I really like this timer. I actually got it to count how much time a pottery kiln was operating (at high power, and at low power) so I could figure out how much electricity was being used. For this purpose, I use two timers, both in count-up mode, but only one timer actively counting (the high-power timer, or the low-power timer, depending on how the kiln is set). A pottery kiln needs to operate for many hours, and this timer can count to more than 24 hours. But I also use the timer in the kitchen for various purposes. For example, sometimes I’m far enough away from the microwave that I can’t hear the beep when it’s done. I have a significant problem with the clip that holds it to the pan.THERMOMETER — two point calibration check with boiling tap-water, then ice water. Boiling measures 211F (vs 212F). Ice water bath yields 35F (vs 32F). So the device is tuned to higher temperatures, which makes sense for cooking. (I don’t have a method to check higher temps). The light seems to be only as part of the set point alarm – if only I could read the manual…Setting the alert-alarm point is easy.THE CLIP — so the sales material above explains how the thermometer will not damage you pan because the end is blunt. I’d say that is true – you’d have to work hard to gouge your Teflon with the tip of the thermometer. But the clip is a different story. I’ll do my best to explain. Imagine the vertical sides of the pan. Mine are thin aluminum material with Teflon nonstick on the inside. The clip is strong thin stainless steel, and so therefore is hardened. Compared to the hardness of Teflon and aluminum, the clip is like a knife, and the pan is like warm butter — if you scrape one against the other – the knife (clip) is going to win. The mere act of installing the clip onto the pan causes its outside sharp edges to slide along the inside of the pan – and since we are human and imperfect, every time they will member a little wiggle to one’s would-be perfectly straight motion. The edge of the clip is sharp enough that is gouged two streaks of Teflon off the inside surface. And on one side, it also cut oua sliver of the aluminum as well. If it just has a silicone pad it would be fine. But it doesn’t. It’s not the end of the world and I’ll Pulitzer something under it in the future to protect the pan. But dang…it is an expensive pan. Should be no real worries for cast iron or stainless pans, though is suspect it will scratch the stainless ones. Maybe. I was able to test the temp of the water coming out of the shower head easily even with the thin jet streams. Digital reading was also easy to see & the temp probe folded back into the body, which is good for storage.

This is my third one. The first one got sautéed. I gave the second one to my kid. My favorite thing about this thermometer is that the screen faces you with the temperature read right side up. You don’t have to twist your head sideways to read it, or poke from the side.
