I have been using rice cookers for 15 years, both to cook rice and grains. Here is what I have learned:- Lesson 1: As a millennial, I don’t have the attention span to cook rice/grains on the stove without something terrible happening. Rice-cookers main feature is that they “know” the cooking time, and switch to “warm” when needed. (Does not mean you can leave a rice-cooker on warming for hours, but means you can get caught in deep thought with no dire consequences.)- Lesson 2: There is no reason to buy a rice-cooker that is more than $50. Indeed, the convenience of a rice-cooker comes in large part from being able to toss it in the dishwasher. More expensive (and producing better tasting rice) devices are just not worth the hassle in my opinion.- Lesson 3: Most cheap rice cookers either use an aluminum or teflon-coated pot. No matter the convenience for anti-stick purposes, there is good evidence that suggests that neither material is ideal to store food. In particular, if ever you use something a bit acidic (like tomato juice, or lemon juice) in the pot, it can exacerbate the amount of aluminum that leeches into your food.After years of using a cheap Continental rice-cooker I bought when I first moved here (see it here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KEJQEC), it broke one day, and I finally decided to do something about the worrisome aluminum pot.You would not believe how impossible it is to find a rice-cooker that meets all the above criteria: Essentially, when you are looking for non-Teflon/non-aluminum alternatives, you get a LOT of weird products: From “ceramic coating” (which is just a buzz word), to “steel” that isn’t steel, it is very difficult to find something that is inert.This product fulfills absolutely all the marks. I was very concerned by the claims that the “plating” comes off.First, that has not been my experience—I have used this rice-cooker about a dozen times now, and there have been no issues. It is worth remarking that there are DIFFERENT kinds of stainless steel. This is advertised as being in 304 stainless steel: This is an austenitic stainless steel, which is not magnetic (magnets won’t stick to it and that is normal), that is very heat resistant, but will have a sensibility to prolonged exposure to SALT. Perhaps reviewers who had trouble with the plating left salt water in the pot.Second, it is worth noting that this device is both sold from Amazon.com but also from a multitude of third-party sellers. It seems like a lucrative scam to sell a $40 stainless steel rice cooker, with some cheaper pot. If you pay attention, you will notice that all rice-cookers of this kind look VERY similar, down to the specific moldings and components used.I included some photos:- The first one shows my pot in use, cooking 1 cup of quinoa in 2 cups of water.- The second shows the quinoa as it is being removed from the pot—not that I used olive oil to avoid sticking.- The third picture shows the difference between my previous Continental rice-cooker (lid with triangular grip) and the Aroma rice-cooker (lid with rectangular hold). You will notice that the diameter of the air duct is twice the size. This is why this device is slightly more prone to “sputtering”.- The fourth picture shows the weird corrosion of a typical aluminum pot, here from my Continental rice-cooker. This is what I was hoping to avoid by buying a model with a stainless steel pot.Here are a few tips for using this:- First, pick a model for 2.5x the largest amount you intend to cook. I never put more than 2 cups of grain in my 6 cup rice-cooker, and I *never* have any problem with sputtering. (Two things that affect sputtering are the amount of rice + liquid in the pot; and also how much starch is in the liquid, that is, you can also rinse your grain as suggested in these reviews).- Second, rub a paper towel with a bit of olive oil inside the pan, before you pour the grain and liquid. It may feel confusing to add a bit of oil before pouring liquid, but the oil adheres to the pot, and ensures a clean removal of the cooked grain (see photo for evidence).Overall, I am very, very happy with this rice-cooker. I am glad I did not let a few worrisome reviews discourage me from giving it a try. The rice has a good texture and flavor.The removable inner lid is not stainless steel but aluminum. Magnets don’t stick to it. It needs to be removed for cleaning after each use.It takes 1h 15min to cook 1 cup of short-grain brown rice.It takes 1h 20min to cook 1.5 cup of short-grain brown rice.The low 500W might account for the slow cooking times.

Preface: I’m on a quest for the perfect, reasonably priced rice cooker. Sadly this is not it the one for me. My family eats white, sticky rice every day, so I’m looking for a rice cooker that looks good on the counter and not only makes tasty rice, but also keeps it warm and soft for days. My old Panasonic was retired after 25 years. It was replaced with a Zojirushi NS-TSC18 which made tastier rice, but after a few months, it started drying out rice on the keep warm setting. I tried going back to a basic Zojirushi with no bells and whistles (Zojirushi NS-RPC18FJ), but I realized that a micom (microcomputer) rice cooker does actually make rice with better taste and texture.As for the Cuckoo CR-0675F | 6-Cup (Uncooked) Micom Rice CookerPROS:- cooks rice well- keeps rice warm without drying it out- high quality non-stick finish on cooking pan- versatile menu options- compact design- attractive appearance (important since mine lives on the counter)- affordably pricedCONS:- push button on front (the whole unit slides back when you push the button)- top-heavy lid (in order to keep footprint small, electronics are in the lid. I bought this little rice cooker to keep the peace between my hubby and myself. He likes his oatmeal with fruit and I like mine plain Jane. Well this little cooker cooks my oatmeal 10 whole minutes faster than his. Lol. I do have to say that you need to use the lifts for the oatmeal or it might overflow. Rice doesn’t need it. My husband now makes the rice in mine as it cooks it fast. There are just two things that might some customers might not like: number 1. The machine doesn’t beep when it’s done and 2. The machine will not turn off by itself. You have to manually unplug it. My husbands bigger rice maker does that. Love my machine. It’s perfect for our tiny kitchen. I’m off to buy a second one for my husband.

Love this rice cooker! Cooks a little soggy or dry sometimes if u don’t have the exact right amount of water. Don’t use their recommended amount of water at the numbered lines. I has to go a little below to make sure it wasn’t soggy! But otherwise cute and compact and a def space saver for if u have limited space and don’t want a unit sitting on the counter. I bring it out just to cook and back in my cupboard it goes when I’m done.

My wife and I don’t eat rice very much, but when we do, we have cooked rice in a regular pot with a lid. We like rice so not sure why we we don’t eat more of it. I bought this rice cooker to give it a try. It arrived at 4pm, I unboxed it, a quick wash, and put in one cup of rice and one cup of water. I had watched YouTube videos so I pushed the start button. I realized I had some frozen vegetables in the freezer, got these out quickly and put them in the top steamer area. My wife was not too pleased having another appliance on the counter – but it’s fairly small. The rice cooked a little too long as there was burned rice in the bottom of the pan. Not much as 95% was fine. It tasted fine and the vegetables were great. I was worried about cleanup but to my surprise, the dark Brown baked-on rice came right off the bottom of the pan! Based first experience, I think I’ll keep it, and I’ll be trying oat meal this morning.

I got this because it has a steamer basket. It’s a VERY small steamer basket, so we’ve only used it for some frozen mixed veggies so far. It was very good! The rice instructions made perfect rice, and I was skeptic because my family has only used the finger trick to measure rice water. But I was very pleasantly surprised. 🙂 It’s also very easy to clean!The only big con I have, and it IS a big one: the keep warm setting. After dinner, I found my rice is actually cooking on the keep warm setting. It became dry and the bottom was crusty. There was even bits of crunchy rice. I ate one bowl of leftover rice, but had to throw approx one more bowl of rice out because it was horribly hard and crunchy. I’m immediately putting it into a container now.It is also pretty small of a size. It’s just me and fiancee in our house, so it’s perfect for us. But I can’t imagine this will fit enough rice for a full family.However, considering my previous rice cooker was probably way more expensive than this one, I find it well worth my money.

The media could not be loaded.  I was moving alone and didn’t bring any of my old pots with me. So I was looking for something inexpensive to help me make quick meals while I decided on new pots. I had no high hopes for this really, but boy was I wrong! On my first try, I missed a couple of ingredients. Still, it came out exactly the same as if I had made it in a pot! It only took me 10 steps less than usual! Put your rice in, add water and extra ingredients, close it, press cook and BAM! It will shut itself off in 28 minutes and switch to warm to keep your food warm! I love that because sometimes I get distracted and forget I’m cooking. I also tried pasta in this thing… GAMECHANGER! This is small, but it allows me to make enough for 2 full meals, so I can save some for later.Also… it’s super CUTE & CHIC and easy to clean! ✨ There’s no doubt this will become a permanent appliance in my apartment! Also, I love that it comes with a sturdy plastic measuring cup and spoon. If you’re on the fence… don’t hesitate, BUY IT!

The product was easy to use and clean. The only issue I’ve noticed is that the numbers on the measuring cup don’t correspond to the water lines in the rice cooker at all. This isn’t too big of a problem for me because I know the rice to water ratio, but if you’re unfamiliar with the rice you’re using, there is an element of experimentation that comes with this product(including cooking time). Overall, this is a good purchase for people who don’t need to make large amounts at one time. Good for single and double servings.

This rice cooker.. is a member of the family. I originally got it because it came in yellow, but I quickly fell in love with it and we are a team in the kitchen. I love how well it cooks rice and the warming feature is great for when I forget about it.However.. do not get this if you are planning to feed a family. I live alone, with my only roommate being this rice cooker, and it just feeds us with just a little extra for fried rice the next day.I also would not describe this product as versatile… it really isn’t big enough to make more than what it advertises it for. Stick to rice.
