  1. I’ve had RO systems for the better part of 20+ years. Our household goes through a lot of fresh water daily, so having an RO system has paid for itself many times over. Even if you don’t go through a ton of water for drinking, cooking, iced tea, etc…the convenience of not having to buy unlimited amounts of bottled water and/or filling water jugs at your local water store is definitely an added bonus. I’ve had 3, 4 & 5 stage RO units throughout the years and they’ve all produced great tasting water. My past 3 or 4 RO units (which are usually purchased when we move houses) have been Watts Premier models. They specialize is very fast & easy filter changes and they are definitely easy filter changes. However, you pay a little larger price for that convenience. Their 4-stage RO units run about $200 and the yearly filter changes run about $60. RO units also have 2 types of faucets: 1) faucets with an air-gap and 2) faucets without an air-gap. By definition: “Air gap faucets were designed to protect the RO system. In the event of clogging, a small amount of air, rather than dirty water, would go back into the RO system”. The air gap will always make some noise when the tank is filling as air and water pass through the drain line and sound escapes from the little air gap hole. The Watts Premier RO systems have an air gap. If your system has an air gap, you cannot replace the RO faucet with a non-air gap faucet…you need to replace the faucets (if necessary) with the same kind. During my most recent search for an RO unit to install in a new home purchase, I came across this Express Water RO unit at an amazing price (which included a year of filter changes). I was a bit skeptical given the price, but the amount of solid reviews made it an appealing option. I made the purchase and had friend help with the install since I am a large framed man that does not easily fit under the sink area. After a month of use, I can say I am very happy with the taste, performance & overall experience with the RO. With that said, I found myself missing the benefits of the permeate pump that I had installed in my last house. If you just care about the RO review, then I am very pleased and give it 5 stars. If you want to know what a permeate pump is and WHY you should get one, read on.This is the permeate pump available on Amazon that I purchased and am reviewing below:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005VPPRX4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Let me start by saying I will NEVER have another RO system without a permeate pump again. Permeate pumps use the wastewater that is expelled during the RO process to greatly increase water pressure at the RO faucet, minimize wastewater and fill the tank in less time. They can be installed on nearly all standard RO systems aftermarket so there’s no need to buy a bundled RO system that includes the permeate pump (since most of those cost a lot more than buying the units separately).I was introduced to permeate pumps about 4 years ago. I purchased a Watts Premier RO system from Costco (when they still sold Watts Premier) and had it installed by a plumber (since I needed a hole drilled in my granite countertop). I consider myself pretty handy and although plumbing in general isn’t rocket science, I’m a large framed man that hates trying to squeeze under sinks to do pretty much anything plumbing related. After the RO was installed, I was getting smaller (and broken) pieces of ice at my refrigerator since my RO was feeding my ice maker through a longer 1/4” line from the kitchen island to the refrigerator. This a drawback of a lot of RO systems which feed ice makers that aren’t in very close proximity. After researching I came across a permeate pump (sold through Watts Premiere) and made the purchase. The included instructions were specific for the RO unit I had and it was an easy install since the RO was already up and running. Immediately, you will notice several things with the permeate pump. 1) Permeate pumps make some noise. They generally click or “thump” every few seconds. This happens because the wastewater from the RO builds up pressure inside the pump that is then used to push fresh (permeate) water into the storage tank. When the pressure builds and releases, you get clicking or thumping until your tank is full. 2) Your RO faucet pressure increases dramatically. As a result of the increased permeate water being forced into the storage tank, the tank pressure within the tank bladder increases and you end up with water pressure comparable to your regular faucet. The line pressure at the refrigerator & ice maker (assuming you have them all hooked together) is also the beneficiary of the increased pressure and you get full sized ice cubes again. So, why wouldn’t everybody want one of these? Well, I think most people have never heard of them. If you have, then the results speak for themselves. HOWEVER, these do make noise…especially if your RO faucet has an air gap (that little hole in the back of the faucet that inevitably leaks water out of it when the drain line gets blocked with something). With an air gap, permeate pumps get VERY NOISY. The pump action not only clicks (or thumps) under the sink, but the air gap sound created from the pump gets much louder as well. The air gap noise on my Watts Premier Pure Plus unit was so loud I actually debated on getting another permeate pump in our new house. I ended up buying a highly reviewed non-air gap RO system from Amazon and had it installed for a month in my new house. As usual, the water taste and purity was perfect and I am pleased that my ice cubes were normal sized (since the builder installed a larger RO line from my island to the fridge). I just realized how much I was missing the RO tank pressure (which equates to faster filling of water jugs & cooking pots). I went back to Amazon and found this permeate pump which said it was the newer model that makes less noise. The unit arrived in about a week (no 2-day prime shipping available for it). I watched a YouTube video for installing it on a basic 5-stage RO and had it all hooked up in about 20 mins. I’m once again in RO bliss. The water pressure in the faucet just makes me smile…no more waiting a minute to fill a normal glass with water (OK it’s not literally a minute but felt that way to me). The noise is considerably less from the pump itself. I ended up buying some u-shaped plastic clamps (Amazon search: TmallTech Big Simple Clip Clamp 2.5″ Bracket Reverse Osmosis RO Membrane Housing (Pack of 3)) that hold the permeate pump to one of the RO filters so the pump is not directly mounted to the cabinet wall (like it was at my previous house). Also, since I don’t have an air gap on this RO faucet, I have no additional noise from the faucet. If my house is silent, you still hear the pump cycling the water, but it’s minimal and it’s only until the tank is full. After that, it doesn’t cycle back on until water has been used from the tank. All in all, I missed the permeate pump benefits and will never have another RO system without one. I will also make sure I don’t get an RO with an air-gap faucet either.Hopefully this review helps people.

  2. My house has lead pipes and a very high level of chlorine from the water treatment plant in the water. The lead is fine (so far) but the chlorine makes it taste like I’m drinking from a swimming pool. I got this to alleviate the chlorine issue and to avoid any future problems that may arise from an old house with lead pipes, and it did it perfectly. Great filter, refill filter cartridges can be found in almost any department/grocery store, decent price, and the water actually tastes good and correct right out of the filter. This does what it says: reduces several dangerous chemicals and toxins in your water and then puts some basic minerals back in to improve the taste instead of just giving you absolutely pure water (which has zero flavor and many people don’t like it). It is also very easy to install (usually no tools required). The only down-side here is that it is quite bulky and it is not designed to fit faucets where the nozzle is at an angle; it will work at up to 45 degree slope on your faucet pipe but it will be sitting oddly and it may splash water over the edge of your sink onto the floor. It really is designed for faucets where the pipe is 0 degrees (vertical) for the last two or three inches at least. Here are some things to be aware of before you buy:1. Filters are designed to last up to 3 months or 100 gallons, whichever comes first. It has an indicator light that tells you when it is time to change the filter. You “can” use it for about 4 months if you don’t use a whole lot of filtered water, but eventually you will need to change the filter or the contaminants will get through it and into your drinking glass. Filters are cheap and easy to find so change them when the light turns red.2. It has a switch so you can either get unfiltered water in a thick stream bypassing the filter, or filtered water in a thin but strong stream which will use up “time” on your indicator light. So for instance you can turn the filter on for drinking water, brushing your teeth, etc. and then turn it off for things like washing dishes or washing your hands.3. It is very bulky, designed for faucets that point STRAIGHT DOWN for at least a few inches before the end of the faucet. You also will need almost a foot of open space to one side or in front of the faucet because the filter unit clips onto the bottom of the faucet nozzle but then the main filter stands parallel to the faucet. It is almost a foot tall, too, but it only adds about two inches to the end of the faucet – the rest of the height goes upward beside the faucet. Look at the main pics on the item’s description and you should see how it attaches. Now imagine if your sink nozzle pointed at an angle instead of downward… like my bathroom sink does… not the best fit for that type of faucet.4. Although it will lock onto the faucet to gravity won’t pull it down, there is no lateral lock so it will be able to spin freely around the faucet, you can move it side to side if it is in the way. Because of this though, it is not meant to be installed on faucets that point at any sideways angle – only those that point straight down or close to it.5. Installation is simple, it comes with four sets of screw-in nozzles that replaces the aerator at the end of your faucet, then the filter unit just clips onto the new nozzle. The hardest part is actually unscrewing your old aerator, sometimes they are on too tight so you may need a wrench to loosen it but it should all be just finger-tight.6. Whenever installing a new filter, run the water with the new filter in for 5-10 minutes before you use it. This clears out any charcoal particles small enough to get through the filter while also allowing the filter matrix to become saturated with water so that it actually works the way it is supposed to.7. If you haven’t used the water for about an hour (up to about 36 hours) let it run for about 10 seconds before you use the water for drinking or whatever, just to clear any standing junk out. If it has been longer than a day and a half, run it for 5 minutes again to re-wet the filter because it may have dried out.8. Gravity is a real thing, so after you shut off the water the filter might still drip for a few seconds. This usually isn’t a “problem” but something to be aware of – that drip is just gravity not a leaky seal, it should stop after a few seconds.

My review regarding filters is really for the whole unit. No plastic taste to the filtered water. Water tastes fresh without a chlorine smell. Would recommend it. I did not give it 5 stars because nothing is perfect or can beat fresh spring water. I really cannot say anything negative about this system.

  4. Where can I buy the replacement filters for the white one love this water filter but I need a new cartridge

  5. Each filter is lasting quite a long time and we use them a lot as we have well water with too many minerals in our water.

  6. Pros:1) It tastes so much better than my old 6 cup Brita! I think it’s because it’s twice aerated (internally and at the glass) and because the filter isn’t immersed in the water for hours each day.2) I refill once every 2 days vs 7 times in two days.3) Even the pets enjoy Brita water and drink more water with the larger dispenser. (I started using Brita water for them when my dog had kidney disease – it made a big difference.)4) It slides forward, so you don’t wind up playing Refrigerator Jenga every time you want some water.5) It takes up about 1.5 times the same space as the 6 cup. (Taller, no handle). I have enough room behind it for a pickle jar/mayo/soda cans.6) I prefer the aerated taste over bottled water.Cons:1) It’s a little heavy when you fill the top compartment twice. (So I bought a pitcher for refills.) (A clean empty 2 liter soda bottle would work.)2) The spigot seems very close to the refrigerator floor (so I put a clean wood shim under it on the left edge). A 1/4″ cutting board would also work.3) You never completely empty it unless you remove it from the fridge. Every 3-4 days I prefer to empty it out into the sink. Since it’s almost empty anyway, it’s very lightweight.4) It’s bulkier (but lightweight). You trade fiddling with that little tab on the 6 cup (I kept a flat blade screwdriver in the kitchen so I could take it apart and wash it) for being careful not to knock the spigot on the 27 cup. Taking the 27 cup apart (to clean it) is so easy. To clean the spigot internally pour some white vinegar into 1 cup water and drain, followed by 2 cups of water.Overall I’m very pleased with my purchase and wish I’d bought it earlier. My dogs and cat love it too!

  7. I bought a whole house, cold vapor humidifier. It works great but found I had a problem with white dust from the minerals left behind even though our water is not very hard. I knew to eliminate the minerals it would take an RO filter so I looked around and found this system. Seemed reasonable priced. It was a pretty easy install as the instructions are really easy to follow. I bought a TDS meter, pressure gauge and de-ionizing filter cartridge to put on the output and bring the TDS level down to zero.It works great and brings my water down from 45-50ppm to zero ppm TDS. My water pressure is 60 psi and the RO membrane works fine at that pressure. But the humidifier can use about 4-5 gallons a day (it auto fills so don’t know the exact quantity) so to reduce the waste water produced I bought a booster pump. It raises the pressure to 90 psi and so it fills the tank quicker and reduces the waste water. That was pretty easy to retro fit to the system. It’s been about 10 months since I got it so I’ll be doing the first pre-filter/post filter changes soon. The RO membrane seems to be doing fine but my booster pump automatically flushes it before every use so that helps. If you don’t have a pump that can do that you should buy and install a manual by-pass valve. This allows you to flush the junk off the RO membrane once in a while and prolongs it’s life. But the replacements RO membranes are only $20.Besides the humidifier I also use it to fill my dogs automatic water bowl and my cats drinking fountain. All three benefit from the super clean water and lack of bacteria. The animals stuff never feels slimy when I clean it and I can let the humidifier go for a couple months and still have no signs of pink slime anywhere on in it when I do the cleaning. And of course the white dust problem from the humidifier has been eliminated.Definitely recommend it. But if you are using it for drinking water you might want an alkali filter on the output as some people find the taste of RO water to be flat. That filter will add a little minerals back in like they do with bottled water for taste. Which is pretty much this same process on an industrial scale. Express Water sells this same kit with that post alkali filter included.

  8. I’ve designed, built, and serviced many filtration systems. I wanted a counter-top RO instead of an undercounter system. Rolled the dice on this model. I’ve had it for several months and it works perfectly, as designed. A few tips. The screw-on filter cartridges may loosen in shipping. Re-seat them before the first run. I had a leaking cartridge after my first pot of water. Re-seated the dripping cartridge (see photo) and all is well. It is addressed in the manual. No return needed!! I like the twist-off cartridges. No wresting with strap wrenches like the typical RO system filter changes. Now for the Pro Gold info. The TDS display. TDS meters work based on electrical conductivity of the water. The filter has a conductivity probe on the raw water and post filtration water sides. The electrical conductivity (EC) is dependant on dissolved salts and minerals like calcium, bicarbonate, potassium, sodium, and sulfate primarily. EC is converted to TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) by a math formula and displayed on the filter. TDS is not a measure of pollutants. Pollutants like nitrate, lead and copper play such a minor role in conductivity that it isn’t detected. Organic chemicals like pesticides don’t conduct current and are not detected. So what is the TDS display for? It shows that the RO membrane is working. None of the other filter cartridges play a role in the TDS level. The RO membrane “rejects” the minerals, metals, nitrate, phospates, etc, flushing them to waste ( Back into the water tank). The filtered water has nearly all the minerals and salts removed, which is why the final TDS level is lower. TDS (EC really) is an easy way to monitor the RO cartridge. You want the the filtered water to have a TDS level at least 80% lower than the unfiltered water. If not, change the RO. The individual filter meters, displayed on the unit, are simple count-down timers. The unit does not measure the effectiveness of each filter cartridge. It is a pre-programmed reminder. Same as a fridge filter alert. So, don’t mistake the TDS level as a pollutant or toxin indicator. That expensive mineral water you drink has a high TDS due to the healthy minerals. So a high TDS is good in this case. But with RO water, low TDS is what you want as it indicates the minerals are being removed, which means metals and other potentially harmful substances are being removed. Hope this helps.

  9. Amazing product so far. I love the digital filter replacement day countdown. The little triangular pour spout sticks on ours when you go to pour so water goes everywhere. We just have to pop it open with a finger before pouring which isn’t the end of the world. What really sucks is that the lid doesn’t stay on when we pour so we’re opening the spout and holding the lid on simultaneously with one hand while pouring with the other. A bit inconvenient but we can make it work.

  10. I’m on my second filter of the pack. The first one seemed to work as well as the name brand one. It filtered slow like the other do. After several weeks of use, it became very slow so I changed it out. This second filter filters as fast as the water can pour into the tank which I feel isn’t filtering at all. My wife drinks the filtered water all the time and she says it tastes the same. Our city water has a chlorine smell and I don’t smell it after it runs through so it must be doing something. I read the other reviews and chose to buy anyway. I think all in all they are a with while buy.

  11. I live in an apartment that doesn’t allow me to install a filter system so I have basically been using brita pitchers for a while. I’ve had the smaller one and I can’t tolerate the taste of room temp water, I had to pour it over into another pitcher to put in the fridge while the small one Id leave on the kitchen counter for easy access to filtered water when cooking. Such a headache! I can’t believe I didn’t purchase this before! Would’ve definitely saved me a lot of headache. It’s big so it fits a lot of water but not so big that it’s awkward to fit in the fridge. It doesn’t leak, super comfy to pour water from- the spout gives easy access to water and saves me an extra step! I also like the sticker that it comes with because it reminds you when it’s time to change the filter. Basically all around love this product!

  12. Hello my filter leaks around where you put the filter in I tried taking it out and seeing if there was a booger on it everything seems to be all right but it still drips out of it and the chrome is on top of plastic instead of on top of the metal which I thought was how it was going to be because the previous one I got is that way metal and doesn’t leak pretty disappointing have a good day Mike

  13. Best I’ve found so far next to Brita. They work great and don’t leave a film of charcoal on the bottom of the 2 gallon tank when it’s time to clean and change filters. NICE!

  14. Although these work well they fit tighter than ones I purchased elsewhere. Not sure why but they are harder to put in correctly and harder to remove. For me it’s still worth it for the price.

  15. I’ve been using generic brand filter replacements for years now to save money. These were on sale so I bought them and I’ll never buy knock-offs again. These fit snuggly and the water flows quickly through the charcoal filter. The other filters dripped so slowly like there was a clog in them every time and they didn’t always fit snuggly letting unfiltered water dribble in.

  16. For whole house water filter.

  17. I switched from my previous filters because they drained so slowly. These drain really well. Water tastes great!

  18. I live in phoenix arizona, the water is HARD here. Strong calcium deposits, sewage and chlorine smell from the tap water has gotten worse in recent years. I live in an apartment, my brita seemed to do the bare minimum, water bottles are wasteful and water jug dispensers are too big for my space. city water checking in at anywhere between 700-1000tds/ppm.This device is about the size of an automatic espresso maker. It’s very compact for what it is. 4 filters is amazing and the taste is literally night and day difference. My tap water filtered tastes like fiji bottled water lol, no joke. This is a good machine. Takes a few minutes to fill the water pot. If you fill the tank up beyond the max line, the machine seems to overfill the water pot as well, so be warned there. Overall, awesome machine, quiet and I can taste the difference. worth the money.Filter changing is as easy as turning the filters to the right or let to remove or install, this thing couldn’t be more user friendly without someone doing it for you.

  19. The water tastes great!I have several pitcher filters with ZeroWater being the one I preferred the most. Then I tried Epic and that became my new favorite. Claims to have a much longer lasting filter but we’ll see. The only downside is the top. A bit too small for the pitcher. As you pour the top wants to fall off so just keeping a finger on it makes that a non-issue. No way of knowing if the claims of how well the filter does its job filtering out all kinds of nonsense in our drinking water but it does taste great. One other downside if you can even call it that is that it is a slow drip but anyone in a hurry for filtered water should look at a different method. I’m happy with it.

  20. It takes a bit longer to fill than a Brita however it’s so much cheaper. Doesn’t take that long
