TL:DR Summary — I broke my Rowenta DZ5080 by dropping it. Loved that iron, wanted an exact or better (if even possible) replacement. Initially bought the more expensive Rowenta DW9080 because it was top of the line. Did not like it at all, returned it to Amazon and bought this Rowenta DW8080 instead and LOVE it, find that it performs just the same as the DZ5080 did. The DW9080 had inconsistent steam production, delay in producing steam, would not truly “auto” steam, and when the steam finally decided to start coming out it was not any more than the DZ5080 or DW8080. I would not recommend the DW9080 to anyone, but would recommend the DW8080 to everyone. If you have only ever used cheap irons, you’ll honestly be blown away by what you’re missing with an iron like the DW8080. It has awesome, immediately, consistent, plentiful steam production, and a great design to hold and use. Buy it!!Long version…A little background… I had always used the cheap walmart irons that everyone is used to. Never enough steam so constantly pressing the burst button, takes forever to iron things, might not get all the wrinkles out entirely, etc. Honestly, I didn’t know what I was missing until we registered for and received a Rowenta Focus DZ5080 iron for our wedding. I was immediately blown away by how much steam came out effortlessly and how quickly and effectively it could iron. I actually enjoyed and looked forward to ironing, even a couple years after initially receiving it. It wasn’t as annoying/daunting of a task.Fast foward to a few weeks ago, when I accidentally bumped the ironing board and knocked our DZ5080 onto our concrete laundry room floor and cracked the water tank, rendering it unusable. I was very upset because I loved that iron, and immediately went to Amazon to order the exact same model. What I learned is that that model was discontinued and replaced with the DW5080. It might sound silly, but I didn’t like the color of the DW5080 (ugly brown instead of blue) so I didn’t immediately order it and decided to see what other offerings Rowenta had. (If I had seen the DZ5080 still for sale I’d have ordered it immediately with zero extra research). After searching around, I ordered the DW9080 hoping it would be like our DZ5080 only even better, because after all it had 30% more steam. After the first day, I did not like the iron one bit and immediately ordered this DW8080 instead, which I absolutely love again, just like our DZ5080 (it performs very similarly to how the DZ5080 did, suppoedly has more “burst” of steam when you burst it, but I don’t really use that function much and the eyeball test says the difference isn’t dramatic). See my DW9080 review if you would like more information on why I did not like that iron.What I love about the DW8080 is that immediately after lowering the iron, by the time you touch it to your clothing, it is produces it’s full amount of steam, which is honsetly a lot. The entire surface of the iron produces steam evenly, and it is enough to iron extremely quickly. What used to take 10 passes with a cheap walmart iron literally is done in one pass with this iron, no matter how wrinkled the clothing is. I’ve had some clothing that somehow dried all balled up and was a terrible wrinkled mess that, to be honest, would not have ironed out perfectly with my previous irons no matter how long I spent with it. But with the DZ5080 and now this DW8080, it not only irons it out perfectly, but in only a pass or two. It’s amazing what this amount of steam does to set-in wrinkles. I never would have believed it or expected it if not for trying it myself. I think it warrants mention that I have never had an issue where it is leaking water either from the steam holes, the water fillup hole, or anywhere else.So, long story short, I absolutely love this iron and would recommend it to everyone without hesitation. That being said, there are a few annoyances I have with this model that I will mention here:-Probably the biggest one, and it’s not THAT big of a deal, is that it is hard to see the level of the water because the back face is a dark plastic that is not very translucent. I have to really hold it up to the light to see where the water is at. With the DZ5080 before this, it was a lighter colored plastic that allowed me to see the water level from across the room. Not a dealbreaker, but it’s annoying and there is no reason for it IMHO.-This happened with my DZ5080 also, but what happens is if you set the temp of the iron too high for your clothing, it would make the face of the iron instantly melt the fuzz on the surface of the clothing (VERY slightly, not NEARLY enough to ruin the clothes AT ALL, but) enough to have a few tiny fibers stick to the face of the iron. Before I go on, let me be clear that what seems to be happening is that that fuzz that sort of “sticks out” of the clothing, is what melts — the clothing itself is not damaged in any way. Anyway, what this does when it happens is it makes the iron not glide as smoothly, making it more difficult to iron because the iron kind of feels “sticky” in a way, and wants to pull the clothing around instead of glide over it. To further emphasize that this isn’t that big of a deal, the first time it happened I actually didn’t even really notice and continued using it for a few months. Eventually I came to think it wasn’t gliding as smoothly as it did and invesigated it a bit more. I see now that they make special sole plate cleaner which I may try with my DW8080, but with the DZ5080 all I did was keep a small piece of 0000 steel wool near the iron boarding and periodically would clean the sole plate with it if it happened. This worked great and would remove the melted on fibers quickly and easily and more importantly, could be done while the iron is hot (if you’re careful), which allows uninterrupted ironing if you accidentally set the iron too hot and have this issue. It was only with very particular shirts of mine, so it must be the particular fabric they are made of, because 99% of items, I could set the iron above the recommended temp and use it on them even though you’re not supposed to, but on this particular brand/fabric of shirt, it would have this issue if I set it too hot (where it melted the invisible fuzzies that are on the surface of the fabric). But ultimately, if you don’t set your iron too hot for your clothing, and you won’t have this issue.At the end of the day, I highly recommend this iron and believe anyone would be thrilled with it. There *might* be better irons out there somewhere, but I can’t imagine in what ways they would be much better, and after taking a risk even within the same company to get a “better” iron and getting burned, I’m quite happy to stay with this tried and true iron.

…it sure paid off this time!! I have been ironing since I was 7 y.o. Many will and many won’t remember men’s white cotton shirts being starched and then stored in the fridge, to be ironed “later”. Well I grew up in that era. Water sprinkler bottle and heavy electric iron era. That’s how I learned to iron. I LOVE to iron. Weird, I know but I’ve learned over the years there are others like me.I strongly took the advise of the Amazon reviewer who recommended this iron as it is a Rowenta made in Germany and not in China. I can’t thank this person enough as I now own the cadillac of irons. Well, at least it is to me.My 20 year old Braun Saphir-Jet steam iron finally gave up last week. I panicked. How was I ever going to find another iron that I would like better!? So off I went to research every iron known to Planet Earth, under the price of 75.00. Little did I know just what sort of task I was taking in. I had ironed with a Rowenta in several craft classes I have taken over the years but felt they were more then I wanted to spend for an iron. Take in to account that I paid in the $25.00 range for my 20 year old Braun and you can imagine my chagrin when I saw the avg. price for a Rowenta was $80+. There was no way I was going to pay nearly $100. for AN IRON! I set the cap at $75. max, thinking it wouldn’t be a Rowenta.Well I found it, it’s a Rowenta, and if I could I’d marry this steam iron! For reals. I’d marry it if I could!PROS:- price of $65.00- heats quickly- heats evenly- multiple steam vents and I mean multiple. Just look at the pictures displayed of the product.- literally lifts the iron a bit when you press the steam button (my favorite!)- easy to fill with distilled water (although it states in the directions to use tap water but not softened or scented water, I have softened water so I can not make a judgement call on how the two act in the longevity of the iron. I’m just saying it’s really easy to fill it.)- steam button is large, easy to see and manipulate- perfect weight of the iron. Not too heavy and not too light.- retro look (yes, I know, it has nothing to do with functionality BUT if you like the look of a cool retro iron well then you’ll love this one!)- slick easy glide surface (bear in mind I don’t use spray starch or sizing and iron mostly 100% cotton so I can not attest to how the iron feels on a sprayed fabric)- temperature dial big enough to see but located where you can’t change it accidentally. You know, the accident of nudging it too hot while ironing a delicate piece only to find out too late that this happened and you have a singed item.- nice long cord- stands upright substantially, meaning it doesn’t fall over as soon as you place it in an upright position while ironing- nice feel to the handle and manipulation of the iron to both my smaller hand and my husbands larger handCONS – NONE, ABSOLUTELY NONE.I have only had my new Rowenta iron for a few days and I am so hopeful our marriage is a long successful one and that I continue to love it as much as I do while writing this review today. I do updates to my reviews and I will intermittantly update this review. I did purchase the extended warranty and I hope I don’t have to use it but I feel confident I can rely on Amazon to assist with SquareTrade should I have any issues with them.I highly highly highly recommend this Rowenta!!Update 4/14/18: Still the best iron I’ve ever purchased. I was concerned, based on the lower star rating reviews, that something would change at the 8 month point. Nope. Still just as good as the first time out of the box. I read the instructions carefully and followed the direction after each time I use distilled water in it, I dumped the remaining water out and leave the water cap open so that the water compartment can completely dry. Maybe that’s the reason for the spitting issues or leaking issues others have. Who knows. But it isn’t happening with mine nor any issues with the cord.UPDATE: September, 2019 – still LOVING my iron! This still remains the Holy Grail of Irons for me. I have ansolutely NO clue what the “Amazon Customer” comment means about “not using distilled water”. It’s the only type of water I’ve used…for 2 years now…without any issues whatsoever. I do pour any remaining water out after I am done with my ironing. Every. Single. Time. I honestly feel this is the key to longevity of appliances that utilize water. I empty all of the water from my standing (Jiffy) clothes steamer as well. 15 years later, I’m still using the steamer, with no issues either. Having used distilled water, or on occassion r/o wayer, in it the entire 15 years as well.

I don’t know if I am a certified customer, but I DID buy this iron from Amazon long ago.This is one seriously good buy that I have made. My mother thought I was nuts to spend this much on a steam iron, but this one really does what it is supposed to do and does it well. Now that I have it, I am really glad.My previous iron would turn off after a few minutes, leaving me constantly frustrated waiting for it to reheat after a quick trip to the sewing machine. This iron will stay hot. I do not know exactly how long, but after about one half hour or so it does beep to remind you that is still on. If you leave it turned on and facedown, it will beep after a few minutes.This iron really brings the heat, and it brings the steam as well, making short work out of yards of wrinkled cotton duck canvas, yet it has a delicate touch when turned to the “synthetic” or “silk” settings. This is a relatively heavy iron, so it does the work for you, not leaving you to push it into the fabric trying to get the effect you want.There are several accessories that you’ll want to have in addition to the iron. One is a delicate teapot or a small funnel for getting water into the steam tank opening. The steam tank holds a good bit of water, but it will overflow if you put too much in. No harm done; you just have some water to mop up. The tank holds about 300 mL, or a little over a cup. Be ready to refill often if you are using the steam setting.Another item you will want to have is an iron cleaning kit. This is an awesome iron, and it does not get sticky easily, but it is a fact of life that all irons will encounter gunk eventually, particularly if you are working with starch. I use a kit made by Rowenta, and it has held out for years. It has a tube of cleaning compound, a rag for applying it to the iron’s sole, and a last rag for polishing the sole of the iron when you are done cleaning. When you get the kit, read the directions for more specific details.The last tool I find handy is a hair mister. You will find one listed as a beauty product. It sprays a very fine mist on the fabric you are working on and you can control the density of the mist by the distance that you hold the tool. I was holding some fabric down with my left hand while I was ironing, and by accident I tipped the iron in the direction of my left hand. The burn I inflicted on my left index finger was something to behold. The day after the burn, it blistered to the point where the blister popped. At that point I kept it under a Band-Aid for a number of days until the burn healed enough to do without a Band-Aid. I almost nailed my thumb a little while later, but I put ice on it right away and I must not have gotten that much steam on it because it only hurt a little bit for a few days. Forgive me if this is too much information, but you really need to know. If you are left-handed, keep an eye on your right hand. While I am on the topic of hands, I might as well mention that this iron is ambidextrous. You may use it equally with either hand.If you are serious about your sewing, get this iron. If you are just starting out and you have the money, get this iron. If you have kids around, maybe get a different iron, one that turns off right away when you leave it. This includes most irons. If you are just starting out and you do not get this iron, eventually you might want to upgrade. I’m just saying.

The Steam Trower No Longer Works Practically Doesn’t Steam At All out Of Five Stars Good Zero Will Do For An 89.00 Iron That’s Awful I Hope Amazon Could Repairt It Or Replace It

The media could not be loaded.  The steamer no longer works. I bought in January and 7 months later it stopped working. It sucks I can longer return it. I’m still using the sprayer feature to get the wrinkles out but I miss the steam.

I love this iron. I take great care of it, doing everything stated in the care guide. This iron heats up very hot, which is great for quilting projects. The weight of the iron makes it feel well-made and of high quality. It gives off a lot of steam, has a self-cleaning mechanism, and automatically turns off after 30 minutes of not using. It is perfect for my needs and looks beautiful.I’m hoping this will last me much longer than my Rowenta irons have. (My previous Rowenta irons died on me after about 3 years. For the price I paid for the them, they should have lasted far longer!)This iron is about half the price of a Rowenta, and looks and feels like a professional iron. I’m very happy with my purchase so far.

Only had it for a few months. It first had a slight smell but gone. Works well and nice stream action. It gets hot for sure with the 1700 watts. Have to be careful not to burn clothes. The push water spray does not work already. One huge downside is the safety shutoff is 30 min that is way too long. You could start a fire with that much time. Others turn off in 5 or 10 min. Also a waste of energy too. They need to fix that. Otherwise seems to be good quality. If we get another one I will fine one with a quicker shutoff.

Bought this Rowenta Focus Steam 5280 on Prime Day to replace one of the two Rowenta Effective Comfort DW2070s purchased 6 years ago. Was able to clean out one of the old ones but discovered when disassembling that the other’s seal had deteriorated so much causing it to leak badly and could not be fixed.The two prior DW2070s are 1500 watt, 300 holes and marked “Made in China” while this new 5280 model is 1725 watt, 400 holes and marked “Made in Germany.” There is a remarkable difference in this new Focus compared to the Effective Comfort model.I can’t say if the German one is made better than the China one but it is a few cm longer and taller and just a tad heavier. It does produce much more steam probably because it has higher wattage and a hundred more holes in the sole-plate. One small annoyance that I can live with is a drop of water will seep out of the front spray nozzle only if I have used the mister and drip onto what I’m ironing. One drop is not the same as full-on streaks from leaking. I find I don’t need the mister hardly at all because of the better heat & steam.It does a much faster and better ironing job than the 6-year-olds so I’m delighted. When the other old Rowenta DW2070 ever dies I’ll certainly upgrade to these newer ones. Time will tell if it lasts as long, the new build seems just as good if not better.

I love Rowenta and prior to this new purchase, i owned the same Rowenta iron for 10-12 years before it just stopped working suddenly a few weeks ago. So after much research on irons I selected this Rowenta and am very happy with it so far. I’ve only used it a few times but it did a great job on my initial usage. The reviews helped a great deal and I will say that the reviewers who complained how difficult it was to gauge water levels were absolutely right. I was concerned about that, but it seems most irons have this problem unfortunately. Seems like such an obvious thing for Rowenta and other brands to realize and design accordingly. It was very easy to see with my last Rowenta iron but all other aspects of the iron are great so you learn to just deal with how to fill the tank. I liked the ease of filling the tank on my old iron much better too. this one, you have to lay the iron flat and pour water into opening which is most awkward to do without spilling. Again, it’s not enough of a reason to not buy the iron, but it is a negative. when you turn the iron on, there is an orange light and when it’s reached the proper heat, the light goes off and you’re ready to iron. Steaming was great…so far it did not drip water or do anything of concern but it does sort of sputter steam after ironing and placing iron upright. it’s not an issue, but something to be aware of. I haven’t used it on anything vertical yet, but plan to use it on a dressing table skirt and drapes and hoping it works as they say. I’ll update this review when I do. I was worried about the heaviness of these irons. I bought another Rowenta model and had to return it as it was huge and way too heavy for me. This iron is a bit heavier than my old one but not too heavy and ironing was very easy and pleasant.

I read lots of reviews that said it was hard to read the water level through the gray plastic but had no problem. Other reviews said it was hard to read the temperature control because of the red plastic cover but again, no problem. It was also mentioned it was hard to fill with water but again, no problem. I returned it because it has an automatic retracting cord and the base the cord goes into felt too bulky. The iron heated up quickly, had good steam, was a reasonable weight, and shut off when left for awhile. I liked it but it just felt too bulky even though the heated plate is a normal size. I mostly use an iron for quilting and sewing and am older (re the comments about being able to see components).

I bought this to replace a CHI Iron that the ceramic soleplate got gunked up and I couldn’t get it clean within a month. The directions on the CHI specifically said not to use an iron cleaner on the finish. I figure with this I could at least use an Iron cleaner to clean the sole plate. But with this iron, I don’t think the sole plate gets very hot which may be a turn off for some. But nothing has got stuck on on it yet. But the Steam coming out of this iron is amazing and everthing irons wonderfully as long as you use steam. I basically use steam for everything even if it says not to. (I test fabric first though). Once this iron does dies on me, I will probably get another one. I bought this 8 months ago and use the iron for my sewing business and my household ironing so it is used often.

I am a quilter and wasn’t sure this would be right for me but I love it. It is wonderful not to have to refill the water more than once a week.I can lightly press seams without using steam, and then when it’s time to really press a block, it does beautifully, and all seams lie sooo flat!The steam did smell a little off with the first tank of water but the odd smell has completely gone away. The instruction booklet warns of this.If I walk away and sew for too long without using it, I have to wait a minute or two for it to reheat, which is irritating. I wish I could preset the automatic off feature to an amount of time that I choose. I think it is preset st 8 minutes if memory serves.The amount of steady steam I can get more than makes up for this bother. My pressing of fabrics takes a fifth as long as it used to with my old Rowenta (without a tank)-that iron lasted me twenty years but finally began showing her age with small leaks of water on fabrics.This got good reviews and I actually love ironing now. I heartily recommend this product.

USMC (80-84). I’m fanatical about pressed clothes and yes I go through them. This is the best I’ve ever used. Has all the steam you’ll ever need. Sole plate is fantastic. Did’t know till I got that it was Made in the USA and the quality really shows. Pleased all around

Today is November 19, 2022 – I have just started to use this iron which was manufactured in China. I find that it is very modern with a digital display. It is heavy and can iron denim well. The iron has a Teflon-coated plate that does not snag delicate fabrics. I ironed sheer curtains with ease on the “satin” setting. The dial and the side controls made it is easy to change settings. The water reservoir was easy to see. A bonus is a plastic measuring cup with a lip with which to fill the water reservoir. If it lasts as long as my much more expensive Rowenta iron did, I will be very pleased with this brand. Time will tell.

I will never use an iron again! This is so easy, portable and does a great job! I’ve always avoided buying things that need to be ironed (knits are my friend 😬). No more. I tried a different brand. It didn’t have a separate, plastic reservoir like this one… Don’t do it. This one is great because you can hold it in any direction and not have to worry about it spilling out or shutting off because you’ve tipped too far, etc. This one’s perfect!
