portability but couldn’t give it 5 because I want a closer shave in the morning.
I got it for all the attachments it has. Been using it for over a month now. It has done well and I haven’t needed to charge it yet. I only shave once a week. I also used it to do a short haircut. Worked fine, just need to shake out the long hairs often. Not sure why it has 2 speeds, but whatever. I like the battery charge indicator. Nice to know just how low it is before charging. The only negative is the holder doesn’t have a slot for the brush and one of the guide combs. No big deal.
My previous Wahl beard trimmer lasted me many, many years but the rechargeable battery eventually started going bad and I had to recharge it overnight every time I wanted to use it. So I bought the same one because I was tired of recharging twice a week and the battery was getting weaker and weaker. This new charger has a few additional attachments that I may or may not use as I tend to use only one trim level. It’s nice having a battery now that holds a charge. It’s nice having a nose and ear trimmer included, I like that idea but it runs off a regular battery and not a rechargeable battery so that’s kind of a drawback in my opinion.I would recommend this product.
I had a very old “pen style” trimmer that I used for many years to trim any long hairs on my throat/neck before shaving, or to clean up my hairline in between haircuts. I dont recall where I got it, but it was very good. It finally died :(Ive only had this one a couple of weeks, but here’s my thoughts so far:Pro’s –it cuts fine-the trimmer motor seems powerful-It comes with a nosehair and eyebrow trimmer attachmentCons:-To insert the battery, you have to pull the whole motor body out of the handle-the trimmer head itself is sort of short-the trimmer head is angled, which I don’t love – your mileage my vary on thisI cant speak to battery life yet, as Ive only had it a few weeks.Overall it does the job, and at 10 bucks its hard to complain 🙂
I have been needing a new beard groomer for a long time and just could make up my mind. After seeing this on YouTube and the discounted price at the time on Amazon I bought it and have never looked back. Excellent groomer!!!!
