Allow me to caveat this review by saying out of 700 plus reviews this is the most difficult to write as I despise having to use pesticides on our dogs. That said, we live in Tick and Flea central, surrounded by deep woods and our bulldogs are in every sense of the word family and we do whatever we must to protect them. That said if you’re reading these reviews your dog or dogs are your heart too and using these products is a difficult choice to make, but it’s one we have to make.On that note, it’s my hope the following information has some value for you.Frontline was first put into clinical trials in 1985 shortly after the discovery of it’s active ingredient Fipronil. To it’s credit Frontline has maintained the safest albeit not the most effective treatment for fleas and ticks. However, the more effective products pose a significantly greater risk to your dog.It’s a slippery slope, but in evaluating what’s best for your dog by providing the highest level protection with the lowest risk Frontline and FrontLine Plus are in my opinion your best bet.Most tick and flea products contain Permethrin which may also be listed as Lyclear or Nix as the active ingredient. Permethrin is a lethal neurotoxin that flows through the dogs circulatory system and flushes into every major organ – including the brain where it can do dire damage. Thousands of dogs die every year from Permethrin. Although the FDA has mandated a minimal use not to exceed 750PPM companies continue to ignore the guidline because it’s cheap and effective, and sadly it’s our dogs that pay the price.What makes Permethrin so dangerous is that it can’t distinguish between insects and mammals which of course includes human beings. It’s been known to be lethal to cats since the 1970’s. In fact it’s so deadly to cats that even a slight transfer from dog to cat can result in seizures, brain damage and death. Permethrin is volatile as well – meaning it’s airborne properties pose a threat to all who breath it in – humans included.Frontline on the other hand uses Fipronil. Fipronil is an insecticide.Like any chemical of this nature it can be lethal at too high of a dose. However studies including those from the Department of Environmental Conservation have determined time and time again that as long as the amount of Fipronil is at the correct dose for the weight and size of your dog toxicity is far easier to avoid and the product much safer for your dog. Unlike Premethrin, Fipronil is absorbed into the hair follicles and oil glands only. It is not absorbed into the dogs system nor is it volatile so you and your beloved pets and children can breath easy. The second active ingredient in FrontLine Plus is Methoprene which is a long existing and time proven IGR (insect growth regulator) it’s distributed exactly like Fipronil but only acts on flea and tick eggs and Larvae – this is important because it kills these vermin at the start of a new life cycle. What is more, the diseases that ticks carry now are infinitely more serious than the dreaded Lime disease – which for decades was the only concern.Competitors to Frontline (and some Vets selling other products) claim that fleas and ticks have become resistant to Frontline – However these pests have become resistant to some degree to all pesticides and no independent research exists to confirm this claim. I can assure you I’ve researched this in the greatest depth.The bottom line is this – all of these products pose a risk.The wise choice is to minimize that risk in your effort to protect your best friend from the diseases these vermin carry. Again, these diseases can be infinitely more lethal than the ingredients of the protection. To that end your safest and most effective choice is Frontline or Frontline Plus.In the event your pet has a bad reaction to Frontline products these are the symptoms you would see:* Restlessness* Itching* Vomiting* Difficulty Breathing* LethargyShould these symptoms occur, of course take your pet to your Veterinarian or emergency clinic immediately. It should be a comfort to know that unlike the toxic ingredients in most other flea and tick control products severe reactions to both Fipronil and Methoprene are rare.

This is the first time I’ve used PetArmor Plus. I usually use Fronline Plus for dogs. This is cheaper, and I have many pets. So, I thought I’d try it. I also used Frontline Plus for dogs, on my cats. I never had a problem. It’s always worked well on both species with no side effects (both Frontline Plus for dogs and Frontline Plus for cats have the same ingredients…some flea meds for dogs cannot be used on cats, and vice versa, because of certain ingredients being dangerous for one or the other). This product is supposed to have the same ingredients as Frontline Plus for dogs. But, I can’t find any feedback yet on people using it on their cats, like they do with the Fronline Plus for dogs. So, I might wait a bit before trying it on my cats, too. It’s cheaper to buy this way and use on dogs and cats instead of buying separately for each species. I found out this little trick from several animal rescue sites that buy packages for large dogs and divide doses depending on weight. You have to know the correct dosage to give and use a capped vial and a syringe (without needle). So, don’t just start doing it without having correct info. As for my dogs, it has been about 2 1/2 weeks on PetArmor Plus, and it seems to be working still. It did take a few days to kill off all their fleas. But, I’d ran out of flea meds, and my pets had fleas when I put this product on them. They usually do not miss monthly doses. So, they haven’t been without it in the past, and probably didn’t have fleas at the time of each monthly treatment. A few fleas got in my house while they were not treated. Pets are doing ok now, and I haven’t seen any fleas. But, it is early November in NC. It’s been cold, but not really cold. It still gets up to upper 50’s often, and low 60’s on occasion, and gets down to upper 40’s. It’s only got into 30’s a few times. Not as many fleas are hanging around outside. But, fleas have not been killed out by freezing temps yet this season. Overall, I think it seems to be working pretty well. I’m giving 4 ⭐️ since it seemed to take a few days to get rid of fleas. Frontline Plus works quicker. I will continue to use this because of cost-effectiveness if it holds up. I hope to find feedback on giving it to cats soon, too. 😉Update: it is end of February 2019, we are getting many days of 60 degree weather again. So, we’ve been seeing some fleas here and there, here in NC. This product lasts about 3 weeks, give or take…not quite a whole month. Indoor environment is always warm. Obviously, fleas like warm environments. So, we’ve had to continue giving this because of somewhat mild winter. I didn’t have to give this in January. But, I began again beginning of Feb. I also decided to try this on my cats since Frontline Plus for dogs also works on cats. Both my cats seem to do fine (and have received 2 doses of this so far), like they did with the Frontline Plus for dogs. So, I am able to give this to them, too, without having to buy a separate kind for cats. Again, know your dosing if you decide to do this. I don’t like that this product is quite a bit more oily in the fur, and takes longer to dry than Frontline Plus. The oilyness seems to go away within 24+ hours…not as quickly as Frontline, but I can deal with it. I have 2 chihuahuas that will groom each other, and try to clean it off. I have to keep them separated the day I put this on them (as I did with any other flea med). If they lick it off and ingest it, it will make them sick. So, make sure to keep any pets, that like to groom each other, separated the first day of application. This is why it is supposed to be placed on back of neck, so your pet cannot reach it and lick it off. It will make them sick, as will other flea/tick meds. I have learned these tricks from animal rescue sites. I am not a vet. I’m just sharing how it’s worked for me and my pets.Update: end of Sept. 2019-this stuff has consistently gotten worse with every month. I see less and less effectiveness every month since I started using it. It has continually gotten worse with each month that has passed. June and July was a little bad. Ikeptfibding fleas here and there. But, August and Sept have been the worst after application. It hasn’t helped the cat outside at all. (He was a stray that I give this to for relief. It doesn’t help him. He still has a lot of fleas all the time. It seems to help for a few days to a week at most. Even then, I see him scratching often. My inside dogs are still getting fleas. It did seem to get rid of fleas within a few days after application. But, each month, I would notice more fleas getting on them, and they’d bring them in the house and they would get on my cat, who does not go outside at all. In August, this stuff only worked less than 2 weeks on my pets who live indoors and only go out to potty in our fenced in yard or take walks. When I gave it in August, I noticed it never did completely kill the fleas. I keep finding fleas on each of them. I have to comb them with a flea comb every few days to make sure they don’t get bad. Most of my 4 dogs would usually have 1 or 2 fleas when I’d comb them. But, my dog with long fur had 10-12 last time I combed him, which is a lot. That is not good enough for me. When your pets keep bringing in fleas, they get in your home. Before you know it, they start feeding on us, then get in the carpet, start laying eggs, and hatching more fleas if you’re not careful. I added a pic of my feet that got bit up by fleas a couple weeks ago, because the pets just keep having more and more on them. I haven’t went anywhere or been outside for any period longer than 5 minutes. This happened one night. I noticed itsitting here on the couch. I like to sit here undera blanket. My 2 chihuahuas always get under the covers and lay at my feet. A flea must have jumped off one of them, and decided I was it’s next meal. I looked up flea bites online, which look like the bites on my feet. It’s effectiveness of this stuff had just went downhill all summer. At the height of flea season, which is August and Sept, you don’t want to be using flea prevention that doesn’t work. I gave it 10 months…most people don’t do that. I won’t purchase this again. I’ll be going back to Frontline Plus.

The problem with the reviews that i see is people dont understand how Fipronil works. As a retired 25+yr vet tech who was part of the control group when they invented these products i can say there seems to be a HUGE misunderstanding on how this product works.This product will not give you the quick kill like Advantage does when a flea comes in contact with it. If your pet has horrible flea allergies (like some of the photos ive seen people post here) or is infested then use Advantage (or the generic for it).NOTE: Fipronil will cause an INCREASE in flea activity until they run out of energy and die. It can cause fleas to bite during this excitement period. This does not mean there are more fleas or the product isnt working, its quite the opposite.Why do i use this instead of Advantage ?Several reasons: 1) It is held in the sebaceous glands and re-applies itself after a bath, swimming or rain.2) it lasts up to 3 months, a little less if you bathe the pet. 3) the s-methaprene an environmental egg desiccating product and translocates to all corners of the room after a few hours, turning your pet into a walking flea egg/larva killer.Tips: Bathe your pet first and let them thoroughly dry prior to application. Wash all bedding in hot soapy water.If it seems like youre seeing more fleas then the product is working. IF you want a fast kill, use advantage or the generic form. If you want a longer term solution that cuts out 3 of the 4 stages of a fleas life cycle, use Fipronil.

We’ve got 3 large dogs and a flea problem. Have used products in the past being “Pet-Armor” over the past 2 years, however this year (summer) it stopped working and our Mountain Cur pup was miserable, being eaten alive. Figured the fleas and eggs had adapted to the chemicals in the Pet-Armor so I elected to get a product with a different working ingredient and when with this. It’s worked very well on all 3 so far. ITS BEST to use a genetic treatment on the fleas in addition to treating your pets. I’ve used the mixable formula that makes a solution for spray, but didn’t get to it this summer. That product can be found on Amazon also, and IT WORKS by disrupting the life cycle be rendering adult fleas sterile, and produce not-hatching eggs. There is never an easy solution to fleas once inside one’s home.The Cons of This Product:1) It’s quite runny and can spill from its applying capsule if not careful, wear latex gloves.2) It has an odd smell, nothing that is intolerable.3) The pet CANNOT get wet for 24 hours after application.The Pros of This Product:1) It works for the time as stated on the box2) Not expensive when considering the need of the pet, and one’s own sanity.BTW: Our dogs are over 50 pounds in weight. We have a Mountain Cur, a Boxer and a Golden Retriever, all handled it very well. Follow the dosage guidelines and if unsure, use a smaller dosage as a trial.

The product was OK .. because I used this before. For several months, despite flea season, my dogs were free flea.However, I want to comment on the way I received the box. The box was opened – ripped when I pulled it off the package. Seal was broken

Worked just fine on my two small dogs. I bathed them first, dried them completely then applied the product. Very important to note that you do also have to clean the areas they frequent. I washed all of their bedding in hot water, swept and mopped with borax, sprayed the floors, boarding, doors, etc with pesticide and removed and washed my curtains also. Don’t expect a flea treatment to work if you aren’t making an effort to remove them not just from your pets but also your home!

This is the exact same product as the name brand and works just as well. Some say it doesn’t work for their dogs, but I have 2 Pomeranians and it works perfectly fine on them. I don’t use it year-round though. I only use it about March thru September or October. Once it gets wetter and colder outside, the fleas seem to go away until the sun starts coming out again.

I’ve used the name brand for years and thought I’d give this a try as the price is great and reviews were great. I’m very pleased. My dogs don’t have any reaction when I apply it and no bugs. It’s a win win!

This works well. Dog was jumping out of his skin for the first hour, as fleas were working to get off him. He calmed down, afterwards.

I have a small dachshund who is smooth haired, so he doesn’t really get much fleas – but I use this product just to be safe and I haven’t seen a single flea on him in over a year now.

We have used this for years and it protects our pups. Solid product that we would recommend for your pets.

I have used these for over a year and my dog does not have fleas, ticks nor to mosquitos bite her. It is easy to put on and dries quickly. There can be a slight oder but after a very few seconds it is gone. This all I use and it is much more cost effective than what is at my vet’s office and it does a great job.
