Me: A foodie dad in the USA who loves to grill and has a couple decades of experience with serious grilling, smoking and outdoor roasting, up to and including whole hogs. Also, I’m an engineering geek that notices things that many less technical people overlook.You: Somebody who wonders if a portable grill is worth owning.My review: (This first review is being written after owning the grill for a week and using it several times. I promise to post updates as regards durability or other emerging issues)I like this grill, and here’s why.It’s well built. All stainless, quality fittings, includes a heavy gauge propane fitting (note: uses a standard 20lb propane tank, not a camp bottle).It zooms up to 600 degrees (F) in less than ten minutes, and cools to the point I can remove the grate with my bare hand within twenty minutes after I turn it off. The built-in thermometer is accurate and agile (it reflected with perfect accuracy that it was 100F in the Carolinas the first day I set it up). Initial setup required no tools and was no more difficult than unboxing, unfolding, and placing the burner covers and cooking grill in the right place.My first cook were some gigantic boneless chicken breasts I bought at Sams. I thought they were big in the store, but when I removed them from the package for marinating, I double-checked to make sure they weren’t turkey breasts… more than an inch thick at the wing-turn even after I broke them out for grilling. I was able to cook them perfectly with the right amount of char by paying attention… even with vegetables on the grill beside them.Steaks were next, and I got a perfect medium rare NY strip in 8 min after preheat.Every working surface is stainless steel, even the burner shields and the bottom of the oven, which makes cleanup easy. The legs fold up and the lid latches to the side, so that you can carry the grill like a suitcase and store it either horizontally or vertically (like you’d store a suitcase).When they say tabletop, they aren’t kidding. I stuck a thermometer on the table under the grill after it was preheated to see how much heat transferred. The air temperature rated only 5 degrees above ambient, and I couldn’t detect the difference with my fingers. There is a sealed bottom design with a large capacity, removable (slides out to the side) drip tray (also stainless steel) which collects an estimated 2 quarts of drippings, so there’s no reasonable way you could overflow onto your tabletop unless you’re cooking 50+ cheap burgers at a go. I’m confident that you could cook 4 steaks and 8 pieces of chicken inside on your dining room table without messing up anything if you disable the smoke detectors.What you need to know:1. The dome is very shallow. You won’t be able to cook a whole ham in here, although a pork shoulder just fits.2. The stainless steel is well engineered, but light gauge. This is to enhance portability and (undoubtedly) reduce cost of manufacture. This means that it heats up and cools down quickly, which is convenient if you’re moving the grill around and cleaning it, but inconvenient if you want to heat up a grill and have it hold its temperature, which leads us to my next point…3. The light gauge steel plus the shallow dome means that opening the grill top to turn or braise will cost you at least 50F, and often 100F. It only takes 1 minute to regain heat again, but purists should take note. This is why I call it a performance bike.4. Because it cools quickly and all the surfaces are stainless steel, I was able to serve dinner, eat, and then remove the cooktop, burner covers, and drip tray and put them in the dishwasher along with the rest of the dishes. This was my favorite feature of the grill… I’ve never had one that I could clean with a dishwasher, and using the same schedule I’d use to clean up the kitchen after dinner. This one feature was worth almost as much as I paid for the grill.5. Indirect cooking was super easy due to the 2-burner configuration and the shallow dome. You can turn on one side, sear your meat, and then move it to the other side of the grill to finish cooking. When you close the lid with the shallow dome, this works better than it works on a Coleman kettle grill.Will post updates.

Excellent grill !!!! you can adjust high and separately temperature for left or right so can grill at the same time different weight cuts.Ease open for cleaning and so portable, it’s not so heavy to transport.The size it’s medium but you can cook filet mignon for 6 or 7 at the same time. I will try for 8 next time. Last Friday we cooked in the Otto and also in the XL Beefer which is 50% Bigger or more on the outside dimmentions but on the inside is only 25%.We are very happy spending good times with the family and friends time with this grill.
How do you make the perfect steak? You need four things.1) a thick steak, I prefer ribeye. You will never get a perfect steak if you have a thin cut.2) Sous Vide machine. They are fairly inexpensive (especially when considering the cost of the Otto Grill). I prefer my steaks to be medium rare. And I mean medium rare all the way through. I have uploaded a picture of my tomahawk ribeye (that is garlic butter on top) and a steak from Peter Luger (high end NY steakhouse). Mine is medium rare all the way through with a nice crust from the Otto Grill. The Peter Luger steak is all different variations of doneness. The only way to get what I consider to be the perfect steak is to use a sous vide machine set at 128 to 129 degrees. This will get it edge to edge medium rare.3) A lot of salt, more than you would think. I use it course. Then some black pepper and garlic powder.4) The Otto Grill for searing. When you take the steak out of the sous vide bath, it is already the perfect doneness but doesn’t look appetizing and wont be at its optimal flavor. I set the Otto Grill at full flame and get the steak as close to the flame as possible. You aren’t trying to cook the steak any longer only trying to give it the perfect crust. One to two minutes per side will do (you don’t want any black areas). Throw a pat of butter on top (all steakhouses do) and let it rest 5 to 10 minutes so the juices can redistribute. This will provide you with a steak better than any steakhouse.By the way, if you like your steak more done than medium, skip every thing above and just throw it on your regular backyard grill.
Update after 3 years: I still love this grill. After 3 years of 3-5 days/week use the burners were getting pretty cruddy so I spent some time cleaning, which prompted me to update this review.1: The burners are not directly exposed to drippings since the grates have a solid section in the middle, which helps a lot to keep them from getting clogged, but after 3 years plenty of the holes were full of goo or otherwise not flowing right, causing a lot of the flame points to not work right. I went at it with a wire brush, and that didn’t quite do the trick, so I found a drill bit the right size and used that to open up all the holes on the burners. Tedius, but now all the flame points work correctly. If the burner were replaceable I probably would have just bought a new one, but they don’t seem to be available. It is possible to remove, but doing so correctly would require taking a bunch of things apart to get to the two screws that hold it on. I used a less-correct means to get it off, which turns out to not be that necessary but I wanted to clean the gas valve orifices. I should have just removed the valve body from the front of the grill instead, much easier.2: The little metal plate over the igniter broke off when I was trying to clean the burner, not surprising and this has happened on just about every small gas appliance I’ve ever owned, the thin metal just can’t take the heat of being exposed to direct flame all the time. I’ll fabricate a new one when I have time, for now a lighter works fine.3: The grates still clean up just fine, no sign of deterioration on the under sides, usually where I see them start getting eaten away by flame and goo. The griddle I use the most is much less slippery now than it was when it was new, but I always put a little olive oil on it when I use it and don’t have problems with anything sticking to it. I’m not sure I’d try to fry an egg on it but it might work, works great for veggies, fish, etc. The paint is starting to get scrubbed off the drip tray, but I can’t think of a good reason to care about that.4: The exterior surfaces still clean up almost perfectly, the rear part where the exhaust vents are is pretty covered with burnt-on grease, I could probably get it clean if I tried hard enough but I’m not that ambitious. The white paint markings around the valve knobs has long since worn off, don’t care…Overall, still one of the best $230 investments I’ve ever made.===After about 16 months using this grill almost daily I have to say, I love this little grill.I had a $4,000 Viking built-in BBQ at the last house I lived in, and this $230 grill is superior in almost every way (other than the smaller cooking area obviously), while the viking was a big pain in the a$$. The only thing I miss is a rotisserie, which I didn’t really use all that often anyway. The lid dome is too short to do beer-can chicken but I can live without that.The cooking area is plenty adequate to cook meals for 2-4 people, including meats and veggies. The heat distribution is very even, it heats up fast and stays hot thanks to the heavy grill plates and solid centers which retain heat very well while the lid is open. A 1lb gas cylinder will do about 4 meals, and it’s easy to hook up a 5gal cylinder if you’re so inclined with an adapter hose.The swap-top options are great, my standard setup is the grill grate on one side, griddle on the other. Meats cook on the grill, veggies on the griddle, and everything gets good even heat. I’ve even fried egg rolls and wings in an iron pot on the steal stove insert, it takes a bit longer to heat the oil than a real fryer would, but once the oil is hot it cooks just fine.I don’t bother putting water in the water tray, it cleans up just fine. The tray collects drippings and other cruft, I take it out and clean it one a month or so. The grates and the rest of the grill clean up easily with a little degreaser like 409.Love it!
The delivery experience was excellent! Arrived right when expected and delivered the heavy large box to where I needed it. Not a scratch or blemish on the box.The assembly was quite involved. Nearly every part of the grill except the gas valves and most (not all) of the electronics had to be assembled from a plethora of parts. If you’re not very handy – maybe hire someone to assemble or choose another grill. The instructions were all pictures (nothing to read) and did a pretty good job but you must take your time and STUDY THE PICTURE DETAILS or you will risk putting something together backwards or just incorrectly. The only part of the assembly that requires two people was lifting the main grill box with precision onto the fittings that connect the grill box to the stand while at the same time guiding the plumbing and cables through their proper holes.The biggest issues I had were with the doors on the stand and all the handles. They are pieces of junk compared to all the other parts of the grill (IMHO). The handles, other than the grill lid, are cheap chrome colored pieces of plastic that the paint will certainly flake off of within a few months to a year. The doors required me to bend their flimsy hinge like part (not a real hinge just a peg and hole assembly) so the doors would line up straight. The doors themselves are paper thin metal on a plastic frame that flexes as it’s opened and closed and doesn’t hold its shape well at all. So much so that the magnetic catches that are supposed to keep the doors closed won’t catch top and bottom at the same time because of the slight warp in the flimsy door. C’MON Napoleon – with a relatively expensive grill like this, how about you charge me another $10 – $20 an give your customers metal handles and quality doors+hinges that reflect the quality of the rest of the grill. VERRY DISAPPOINTING. I’ll tolerate it and keep the grill but I won’t recommend it to my good friends or family.As for the operation – I would say it’s very good (4 out of 5). There is only one hot spot and it’s in the center and not very big which is easily manageable. The side searing station with infrared works great! The main grill with gas burner valves are a smooth mechanism, light easily (so far), and provide good constant heat whatever the setting. The thermometer on the lid is one of the best and most accurate I have used. I like the lights on the burner valves as it is easy to see if one is left on and needs to be turned off. The lights are battery operated and I wish there was an option for a wall plug but that’s not a big deal to me. I haven’t used the rotisserie so I can’t comment much on that YET…stay tuned for an update some day…but the motor looks and feels cheap – has a plastic housing (not the best idea on a product installed inches from a heat source) but the rod and spikes seem like they would get the job done.The quick disconnect NG fittings are excellent and the hose is quite long if needed to reach your NG outlet.Overall It’s a “good” product and I’m happy enough with it. It cooks really well and I guess that’s what we are really going for here. I probably wouldn’t order another because I like sturdy doors to hang my grilling tools on without casing warping that prevents the door from staying closed on both the top and bottom magnetic catches. I also like a handsome grill and misaligned doors make the whole thing look cheap.I hope this is helpful. Happy grilling!
The only bad thing about this grill is you have to get used to how rapidly the internal temperature rises after you sear both sides and lower the meat. We’ve found that we have to move to take the steaks out as soon as our temperature probe hits about 120F, because just the time it takes to get the tongs and remove the steaks has them hit 130ish by the time they’re out, and that spikes to about 135 during the first minute or so of resting.That’s because this thing cooks like a BEAST. Really great crust on things, a minute per side does the trick.The way we get around having to bother with trying to time the internal temperature or use a probe at all is just to sous vide things to our desired temperature well ahead of time and let them cool before searing. That way it’s just two minutes under this thing and you just take the meat out altogether.It’s REALLY easy to clean this; everything can go in the dishwasher. We only bother regularly cleaning the grill plate and the drip tray, the rest you can clean less frequently because it doesn’t get very dirty.We are going to buy the cover for it because a sparrow tried to build a nest in ours one morning! To be fair, it seems like a great place to build a nest when you don’t know it can get to 1500F inside. We felt bad kicking him out but he’d only been throwing twigs inside for a few hours and hadn’t finalized anything.Everyone loves this grill!
The product came assembled and ready to use. The instructions are easy to understand. The grill cooks excellent steaks very fast. I looked at a bunch of you tube videos and there seemed to be issues with consistence of temperature and thus ability to evenly cook steaks. I did not have this problem at all. I simply put the steaks directly under the burners and there was no issue at all. Not sure why people in the videos put the steak under parts of the grill (oven really) that did not have a burner? Go figure. I would rate this higher than a five, but that is not possible. Yes, it is expensive, but a regular gas grill is about $350 anyways, and when I die, I will have more than $700 left in the bank, so why not spend it on the best grill. A great advantage of the grill is that it cooks from the top, so no flair ups. The instructions say to fill the grease pan half-way with water to make sure that it never catches on fire in the rare event that some flaming grease from above falls into the pan; however, I put beef broth in instead of water and make a great sauce from the drippings. Quite delicious, as I love fat. Since I play about 3 hrs of tennis a day, no problem with the calories. If you buy this grill, you will have some really tasty steaks, better than at a steak house.I cooked salmon on the grill last night. Unreal. Definitely worth the money for anyone who is going to die with more than $10K to their name.
Nice system. Faulty ignition design. Mine needs a bbq lighter to ignite. Would be better to have finer control over raising the grill to the heat. I find the sweet spot is between settings 1 and 2 so I have to hold it there manually to get the right temperature. Nice system, needs some improvements.
I spent about 2 months studying grills, on average 2 hours a day. I studied the videos and professional reviews. I used my 35 years of grilling experience. I currently own 7 grills across two houses (Weber 22″ kettle, Weber 28″ kettle, Weber Genesis II, Traeger pellet grill, Weber portable, cabinet smoker, and a 48″ all stainless off brand grill (which is useless because of uneven heat distribution). My wife gave me an “unlimited” budget. Seriously. I looked at everything. Called bbqguys, and the Embers Fireplaces and Outdoor Living in Colorado and got their opinions on grills that they could view side by side. Reveiwed tons of amazingribs.com reviews. Red hundreds of consumer reviews. I tried to stick with market share leaders as off brands had inadequate review numbers.Most of the brands have a fatal flaw, or flaws, that ruled them out:Weber-Im a fanboy but recent models have low grade stainless steel that rusts. Game over.Blaze Lux- hood too short to allow adequate room for rotisserie, there is a massive hole in top of rear cabinet creating wind issues with burners, numerous reports of difficulty with low temperatures. Videos and customer complaints report too much grease trapped on the burner protection trays, causing grease flames on food. Game over.Blaze Pro – same problems as Lux, but the hood is taller so rotisserie problem is solved.Lynx – the ceramic briquettes trap the grease and burn it, giving food burnt grease taste and excessive flamesDCS- a great grillHastan – a great grillFlame King – a great grillMy reviews of the Napoleons had a few flaws mentioned. They complain:1. The sheet metal is too thin. It is not a tank, but the sheet metal is certainly adequate everywhere for its purpose. It will cosmetically dent if you throw a rock at it. It will survive all normal use without a problem. I dont know that I would want it heavier, it takes 2 people to move it about already except on the flattest of floors.2. It took too long to set up (5 hours reported). What the heck? It came virtually fully assembled on a pallet. All I had to do was attach the side shelves, and place the removable bits into the grill box. An hour. Maybe the manufacturer newly started assembling?3. The doors dont line up. Seriously, they look fine. If you get on your knees and carefully study, they could be off by 1 or 2 mm. Uh, so what. Trivial, not important, unreasonable. Tesla cars have bigger panel alignment problems than that. I think that previously people had to set up the cabinet, and if you werent on a perfectly flat indoor floor surface you would then wind up with not exactly 90 degree attachments, and then the doors would be off.4. Random stuff arrived broken or broke later. Mine arrived flawless and works perfectly so far. Shiit happens. Get over it. Most say Napoleon fixed it if given a chance anyway.5. The cabinet (cart) seemed cheap. Well, it is actually pretty good for how cheap it is. The more expensive brands charge two thousand just for that cart. This one has a cart for half that and it is quite adequate. Seriously, it a great cart for the money. My biggest complaint about the Napoleon, honestly, is the cart sides, back, and bottom are not stainless but painted galvanized steel. The back of the grill box itself is also painted galvanized steel. Rusting out is the reason Im having to replace my Weber Genesis, a grill I would otherwise love. The Genesis’ non stainless cart pieces, especially the bottom, completely rusted apart (while the stainless front and side shelves are completely fine). Mark my words: with the Napoleon, water will come in the vent holes on the sides and back, sit on the bottom of the cabinet, and the cart bottom will rust to nonexistence in 10-15 years. Put on that rain cover religiously, and I expect you will be good for 15-20 years. If you live near salt water dont even think about buying a grill without all stainless.My favorite Napoleon features:1. Looks great!2. Incredible value!3. Large wheels on one side of cart let me do rough terrain like door thresholds. (Only the Hestan also has oversized wheels)4. Burners that are turned on are a different color than off burners (noone else has two colors that I know of)5. The grills are rock solid. More expensive grills have even larger grill rod diameters, but according to amazingribs.com these larger grill bars are a detriment because they add char while subtracting from the percentage of the more desirable toasted flesh.6. Has all the options7. The stainless steel burner protector/heat deflectors are tried and true. Every other method I have studied to keep grease off the burners burns too much of the grease causing grease fires and/or sooty tasting meat. Gross.In the end, there were only a few grills I would consider. The Napoleon, DCS, Heston, Fire Magic, Kalamazoo. Why did I get the Napoleon? I decided I really wanted the larger wheels of the Napoleon and the Heston, so I can move the grill around between multiple decks and across door thresholds. The Napoleon at 350 lbs is heavy enough, the Hestan at 500 lbs seemed back breaking overkill. All the other brands dont have the big wheels, and 4 little caster wheels is a joke on grills at these weights. In addition, virtually all luxury brands have 25000 btu burners and would require a 3/4 gas line, and I only had a 1/2″ gas pipe without tearing up my floors. Everyone with inadequate natural gas supply complains of cold spots as you go from front to back and from center to the grill sides. And finally, these more expensive luxury grills with their more massive interior components have a longer warmup time. Im doing a gas grill for speed. The burners that put out 25000 btu often have a problem producing grill temps under 300 degrees (Im especially looking at you Blaze). The high heats are rarely the problem as every grill can turn meat into a black crisp. Its the low temps that separate out the better cookers from the lesser. The Napoleons are a crazy value.
Very well constructed thick gage metal all around. I like the high heat. Heats up fast and grills Great as advertised. The moving rack-grill section you put into the rear height adjustment mechanism is the design flaw. The grill plate movement assembly sags heavy on the left side on my grill. This is the section that raises and lowers by the height adjustment lever on the right side of grill. It could have been designed where it would be supported better than just the rear only. And with the addition meat, chicken, etc. will only exasperate the problem. I’m Expecting this to be a problem in the near future. I was overly excited to start grilling but I should have returned it over this design flaw. Planning on enjoying this a lot while it lasts.
Unboxing, assembly and initial impressions, at $265. I bought this grill for family camping trips and considered the value and utility of static grills placed on a camping table vs. mobile grills. Use review will come later if I remember to do so.I love the look of the grill, the potential portability, features (including the water trap for drippings and easy cleanup) and ease of use. The box arrived without damage and the grill was assembly ready, there were no apparent problems, defects or paint issues (blue model), except for one of the leg mounts being bent (the mount where the long bolt passes through to secure legs, it was easily bent back). After assembly I tested the grill (after the initial burn in) and it worked very well.Assembly was very straight forward, however, I observed deficiencies in build and component quality:a) There must have been a sale on for mini rivets somewhere in Asia, because someone used a whole bag of them on this grill, and that bag must have weighed all of 0.5 oz. even thought there are oodles of them. Notably they are used on hinges and handles (!!) which create problems such as the potential for bending of sheet metal around hinges, the potential for rivets popping out and the lid falling off with repeated use, and lastly the potential for handles to fall off while lifting the grill (bit of a safety issue here for sure).Remedy? Most likely will drill out the rivets and remount handles and hinges using nuts, bolts, and washers.Remedy for the potential for sheet metal bending when opening lid? Might mount a chain between the grill base and lid to act as a hard stop for the lid. Instead, one could add a plate metal strip on the inside of the lid/base (drilled for the nuts and bolts) to provide support for the sheet metal at the hinges. Instead, Coleman could use heavier duty hinges with appropriate mounting hardware.b) The lid handle was found to be loose! Four self tapping sheet metal screws are used to secure this handle, it was loose. I checked to see if I could tighten them and three of the four could not be tightened, i.e. had stripped the metal during manufacturing and loosened back and forth during shipping, so the handle remained loose. Note that the screws used during manufacture taper off quickly so that they would be likely to give rise to a loose handle.Remedy? Larger diameter sheet metal screws to replace the originals (although there is potential for wear once again), or nuts and bolts if accessible.c) The wheels wobble. I appreciate that without having wheel bearings ($$$) there has to be some play on the axle to allow them to spin, but 1/8″ to 3/16″ is quite a lot when axle/wheel bore tolerances are not too tight.Remedy? Add another washer during each wheel assembly to reduce (but not eliminate) play.d) The slide out trays! What the heck kind of design is this? Surely the friction of the tray and sliding mechanism is enough to prevent the trays ejecting on their own under gravity/transportation? On first try to pull out the wing trays one of the springs flipped out of its channel and prevented me from pushing the tray back in (the springs are essentially bent wires under compression, more like an open safety pin rather than a springy spring spring). I tried to fix the spring wire and put the screw to which it was wrapped around back in, at which time I discovered that the screw hole was stripped and this had previously led to the spring popping out of the channel every time it experienced resistance. I ditched the spring and I am sure the others will follow, all 7 of them, with very little functional value.Remedy? Manufacturer remedy would be good, how about a lever to lock them in place for transit, a sprung lever and notch the edge of the trays for the open and closed positions. Nothing at all would also likely work because of friction, just remove the springs and all the screws that hold them – they are just an annoyance waiting to happen.Possible mod? The wings are short and retract into the main body of the grill flush. However, the grill handles extend the width of the grill, therefore one could use larger wings that close flush with the handles. Some kind of stainless steel wing? I had to read further into the manual to find out why I had an extra part – two circles widely separated by wire attached to a chain which was screwed (not riveted) into a leg, it took me a while – I scratched my head and scraped the barrel. Now I know there are folk out there who think this is a great idea, but, umm, well I suppose it is nice, but I am happy to singe the hair on my hand to light a grill and I know when it is lit by the smell, plus my hands look 10 years younger without the fur. But what if all I have is a (short) lighter, a lighter without gas, or some flint? It is not like there are long matches, long gas lighters, paper that can be rolled and lit to light the thing?Remedy? Lose it. Put that money into replacing the rivets (or at least using larger rivets), better securing the handle screws and so on. Fix the slide out trays.OVERALLWhile I found problems with the grill’s construction and the quality of the mounting hardware used, I like this grill. Had I paid $320 for this, I might have returned it and looked elsewhere for a solution, but at $264 it left me on the fence as I know that the problems and potential problems described above could be remedied now and in the future as they arise, however, it is possible that any proactive alterations may also void warranty.The grill has several redeeming qualities. Purchased this at the $398.00 price point. Never heard of the brand before. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the build and materials. Very rich-looking. The lighted knobs are cool. Assembles easily with clear instructions. Most of the screws are already pre-threaded so the parts just slot together and then you tighten the screws. Screwdriver was the only tool required. Solid packaging so everything arrived in good condition. A little bit of Styrofoam but mostly recyclable cardboard. Took about an hour to assemble. Recommend.
Gift was loved by grandpa. Easy assembly my husband did it himself in less than 30 minutes. The knob’s are great for night grilling and I suggest getting a cover to keep it looking new
Two reviewers stated the grate could go in the dishwasher but the manual says do NOT put it in the dishwasher. Also, it says no water inside the grill so it uses a ton of paper towels to clean the inside after cooking burgers. Overall, this is an excellent grill both aesthetically and functionally, though we have have only had this grill for 3 weeks. The stainless steel grates and burners are fantastic and feel like they are built to last. The infrared side burner is a great perk of the grill, especially if you like a nice sear on your steak like we do. It gets hot! There are plenty of hooks to hang your tools, both on the inside of the cabinet and on the outside of either side panel. We have not used the rotisserie yet, but are looking forward to exploring this feature.The negatives are: It is a bit on the expensive side for the value. At the very least, Napoleon should include a grill cover for that price point!!! However; setting cost aside, my biggest gripe is the assembly guide is not very helpful (and may not fully represent the current model of the grill). I was able to figure it out by watching videos on youtube. Attaching the side panel with the infrared burner was the most challenging part for me — you need to have the proper wrench to tighten the screws despite the fact that there are ridges for a Phillips screwdriver/drill.
Last BBQ I had had two burners, heated faster and lasted 6 years then started to fall apart, time will tell with this one, will review again at a later date.As I predicted have to run at high to get same results as the previous one with two burners. Takes longer to cook frozen burgers. Will take time to adjust my cooking to get same results.
This grill replaced the earlier Charbroil tabletop version 2 y ago, that was rusting out after 20 plus years camping. Worked fine for 2y, then This year it just wouldn’t light. I found that it would light if I pressed the adjuster knob down, but as soon as I let go and it sprang up, the flow of propane stopped. I found a set screw under the sticker/label (see photo) and this set screw adjusts the amount of gas flow at the different knob settings. It works great again. Charbroil should show this on their manuals, instead of just telling you to buy a new regulator.
Worked well at first and definitely gets hot. Now the regular doesn’t control anything and once turned on just stays on high. Haven’t tried to fix it yet, but I did fix where regulator mounts. Had to add a washer to keep it from being so loose. As is, is definitely a fire hazard and should be an easy fix from factory. For the price it isn’t worth my time to return it so I’ll do some minot adjusting and just fkn send it!
I’ll follow up with a subsequent review but have to say, It’s been a pleasure to grill on something much smaller. I’m in the midst of downsize and simplify so gave my 10 year old Charbroil 4 burner w/side burner to my son. And that too has been well cared for.Upside, it’s a better fit for me, I do plan to add a thermometer just because I can.Downside – not really as I’m a mechanic and this came without assembly instructions so I downloaded from their website. Also the parts are not numbered so it’s a bit of read the directions and understand square peg in the square hole nothing more than basic arithmetic. Otherwise, find someone who canMy only recommendation grabbing some Lock-tite so the screws don’t back out over time. I noted Char-Broil already applied this on some preinstalled screws, would have been nice if they included a small tube but it’s a minor expense.Took me about two hours to fully assemble, then again, working from home, I took my time even read the directions…I know, bad guy thing. In the end, a few extra hardware and some part not identified so all is good.
I’d give the grill a 10 but can’t due to a couple of significant design flaws. Still, its a big step up from a Weber, to get the same features in one of those one must purchase a much larger grill at a hefty price increase! This grill is well made and has lots of features at a reasonable price! Check out the Napoleon smoker chip box!The worst is the the drip pan assembly. The concept is excellent and very similar to Weber grills. Unfortunately, unlike Webers the Napoleon version didn’t turn out well. The tray is difficult to slide and worse, easily dislodges nearby wiring. And unlike Webers the smaller grease pan isn’t easy to access. I relocated the wiring but haven’t found a way to make the pan slide smoothly.Next, when walking on our wood deck, the ‘flavor bars’ not above burners rattle! They’re are not held in the fire box the same as those over the burners. Since the ‘bars’ are interchangeable, haven’t found a way to secure them.The last is just irritating, unlike Webers the cabinet doors only open to 90 degrees.
I’ve been using Webber Grills for the past twenty some years. I used Cheap grills before that but they would only last me about one year, (I grill a lot.) Webber grills cost about three times more than other grills but they last five times longer and give a much better grilling experience. This is my first Genesis, I had been using Spirit Grills. It’s like moving up from the Chevrolet to a Lincoln. I also like being able to monitor the temperature from my phone. I make chicken and I like to grill it slowly for at least an hour. Before, I had to check it every 5 minutes and use a raise platform. Now I can cook right on the grill using the outside burners and only turn it every fifteen minutes. I will warn the buyer that putting this thing together is not for the faint of heart. The instructions could have been more detailed. It took me two days but only about five hours of actual work time.
I bought this grill to replace one I had gotten from Home Depot.So far, it seems to be a quality grill, nice heavy gauge construction where it matters.One thing that could be improved is a lower range of heat control, but that seems common on all these types of grills now.I took this grille on a camping trip and two of the bolts that hold the folding legs on came loose.The other 2 bolts had lock nuts on them that didn’t come off, but I just went to Ace hardware and bought 4 longer bolts with lockouts and replaced all the bolts. They are 1/4 inch x 1 1/2 bolts.
My friends have the same grill and is works amazing for steaks, burgers, chicken and so on right from the grill grates. I bought right before a tubing trip where we are going to cook breakfast. There was practically zero heat exchange reaching the pan of eggs which was our main breakfast item.I ended up taking the grates out and putting the frying pan straight on the burners. It got the job done, but wasn’t a perfect solution either.It’s a great grill for tailgating, camping and portable uses. Its also a good grill for occasional small family backyard usage especially if you live in a townhouse.Con – Its EXPENSIVE. Compared to a similar priced “Backyard grill”, it fails in comparison with features and usage,but they are for different intended usages. Just accept that you are paying for portability. Accepting that then you have a good, kinda appropriately priced that’s not a bargain, but not bad either.
I really wanted to give this 5 stars but I couldn’t because of 1 issue. No drip pan. Or maybe design flaw. I bought this grill to replace my old one that I use weekly at my Farmer’s Market booth. I upgraded because I needed a larger grill since business had increased. I called the Megamaster the Cadillac of grills, compared to the basic camp grill I had. I always use a grill mat with this grill and it cooks evenly and great. Here are the main features and what I found out after using it for a while:The lid is connected and you can raise it up and it stays in position. My old grill I had to take the top off and find a place to put it without burning anything.The top small rack attached to the lid is pure genius. I use it to grill/toast buns and as a warmer.The legs are wide and sturdy and fold in flat.The thermometer is a nice touch, but I don’t think mine works because it has never gone above 200 degrees.The handles are strong and well made and connected solidly. With my old grill, the plastic handles snapped off.The one reason why this grill didn’t get 5 stars is because of the opening on the bottom where grease leaks out. I lined the bottom of the inside of the grill with foil to help with cleanup since I use it weekly. I grill bacon and it has a lot of greasy residual that runs out on the table and ends up being a greasy mess. I have started to put a 9×11 metal sheet tray underneath the grill and empty it when it fills up. It’s a pain but the other great things about the grill still make it a great buy.
After about two and half months of good performance our grill now fails to heat up…it only gets up to between 250 and 350 degrees. We’ve tried all the suggestions to solve the problem to no avail…we now think the regulator has broke. How do we get a new regulator?Update: I contacted their customer support line and they are sending a new regulator, part #69507. I think this is a different regulator than what comes originally with the grill, one you use with a larger tank. I can’t find their part number (69507) online. I am upgrading my rating from one star to 4 based on their customer support, even though I do not know if the new regulator will work or not.
This is a nice little grill. If assembling things isn’t your forte, this might not be for you. It’s not that hard to assemble, but does take some time. It’s not as compact or easy to store as I’d like. The two handles on either side are somewhat bulky, and the lid handle is very bulky. It sticks out enough to make it difficult to pack. For the price, it’s pretty good. It got hot quickly and maintained temperature pretty well. If you car camp and have plenty of room, this is a good option. If you’re limited on space, I’d seek other options
Great table top grill. Hose is a little short. Tempature hard to manage with lid shut even with one burner on low. Burns and over cooks every thing. Leaks juices on tabletop. Basically hard to keep clean
We are full time RVing, used this grill to give us a way to cook outside. I replaced unit gas line connection with another to allow us to plug directly into our outside RV connection.Plenty of room to cook for two of us.A word of caution, the cut edges of vents are very sharp. When wiping out grease from inside, I sliced off the tip of my knuckle, OUCH.
This is my third Weber gas grill and by far the best. Our new home came with natural gas outlet on the patio no more propane tanks to fill. The heat is naturally distributed to the three burners plus one sear burner Genesis, heats up to over 600 degrees in less than 15 minutes. Love the grates, wheels and larger shelves on this unit vs. the Spirit I previously owned. By this grill!

Bought this out of necessity having been a lump charcoal person all my life. This grill is of good quality and went together easily. Directions fine. Sturdy packing. Several points: two burners are a must to replicated the charcoal experience – building fire to one side, etc. The temp control is nicely fine-tuned. Two big checks.My experience: line it with foil before using and save some mess. And deploy the flare guards. Keep drippy meats position directly over them while cooking. Chicken thighs and pork ribs, a must. I’m really warming up to this thing.
I read the reviews before I bought this and they are wrong. It was well packaged and easy to assemble with a Phillips screwdriver. Everything needed was in the box. Someone said it didn’t have a drip pan, but it does. Cool little unit! The one burner is actually more like two because it wraps around and offers more even heat. And being portable, awesome for camping or tailgating. Way better than the the one I replaced. I would totally recommend this grill!
Grill is a little heavier than I expected but very pleased with how the grill cooks the food.

Great portable bbqNot much control over temperature but don’t really need it. Keep lid shut for higher temps. The legs are a bit wobbly so be careful when loading it up
Easy assembly. I bought to tailgate at an NFL game and it was perfect for what I used it for. No issues at all. Nice that it disassembles and has wheels. Not very heavy at all. Recommend.
Works great except that the igniter never worked.
This is the first grill I have owned. I purchased it mainly because of the brands reputation, features, and it’s small footprint. The only disappointment has been the not so equal distribution of heat. It seems to get much hotter towards the back, which causes a noticeable difference in cook rate from food placed elsewhere. It hasn’t made an impact, as we generally rotate food around to ensure everything is getting grilled at the same rate and for the most part we grill smaller meals so we simply place food in the same area to allow everything to cook at the same rate. The griddle size is large enough to grill for 4-6 people. It’s very easy to clean and the side tray offers enough space to place seasoning, serving platters (loading and unloading) and a hot pad for handling that cast iron or griddle. Despite the different temp zones it is very easy to control the overall temp using the single adjustment knob. Most propane grills I’ve worked with in the past it’s 500 degrees or nothing so this was a big win in my opinion. Because of its size it takes no more than 5 minutes to clean and that’s a full griddle scrape and internal debris cleaning. Love how accessible the propane is and how easy the rig is to pop up and breakdown. We have limited patio and storage space so this unit fits well and meets our every need. I would recommend this grill for small families, homes where space is limited, and the glampers.
A little harder to assemble than the grills of the past but very nice looking.
Loving the grill and ease of use and transport. Perfect for tailgating, camping, and taking it to small parties. Great Weber quality. The cast iron grates offer a terrific sear with sexy grill marks 😉
Not sure if this is the samefor all these products, but ours had no instructions other then the pack of hardware referring to part numbers that were not labeled. Took 3 hours, 500 pieces…. we even had to assemble the piezo ignition system😳. Other then that it’s been a good grillfor the money.
I bought this grill for my husband to use on our boat. We used it all summer. It heats up quickly and cooks great (although make sure you have a lighter with you to light it!). The stand is adequate and we haven’t had any problems using it on the boat. I took off one star because the adapter that attaches to the propane tank came off, however, we’re able to hook it back on to use the grill.
came bent where the box took a hit made the decision to try to bend it instead of sending it back; that part worked out. BUT THERE WERE NO INSTRUCTIONS NO PICTURES NOTHING on line there was nothing of that model. what a job.
This is a great compact grill. It gets the job done and you really don’t need to spend any 3xtra $, unless you want something grand and fancier than this! The grill looks good and works really well. We spent around 45 mins to set this up!
Very reliable grill. A bit difficult to clean and very time consuming to assemble (I’ve assembled two of them).

My OLD grill fell apart on Thanksgiving Day and I had to patch it up to roast my Large Chicken… it is a 3 year old Char-Broil that I use a lot.** I purchased this one because the cost of everything is rising , I haven’t assembled and used this yet, I will put it into use when the patch job on the old one fails . Probably in the Spring. I am giving this review based on my use of the product experience I have had over the years. I have always bought Char-Broil.The Price point on this unit is a great value, Its the smaller size because I usually only cook 3 or 4 burgers or a couple chicken breasts on it at one time…. Sometimes I like to cook Fish or Fry chicken in a cast iron skillet and not have the odors in the house So the side burner works well for me. If this one gives me as good a service as the last one , Ill be happy. So for me this is a good deal !!!
Like the portability and easy set up.Almost all tabletop grills this size are charcoal. Heat on this grill is not as intense as a charcoal grill of similar size. I wouldn’t recommend it for searing any type of meats.Works well for slow cook grilling.
I wanted something small and easy to assemble. This was perfect for both.I put it together which was very easy. Then I bought an adapter for a larger propane tank which again was easy. First thing was a burger and it came out perfectly. As you can see from the picture, I decided to make chicken wingettes and drumetts which took up the entire grill. So here is the issue, the center if the grill, where the burner is , gets very hot and cooks perfectly. The chicken on the outside was raw so I had to keep moving the chicken around so that all pieces were cooked, in the middle of the BBQ.All in all, I should have bought a regular sized, 2 or 3 burner grill but I’ll live with this for now. This Is perfect for travel. Folds up so small so take it to the park, camper or ball game.
We bought this to cook up meat samples at farmer’s markets, and it was the perfect size. Could not have worked out better.
I like the fact that the grill is portable. The legs fold up to lock the top in place so it can be easily ported. It was easy to put together. The instructions were clear and easy. Took 15 minutes top to assemble. The inside heat resistant shield was a little difficult to attach because the screws have to be loose and then tightened with a good degree of pressure to keep it from popping up since it slides down on the screws. Cleaning the bottom is a challenge if liquid drips through because the heat shield is screwed on. It will have to be removed in order to clean any drippings. Appeared to distribute the heat well. The temperature seemed to be consistent regardless of which level i had it on, low or high.
The unit holds the temp very well as long as you keep the lid closed. It does recover nicely after you close the lid. The cooking surface could be easier to clean if it were polished a little more. The only change I would make is to the folding feet. I would add rubber pads to the bottom of the feet and to the sides of the feet that are down when folded. Definitely goes in the “would buy again” column.
